The guide to being a modern Ruth
This is a book that will inspire many ladies in different stages of life. It explains that it's perfectly ok to be a single woman that loves God and is dependent on God to make her happy not a man. I would encourage all ladies to read single or not!
Good guidance for girls and single wome
Some of the situations seem a bit harsh or overdramatic but with the authors real world experience counseling and from letters sent to her I'm sure there is a need for drastic measures. Coming from a worldly dating perspective it is a refreshing look at how dating should be thought about and taking a serious look at the way the mainstream culture views dating and relationships. Would recommend to young girls before dating at least as some ideas to consider.

    Publisher's Summary:
We all tend to hold onto things that have happened in the past. It can feel like we are pulling a cart behind us with all are troubles and worries; it slows us down, and we can become tired, depressed, even jealous, as life seems so easy for others.
All we need to do is let go of the cart, and we will feel lighter and free, but often we have held onto it so long that it has become part of us. Many of the people we know are also carrying carts, so it can seem normal. We talk about how heavy our cart is with anyone that will listen; at no point do we realize that we can set down that heavy cart that is keeping us from God's love.
We need to learn to let go. In this book, I will share with you stories of people who struggled with letting go and what happened when they did.
God is only in the present moment; he is not in the past or future. The moment that we let go of the past God will turn the page to the next chapter of our life, which will be much better than the last.
It will take courage and faith, but I invite you to take this journey with me. By the end of the book, God will shine a light into your life that will illuminate you to....
    ...the power of letting go.

When you're in distress all hell break loose in your thinking and feeling. Even prayers don't seem to help. When you're drowning it takes only a simple thing like a wood to save you and make you afloat to survive....... Until help comes. Until you come back to your senses that all is well and this is not the end or the doom lurking in your mind. This audio is that simple wood for me. I don't need a complicated ship to get by. I just need. A wood to come back to my senses that all is well inspite of. Thanks to the author
Great idea, but fell short of my expectations
This books explains that you need to 'let things go' that are out of your control. Don't look back, look forward. Don't question why, just accept and let it go. However, it doesn't say HOW to let it go. He says 'don't get depressed,' 'accept things you cannot control.' What about the people who can't seem to let it go? People who have depression and anxiety (my anxiety actually got WORSE while listening to this book, since it was not explaining HOW to let things go!). It's not a real waste of time, since it's not very long, but I do think I could have used the time to listen to another book that explains the HOW part.
    great reminder!
I listen to this book everyday to remind something better is coming! It is a great reminder that if I let go.of the past, God can lead me into my future with him.
    Short but powerful
A little more than 6 months ago, I was devastated with a very painful breakup with the man with whom I was planning to spend the rest of my life. I drew close to God and have experienced spiritual growth, but I still had times that I felt intense pain and most recently, struggled with anger. At some point, I realized that being angry was taking back what I thought I had given to God. I had been working a lot of over time and was worn out and feeling so discouraged so I opened my Kindle and looked through my library for something encouraging. I started listening to the message of this book and it really affected my life.

    Title: Jesus Before the Gospels
Subtitle: How the Earliest Christians Remembered, Changed, and Invented Their Stories of the Savior
    Author: Bart D. Ehrman
    Narrator: Joe Barrett
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 10 hrs and 4 mins

    Release date: 03-01-16
    Publisher: HarperAudio
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 233 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
The best-selling author of Misquoting Jesus, one of the most renowned and controversial Bible scholars in the world today, examines oral tradition and its role in shaping the stories about Jesus we encounter in the New Testament - and ultimately in our understanding of Christianity.
Throughout much of human history, our most important stories were passed down orally - including the stories about Jesus before they became written down in the Gospels. In this fascinating and deeply researched work, leading Bible scholar Bart D. Erhman investigates the role oral history has played in the New Testament - how the telling of these stories not only spread Jesus' message but helped shape it.
A master explainer of Christian history, texts, and traditions, Ehrman draws on a range of disciplines, including psychology and anthropology, to examine the role of memory in the creation of the Gospels. Explaining how oral tradition evolves based on the latest scientific research, he demonstrates how the act of telling and retelling impacts the story, the storyteller, and the listener - crucial insights that challenge our typical historical understanding of the silent period between when Jesus lived and died and when his stories began to be written down.
As he did in his previous books on religious scholarship, debates on New Testament authorship, and the existence of Jesus of Nazareth, Ehrman combines his deep knowledge and meticulous scholarship in a compelling and eye-opening narrative that will change the way we read and think about these sacred texts.
    Members Reviews:
    Insightful, but with limited depth
Prof. Bart D. Ehrman is a well-known New Testament Scholar whose fame started to spread with his book "Misquoting Jesus" in which he introduced Everyman to the Science of Textual Criticism and its results. He also wrote an essay in the first edition of National Geographic's "The Gospel of Judas" concerning Gnosticism. I have read of listened to most of his books, academic and popular (e.g. Jesus, Apocalyptic Prophet of the New Millennium; Lost Christianities; Forgery; The Apocryphal Gospel (with Zaltko Plese) and How Jesus became a God, to name but a few) ... which might be the reason that I find this book to be much of the same old same old...
In this book he moves behind the gospel texts to the memories of Jesus that was carried by oral tradition, before the process was started to write it down more or less 40 years after Jesus' crucifixion. He first discusses memory using insights from psychology, anthropology and other academic disciplines. He maintains that the gospels contains true, false, selective, changed, communal and other memories. Starting with some late apocryphal gospel stories, he ends up discussing the canonical gospels. He actually gives quite an interesting overview of memory. Then he casts insights of critical New Testament Scholarship over the last 200 years into the memory mold. While he argues convincingly that memory are not that dependable, even in oral culture, I thought something didn't fit.
I think the book was not written for the right audience. Maybe he should have engaged more actively with the scholarly community before giving a popular account of memory.

