Title: Amos

Language: English

Release date: 08-03-11

Publisher: Logos Bible Study

Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 43 votes

Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Bibles

Publisher's Summary:

Amos is "the country preacher who came to town" - not a professional prophet, but a tender of sycamore fig trees from the little town of Tekoa, just south of Bethlehem. God sends Amos to the northern kingdom of Israel to prophecy against it. Confronting the king and his priests, Amos tells the leaders precisely what will happen if they do not return to God: the northern kingdom of Israel will be destroyed by the Assyrians, and the high priests wife will become a prostitute in the city!

Join Logos Bibles Studys Dr. Bill Creasy as he highlights the social, political, and historical milieu of the era in which this most unlikely of prophets speaks.

Editorial Reviews:

Dr. Bill Creasy of Logos Bible Study uses a literary, historical approach to examine and enliven the bible for modern listeners. Dr. Creasy draws on his studies, travels, and personal anecdotes to depict a vivid picture of the works of scripture. Somewhere between a sermon and a college lecture, he delivers these audiobooks with authority but a pleasantly friendly voice and a touch of fun, using contemporary references.

In this lesson Dr. Creasy talks about Amos who he says was not a "highly trained prophet", a "weeping prophet", or a "weird prophet", but a "country preacher who came to town". His prophecies are discussed in the context of a kingdom divided, following King Davids death and hundreds of years of civil war.

The Book of Micah is a complex mixture of judgment and hope. God is a god of justice, as well as a god of love, and genuine peace cannot come until justice prevails on earth. Micahs message of judgment culminates in the redemption of Israel and of all humanity, but a fearful judgment must come first. Join Logos Bible Studys Dr. Bill Creasy as he explains how judgment and hope are intimately intertwined in the plan of salvation.

Editorial Reviews:

In this live lecture from Logos Bible Study, Dr. Bill Creasey reads and interprets the Book of Micah from the Old Testament. Creasey uses his academic expertise as a former professor of English literature in helping students decipher the book's content. Prophet Micah, a contemporary of Isaiah, responds in dialogue throughout seven chapters to the destructive promises of God.

Few scholars approach the Bible with Creasey's exceptional brand of warmth, devotion, and intellect. He sounds like a friendly pastor who knows his Bible backwards and forwards, and - more than that - knows how to communicate ancient lessons to a modern audience.

Wonderful Lecture!

This is another great lecture from Dr. Bill Creasy. He is always incredibly insightful and engaging. He often supplements the material with personal stories which are relevant and interesting. He has taken several trips to Israel and the Middle East where he visits the locations depicted in the Bible and he shares those first hand accounts which enables him to take you back to that point in time that the scripture is talking about.

Title: Nahum

Author: Dr. Bill Creasy

Format: Original Recording

Length: 17 mins

Language: English

Release date: 08-01-11

Publisher: Logos Bible Study

Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 41 votes

Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Bibles

Publisher's Summary:

Jonah knew that if he delivered Gods message to the Ninevites they would repent and God would save them; but he also knew that even if the Ninevites repented, they would backslide into their old ways. And thats exactly what happens. The prophet Nahum makes clear what will happen to the capital of the Assyrian empire if they turn away from God. And indeed his prophecies come to pass: Nineveh is totally destroyed in 612 B.C. by a coalition of Babylonians and Medes, being buried under 40 feet of sand in the Iraqi desert until Sir Austen Henry Laylard discovers its remains in 1847. Join Logos Bible Studys Dr. Bill Creasy as he examines Nahums prophetic message to Nineveh.

Editorial Reviews:

In order to understand the Book of Nahum from the Old Testament, it is necessary to return to the story of Jonah, which Dr. Bill Creasey summarizes early in this lecture. Using his particular brand of humor, colloquial language, and rigorous scholarship, Creasey brings this Hebrew story into one's living room. As a listener follows along with his or her own Bible, Creasey guides him or her through time and the Holy Land. The Book of Nahum addresses the end of the Assyrian Empire and the fall of its capital city Nineveh. Creasey gives the event a chronology and a context in this comprehensive exploration of one of the 12 Minor Prophets.
