Glimmer of Hope

I couldn't put the book down. This is my favorite kind of book and it was a sweet love story with some hard ships in it.

Too much pain

This is so heartbreaking I cannot like the story even minutely. I love some of her other works but cannot read anymore unless there is a warning attached to any other heart wrenching books.

Monotone

This is the first I've read of Sarah Ladd and this was not a good start. It was very melancholy throughout most of the book and made it very hard to finish.

MY TAKE

This is my second "read" of the book. This time I listened to the audiobook. The narrator did a decent job.

This is not a traditional Eden book since there's such a dark element to it. The ending, while happy, is decidedly bittersweet.

The thing that struck me so much with this read is how well Eden handled informing the reader of what really happened to Miranda and Carter. It's really gut-wrenching. Appalling. To put it mildly, the way they had been treated really ticked me off.

MY TAKE

I <3 Adam so much. The Duke is so deep, and there's so much more to him than his crusty surface shows. I love how this story unfolds, with both Adam and Persephone slowly discovering each other, especially with her approach to being friends. I was excited to find it in audiobook--at last--and jumped at the chance to read the story again. The narrator did a decent job with the accents and kept the accents for when people were actually speaking.

Delightful Adam

Loved the light banter between Adam and his best friend. I laughed out loud with some of their comments. A grumpy Duke who has not felt loved by even his mother and actually felt abandoned, ridiculed by others for his scars and a recluse falls Eventually in love with a quiet, respectful and persistent heroine. Quite a nice story. Even had a villain for added excitement :). Loved the ending, however, I wish this book was a bit longer. Would have loved to have another chapter to read where all comes to an even happier ending with a bit more closure. I do not believe I have ever read a book (even Christian) where not even a kiss was passed between the hero and heroine (until the last 2 minutes of the story that is), but it did not take away from the gloriousness at all. <3

Good One!

What did you love best about The Viscount Who Loved Me?

The interactions between Kate Sheffield and Lord Anthony Bridgerton.

What did you like best about this story?

When the wealthy Lord Anthony decides to take a wife he chooses Kate's sister; the beautiful, petite "Diamond" of the London season. Kate has set herself up as her sister's protector against the rakes and undesirables who are vying for the beauty's hand. She is especially against the charming Viscount Anthony Bridgerton reported to be the biggest rake in London. Their interchange is hilarious; she steps on his feet, and he steps on her hand.

What about Rosalyn Landors performance did you like?

Everything, she is an excellent narrator.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

After the poor choices in entertainment I've made of late "The Viscount Who Loved Me" was a pleasant surprise.

What a wonderful surprise

This was a good story a great follow up to the duke who loved me. It is the story about the oldest of the siblings. The story was funny and a page turner. Well worth the credit.

Stubbornly in Love

I loved the first book The Duke and I, however I think I connected with this one and enjoyed it even more. I had doubts about Anthony as his character was a little over-protective and was somewhat of a killjoy in Daphne and Simons relationship in the first book. However, getting to know his inner-workings and motivations, as well as Kate's, was both interesting and entertaining. I think Quinn did a great job showing how the characters relationships with their parents and traumatic experiences (death) impacted who they are and how they react to things was very well written, although frustrating at times.

Entertaining Scottish narrative.

Rory and Sybil's perilous flight from the king's men as they flee to the Highlands unaware treachery and murder await them.

Have you listened to any of Derek Perkinss other performances before? How does this one compare?

I've listened to several of his performances and they have all been good. He is a very talented narrator.

No extreme reactions, but it's a well written story with an interesting plot.

It's good entertainment with lots of twists and turns to keep your interest.

Claimed by a Highlander by Margaret Mallory is an exciting historical romance set in early 1500's Scotland. Like all of Margaret Mallory's novels, it is well written with well developed characters. As an added bonus, you get several characters from the history books mixed in with the fictional characters featured in this story.

Claimed by a Highlander centers around Lady Sybil Douglas who is fearing a hangman's noose after her infamous brothers commit treason and flee to France, leaving her behind to fend for herself. Once a favorite in the Queen's court, Sybil fears for her life as guards approach her family home in Edinburgh until a handsome stranger suddenly appears. Highlander Rory Mackenzie claims he and Sybil are bound by a marriage contract and he is compelled to protect her. After spending several nights in each other's company, and after escaping several terrifying adventures, Rory begins to see Sybil as not so much lowland baggage, but as a potential life partner IF she can learn to live in the Highlands.

