A Humorous and Entertaining Book

If you could sum up Slightly Scandalous in three words, what would they be?

Funny, high-spirited, exciting!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Slightly Scandalous?

That's a tall order for a book chock-full of memorable moments. I'll start at the beginning when a man enters Freyja Bedwyn's room at an Inn on her journey to Bath wanting a place to hide. Encountering the same man in Bath she socks him in the nose for a supposed transgression.

Which character as performed by Rosalyn Landor was your favorite?

I liked both Freyja Bedwyn and Joshua Moore, Marquess of Hallmere, equally well. They played off each others personality for a humorous and enjoyable listen.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There were several moments in the book that evoked emotions; laughter, anger, etc.

Any additional comments?

The Bedwyn series have all been exceedingly entertaining but I think this book is my favorite.

Freyia Finally!

Finally Freyia's story! Love the third book in the series starring the oldest Bedwyn daughter. It started with a fake engagement that ended in marriage. Well worth the credit, a great listen.

My favorite out of the series.

This book was so lively. I enjoyed the characters so much especially firecracker free. I can't wait to see what's in store for Morgan.

Great story

This was a great story and it didn't have all the cussing that some of her books have. Proof that you can tell a great story without cussing every other breath. Greatly enjoyed it!!

absolutely beautiful

this book was so special to me. i lost track of how many times i teared up. i hope to have a relationship with my grandkids one day just like this.

I felt as if I was there with the characters

I love Carolyn Brown's books. They are so comforting. This book features four generations of well off women who have left West Virginia for the rigors of a farm in Oklahoma. I feel as if I am sitting at the table with the ladies in Hidden Secrets as they prepare foods and talk to one another. In this book each female character has a secret that is revealed to the other characters. The revealed secrets draw them closer. One reviewer commented that everything comes too easily to the characters, but I frankly want their lives to be good. I did not want to read about failure and struggling. I was drawn into this story and felt quite satisfied by the ending. Lovely story.

The narrator is very talented. I forgot she was there and only believed the characters were present. I knew who was talking and never thought about the narrator's accent. She just honestly and quietly performed the characters and made them come alive.

I have read and listened to many of Grace Burrowes romances. I especially appreciate her intelligent writing and her portrayal of family relationships is very comforting. But in many of her books, there comes a point where I become most frustrated with a drawn-out spell of stupidity on either the hero's or more usually the heroine's part.

YAY! The Trouble with Dukes omits the aforementioned "daft" period and was consequently a more satisfying tale. If you know the Wyndham clan, you'll appreciate their reappearances.

I appreciate James Langton's baritone and variety of voices for the numerous male characters. He's a comfort listen for me.

My Musings

Wow! I LOVED this book. Meggie and Hamish are perfect for each other. Loved spending time with some of my favorite characters. The narrator is outstanding and truly brought them to life. I couldn't stop listening to this fantastic romantic tale. Happy reading!

Cute and entertaining

The story started very cute and believable up until towards the end when the main villain was easily dispensed of. All that build up fizzled quickly in one quick scene. I just found the ending a bit goofy although I enjoyed listening to the story. James Langton's voice is made for narration however his performance here was OK. The heroine was given a Scott's accent when she and her siblings were supposedly raised in England except their mother whom was Scottish. Overall I give the narration and storyline a 3.

Murdered by Horrible Narration

Would you try another book from Julia Quinn and/or Lucy Rayner?

Julia Quinn, certainly. Lucy Rainer, no way.

What did you like best about this story?

Couldn't listen. I will dig out my print version.

What didnt you like about Lucy Rayners performance?

Da da da dah. Da da da dah. Add a completely unnatural pattern of intonation with some underlying shrieking, and you've got the fingernails on blackboard performance of Lucy Rayner. Was her producer even listening as she recorded this? The narrator has no ear for narrative. Maybe she can sing. Or mime.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Irritation that a book I had looked forward to hearing was destroyed by poor narration. Who hired this woman?

Dreadful narrator ruins the story

I love Julia Quinn's books, including this one, but I had to stop listening because the narrator was so awful. I'm sorry to say bad things about Ms. Raynor, but OMG, I just couldn't continue. I stopped after wincing through about seven chapters. What is so upsetting is that this same narrator has done all three Blydon books (Splendid, Dancing at Midnight, and Minx) all of which I bought before realizing how annoying her voice is. Julia - how could you have chosen her? It appears I wasted three credits.

I had a very hard time finishing this book mainly because of the narration. I was also disappointed in the dialog. I have enjoyed all of Julie Quins other books but this one is disappointing. I bought all 3 in the series but I don't think I can listen to the other 2 because of the narrator.

Fantastic!

Another super story by Suzan Tisdale. It will give you a wonderful feeling. I can't wait until the next book is ready. Brad Wills knows how to capture the sense of removal of your normal daily grind. Let him! The combination of them both will lift you up as nothing else can. Love them both!!

Favorite character was Rose. She had a backbone and will we would all wish we had.

Which character as performed by Brad Wills was your favorite?

I loved the way Will McLaren was portrayed, his mindset to do as his father needed him to do. I also really enjoyed Liona's voice. Brad made me feel the evil of madcap chief of Bowie clan. I also loved the old cronie voice of the healer. He does so many voices that are memorable. What can I say? He's superb!

AUDIOBOOK REVIEW:

I loved this emotional, multi-layered tale of a love which withstands Ians self-doubt, belief in his unworthiness, and his stubborn-headed decision to stay clear of Rose. Outside danger threatens to shred their new understanding and new beginning.