    Release date: 02-23-16
    Publisher: A.R.N. Publications
Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 47 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
Orthodoxy by G.K. Chesterton is a book from the early 1900s, which explores the reasoning behind accepting Christianity as the logical and true religion. Chesterton begins with the statement of a problem which humanity faces every day. He claims that humans by their very nature have a double need: a desire for imagination and a desire for reason. This could also be seen as the desire for the logical and the desire for the illogical. Individuals seek a balance between the two extremes, and the fulfillment of this balance is what leads to internal peace and satisfaction.
Chesterton asserts that the only faith which can fulfill this difficult double need is Christianity. The principals of the faith allow for some interpretation of truth, but also are consistently clear about the differences between good and evil, and right and wrong. The book acts as a guide which explains how Christianity is the best choice for all human beings, not because it's outside of our world and an independent truth, but because it is the answer to our base needs and desires. Only when Christianity is seen as a way of life instead of a belief can the true power of the faith be realized.
    Members Reviews:
    Very deep expose'
I've been through this three times and I'm still unpacking it. Chesterton' thought is lucid, funny, and (as stated in the title) Deep. If you are agnostic and frustrated at not hearing a good argument for God (let alone Christianity), this book will be the fire hose you always wanted to drink from!
    Confusing
The book is good, but so confusing.... Definitely the reader doesn't help, I'll try to get a printed copy and read myself.

Wanted to hear voice of TD Jakes himself
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
If you want a stream of scriptures read by someone (NOT TD Jakes), it is the book for you. If you want the analysis of TD Jakes, this is not a good book.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Release Your Anointing?
did not finish much of it
How did the narrator detract from the book?
He seemed to just be reading. ....and fast.
Do you think Release Your Anointing needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
Yes, same thing but with TD Jakes reading and elaborating...analysis from him in his own voice.
    Any additional comments?
Get something read by TD Jakes himself
    transforming
I am going through this book over and over until I over stand my moment,as you see it you will see it!
    Revived to THRIVE
The story is great. The person reading it I had to ignore. I had to start over for the lack of expression to focus on the words and how it was being read.
    Good message. Poor narator.
I did not like the narator. The book has a good message however. The narator reads the text too fast and you cant seem to catch the point of the teaching unless you listen several times. The narator doesn't put any flavor to the reading.
    Anointed Book!
I loved all of the scripture references! Makes me wish I had the hardback version as well. It's every bit as good as his teaching sermons.
The audio, by that I mean the person reading it, sounded as if he were reading something he wasn't connected to, but it didn't stop me from getting the meaning out of the book.

    Publisher's Summary:
Since the days of the early church, Christians have struggled to understand the relationship between two seemingly contradictory concepts in the Bible: law and gospel. If, as the Apostle Paul says, the law cannot save, what can it do? Is it merely an ancient relic from Old Testament Israel to be discarded? Or is it still valuable for Christians today?
Helping modern Christians think through this complex issue, seasoned pastor and theologian Sinclair Ferguson carefully leads listeners to rediscover an 18th-century debate that sheds light on this present-day doctrinal conundrum: the marrow controversy. After sketching the history of the debate, Ferguson moves on to discuss the theology itself, acting as a wise guide for walking the path between legalism (overemphasis on the law) on the one side and antinomianism (wholesale rejection of the law) on the other.

Sinclair Ferguson explains this crucial issue with wisdom, insight, and gospel grace. This is an absolute must read for pastors especially.
    a must read
This book has been instrumental in not only grounding in my assurane of salvation but has educated me in the different Christian views on how one or if one can have assurance. The book also has enabled me to explain why I have assurance to others. I attend a non-denominational church and i am grateful for the grounding this book has given me since some churches stay away from long standing docrinal issue that can be such a blessing.
    Review of Audio and Hardback
Would you listen to The Whole Christ again? Why?
Would not buy this as an audible again. Very detailed book which makes it a better read than a listen. I first bought the hardback, which I have read and underlined extensively. Unfortunately, this book does not lend itself as well to listening. How do you underline what you're hearing?
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, this is a book to be slowly chewed over, not swallowed whole.