And, of course she can learn to live in the Highlands! Sybil is one of the smartest, politically savvy, badass characters I've read in years.

The Bedwyns have arrived!

This is the first in the "Bedwyn" series and I rate it one of the best! The Bedwyns are hard living, hard loving, group of four brothers, (Wulfric, Aidan, Rannulf, Alleyne), and two sisters, (Freyja, Morgan), who are diamonds in the ruff. This book tells the story of Aidan Bedwyn who is home on two months leave from the military. He has gone to the home of a fellow officer, (killed in battle), to deliver the news about the death. The catch is the dying officer has received the promise from Aidan that he will do anything to "protect" the sister. It turns out to be an offer of marriage from Aidan to the sister. It is an offer made in order to help the sister remain in her family home.

Aidan's story is well told and "slightly" complicated as are the other books. He turns out to be loveable, strong, dependable and just a little hard around the edges. I found all the male Bedwyn's likable and couldn't decide which one I liked best. Being a huge fan of Mary Balogh's, I feel this is one of the best series to read, and as always the five-star rating goes to Rosalyn Landor! Yes, this one is worth the credit!

What did you love best about Slightly Married?

Everything! This book inspires a gamut of emotions: joy, sorrow, love, excitement.

Who was your favorite character and why?

It's hard to choose a favorite because the supporting characters in Eve's household were so colorful; likable. Kindhearted Eve is certainly in the running but I guess if I have to choose a favorite it is Aidan.

What about Rosalyn Landors performance did you like?

Rosalyn Landor reads with so much emotion she makes you feel like you are personally witnessing the events as they take place. She is one of a very short list of women that can do male voices well and the best for children's voices I've heard. Her narration of "Slightly Married" was superb. She males a good book GREAT!

Yes, I both laughed and cried.

Story wrapped up well, narration was poor

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Only if he or she had read the previous Spindle Cove novels. I had been anticipating this book, as it crossed over to her Castles Ever After series as well. However, it felt contrived in the beginning (especially the little boy's weird obsession with murder). Once the story got going, it was a little better. The romance was nice and steamy and ended on a high, though the book felt a little short to me.

What other book might you compare Do You Want to Start a Scandal to and why?

It's hard to say. My first inclination would be to compare it to the other Spindle Cove books, but this one felt different because the characters didn't actually have a history with each other like the other couples did. I guess the novella with Diana is the closest comparison.

What three words best describe Carmen Roses voice?

Not my favorite. Where did Carolyn Morris go? She did such a lovely job as Charlotte in the other books-- warm, optimistic, conversational. Carmen Rose didn't embody any of those traits. I felt confused listening to her during emotional scenes because of her matter-of-fact delivery. I'm going to have to buy the book now so I can experience the emotions as the author intended.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

"The only thing he can't keep a secret is his heart."

As weird as it sounds, I wish the author would re-read Minerva and Colin's story. It was the perfect blend of sweetness, sex, action, and comedy. Go back to your roots and stop trying to put so many puzzle pieces together at one time. Write what feels natural!

Great story, awful awful narration

TL:DR - Text to speech engines make for a better listening experience than this narrator.

First of all, this was a really great read. The FH and MH were so charming and funny and the whole narrative has a lot of character and levity and wit. When I read it, I could understand why the mains fell for each other and the plot stayed consistently interesting.

I really, really liked this story, so much so that I knew I needed an audio version. However, the narration was so bad that it sapped all the character and tone out of the story.

Incredible Series Ending

Would you consider the audio edition of A Lady Unrivaled to be better than the print version?

While I haven't read the text completely, I did listen to the entire audio edition. I love the way the narration immerses me in the story. At times, I would listen to the audio while reading the text. I would have to say that the audio edition is every bit as good as the print version and for me just a little bit better.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I adored Lady Ella. She was so overly positive that her few moments of irritation and frustration were very entertaining.

What does Liz Pearce bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

Liz Pearce gives each character a unique voice and I love her accents. Since so many of the characters have distinct accents, it made it all the more enjoyable.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed aloud many times while listening to this audio edition. I also found myself wanting to yell at the characters when they were being particularly dense or obtuse.

Such a wonderful audio edition. I only wish that Recorded Books had created an audio edition of the second book in this series - The Reluctant Duchess. That is the only flaw. We have the first (The Lost Heiress) and the third (Lady Unrivaled) books, but not the second book in the series.