Rose knows she loves Ian, but also knows she cant give him children, for she is unable to carry beyond her 3rd month. How can a man love a woman enough to forego any hope of bairns? Rose is a feisty, spirited woman, passionate in nature and deeply in love with Ian. A woman no finer.

The first scene sets the tone of Ians love. Narrator Brad Wills uses a soft intimate and loving tone in the first dialogue between the two. A secret betrothal is made between the two and a month later Ian breaks the betrothal sending Rose into a spiraling depression edged with lots of anger.

Ians reasoning is simple. He cant offer Rose the kind of life she should haveno large keep or pretty clothes. He is but a warrior and thats all hes good at, his justification for his actions. Luckily, Rose is given solace by her best friend, Aggie, wife to Ians brother Frederick, who also has a strong will.

We are privy to some really cute scenes when Rose doesnt exactly tell the truth. These discussion are difficult for Ian and Rose, but, truthfully, they were fun to listen to. The narrator entertains us with his flexible impersonations for each character.

Sweet Romance, Perfect Year Round

Would you consider the audio edition of The Christmas Bargain to be better than the print version?

I loved the audio version of this book! I thought that the narrator really brought the characters to life and it was so neat how he was able to give a completely different voice to each of the characters.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Just as the story was written, Philly was my favorite. I loved "seeing" her blossom into a beautiful woman and it was very clear that her ability to come out of her shell was because of the safety, security and love of Luke. A good man will do that for a woman (not saying she necessarily "needs" that, but we're not going there for this review).

Which character as performed by Michael L. Canaan was your favorite?

My favorite character as performed by Mr. Canaan was definitely Luke. His smooth, deep voice really brought Luke Granger to life and enabled me to really get a sense that he was a true gentleman, something that is lacking in so many romance novels these days.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Love Overcomes All. Shanna Hatfield did a wonderful job writing this book and I enjoy completing the remainder of the series as soon as it is available! Thank the Lord for audio books, I just don't have time to sit down and actually read anymore!

I was reading through some of the other reviews and noticed one written by a particularly harsh critic who actually said she deducted a star because a dog died in this book. She also spoke very negatively of the narrator, citing his inability to do a female voice "at all" she said. I have to completely disagree with this. First, it's really quite silly to take off the rating because a fictional dog died. I can understand loving animals, but I've listened to books in the past where far worse have happened to humans, and I didn't deduct from the rating because of that. This was not a true story and if it were, it's not the authors fault that the dog died.

As for the narration job done by Mr. Michael Canaan, I can't for a moment fathom what it takes to do this sort of thing for a living. I have total respect for anyone who does narration and voice-over work. One of my all time favorites ever was the late Robin Williams.

Maidens and Matrons

The story was very sweet, if much more long winded than necessary. I understand that the author wanted to recreate the series of misunderstandings that were the original, but every thing seemed drawn out. That being said there were some great scenes. I loved Lizzy's worries over being rude.

My major gripe is the voices of the "matrons." Mrs Bennett, lady Catherine, and Lady Matlock. they are way too nasal and read way to fast.

Nice Idea, but Not Worth Purchase

What disappointed you about The Houseguest?

I found this on a list of books to read if you love Jane Austen novels, but was pretty disappointed. The idea behind the retelling is great, but it's poorly executed. The characters do not seem to be true to the original, and it doesn't seem to follow Jane Austen's voice at all. Mr. Darcy's narratives seem to be the worst. Overall, it seemed too silly for me to finish.

Love a good P&P story

Highly recommend this to anyone looking for some fanfiction. The narrator is good and the story line is well thought out.

Yes. I am a Jane Austen fan of 50 years now, and I just recently discovered these Pride and Prejudice variations. This is such a pleasant variation, with our beloved characters and all their flaws intact, yet "transmogrified" into a different plot. I enjoyed this variation tremendously and had a hard time setting it aside.

Brigid Lohrey does a pretty good job narrating, but I personally had to get used to her accent - possibly because she's not a native English woman?

Good Story and Narration

This was a good story. I always like a story where there is a gaming hell. I do wish there was more of the gaming establishment in the story. It would have add a little more intrigue to the story. It's okay the story was still good and entertaining.

I liked Helena a lot. Love a mathematician heroine. And the soon to be Duke, Marquess of Dennington was great, loved him. These two had some good chemistry together and nicely written sex scene too.

The story line and plot was good. A little mystery and a villain or two is always good. There was lots of dialogue throughout the entire book.

As for the narration it was good. I do like Tim Campbell almost always. He does a good job on the female voices and gives everyone their own distinct voice. He has a nice reading voice.

A good listen

This was a good listen by Christi Caldwell. The narrator was perfect was this HR listen. Worth the credit.

Good Book, Fantastic Narrator

Tim Campbell swept me along and kept me mesmerized by the words and story of The Rogue's Wager. His reading voice was perfect. Two people with very good reasons to not trust. Obstacles. Loving fathers. A wicked duchess. Home found.

Great story

This story is so compellingly beautiful that I have listened all day. Tim Campbell does a wonderful job of making us feel the emotional content to the point of occasionally crying or laughing throughout Christi Caldwell's absolutely addictive story.

Boring and frustrating

It just went on and on with the self deprecating thoughts of the characters. Revelations to the listeners never made it to the actual characters.