I liked the book, "A Name Unknown" so much that I wanted to try another book by this author. Unfortunately I DID NOT like this story. It was very dark, with no real surprises on who the villains are.

First book great , 2nd contrived and drawn

I like these, upgraded first books from the author. I liked the first book better than the 2nd. The 2nd had some strengths that got lost in the prolonged drama of the story. The heroine in the 2nd was slow emotionally and intellectually to the point of annoyance. She created much of the drama in her life because of it. Sad too as story had great potential. These together are worth a credit.

I bought this book as a two-pack. The first one spinning the moon was okay. Very much like Outlander, just a different era. But enjoyable to listen to. Good character development. the second book in the two-pack was absolutely painful. the storyline was drab and boring the characters were very annoying and the narration was bad. I really had to force myself to finish this, holding onto hope the whole time that the ending would make my time spent listening worth it. no such luck.

This is actually two books in one, and I did enjoy them both. The first involves a story with a time travel twist that I liked. The second was a little darker and did keep me wanting to find out what happened, but sometimes feeling a little anxious. It was certainly worth the credit but not without a few minor lines repeated a little to often (a pet peeve of mine).

Karen White has absolutely moved to the top of my Favorite Author List! I haven't listened to one yet that I haven't been totally thrilled with. This book in particular is such a bargain for the credit. It is 2 complete books for one credit. If I didn't misunderstand what was said in the beginning, this book was her first two books published. They are truly fantastic books. The narrators are easy listening and definitely not distracting with their individual voices. With the hundreds of books in my library, I want another Karen White novel! Gezzz, that just means I have to buy more credits!

I loved these stories! They really held my attention, and zi found myself talking to the characters.

I enjoyed these books immensely and have bought all of Karen White's audible books. But I didn't care for the performer's/reader's voice inflection and emphasis at ALL during the second book. I am a student of English and literature and strongly dislike misuse of emphasis and pronunciation when it is read. I found myself correcting the wrong pronunciation out loud every time I heard it.

Good time travel Highlander book

The was my second fav in this Highlander series. The main charter is a scientist who is working on a time travel project that goes wrong. A great love story worth a credit with a good narrator

New twist on heroine!

I really enjoyed this book because the story allowed the heroine to be a "modern" woman with all the baggage that comes along with it.

She doesn't have to hide that she is smart and is appreciated for her ways. Allorah and Keir butt heads but when he finally sees her as she is, he can't get enough of her. The narrator does a wonderful job making the characters come to life. This is totally worth the listen.

ive listened to three of her books read by k. potter. there are two i want to read in series but they are read by a man and im not sure if ill like them . potter has the best accent

This series

I was a bit disappointed as normally a book series from book 1 leads into the next and so on. These were not the case. It seemed each book was a story of its own with only a few rare moments where there was some commonality.

Another Hit by Karsak

Melanie Karsak does it again! Highland Raven is a delightful mix of historical and fantasy that pulls inspiration from Shakespeare's Macbeth. The story centers on Lady Macbeth, before she ever took that name and is instead Gruoch MacAlpin the daughter of a royal bloodline and at the heart of magic from the Celtic gods.

Karsak has made her way onto my favorites list with her The Harvesting series, and are among my favorite audiobooks because of her care at picking amazing narrators who bring her stories to life. She doesn't disappoint with Highland Raven. I will admit to being somewhat hesitant with this one since it's a little different from her other novels, but that worry was pretty much pointless because I really think she knocked it out of the park with Highland Raven. We are given a chance to look at Grouch as she grows up and begins to learn that her fate has been set before her by the old gods, and that she is not only bound as a relation to the King but also by the old magics that still linger in the land. We get a surprising amount of religious strife as Christianity starts it's hold on the area and as those who still believe in the Celtic gods struggle to hold onto that heritage in the face of outright disapproval. Then there is the magic itself...I completely adored all the chapters in which Gruoch spent with the coven, as that is when we really start to see the Bard's work pulled in and weaved into the story-line in bits and pieces.

There was so much I wasn't expecting as far as the characters go. Grouch (Lady Macbeth) is portrayed as a power hungry woman who is completely lost to her husband's ambition in the original Shakespearean play, she pulls the strings behind his rise and we occasionally see the three fates at important moments lingering. In Highland Raven we see her as a woman who is placed with tremendous power and finds love not with Macbeth, but with Banquo.
