    A Bad Book...
First I want to say that the narrator does a terrific job of capturing all of the nuance of the material. The author is definitely expounding on his feelings about consumerism, the penal system and maybe being a Jew in America, but the method is very bizarre and Kafka-esque in the picture it paints. There are some comical moments and some thoughtful commentary, but overall this book is disjointed and as ill-fitting as one of Leonard Feldman's prison suits. From Chapter 12 to Chapter 13 it feels like there is some missing material. One minute Leo is sleeping in an electric chair in the warden's basement, and the next, he is sitting in an auditorium listening to the warden give an evangelical speech on joys of conformation. If this was done on purpose, I'm afraid the meaning was lost on me.

Samurai Lord Inaba has been murdered in his sleep, while guards stood outside his room. When Judge Ooka and his foster son Seikei arrive to investigate, they find a bloodstained origami butterfly on the floor of the room. Who could have left it, and what is the meaning? The trail leads to mysterious shape-shifting ninjas, vengeful peasants, and a killer who will stop at nothing to keep Seikei from discovering his true identity. In this Edgar-award-winning audiobook, Seikei comes into his true inheritance by winning a pair of samurai swords.
    Editorial Reviews:
Narrator Hayden Lee matches his calm tone with urgent pacing as he performs this story about murder and deceit in 18th-century Japan. Samurai Lord Inaba is murdered in his sleep while under the protection of the shogun, whose honor demands that he find and punish the killer. The shogun turns to Judge Ooka, the famous samurai, for help. When Judge Ooka arrives with his adopted son and apprentice Seikei, they discover a bloodstained origami butterfly on the floor of Lord Inaba's room. As they follow this gruesome clue, the pair finds themselves dealing with mysterious ninjas, vengeful peasants, and a killer who will stop at nothing to conceal his true identity.

    Seikei does it again.
I don't know, I just like these books. Seikei is smart but is humble and learns from his mistakes. I like the Judge Ooka character as well.
O.K., nice descriptions of feudal Japan.
I'm not a Young Adult but got this because it was an Edgar Winner. I'm no longer using that as a serious criteria. Not a bad little book but I suspected the murderer early on and wasn't sympathetic to the young protagonist who did not seem worthy of becoming a Samurai. The feudal setting in Japan was of interest and it's a quick read. I gave it to my young teen great-nephew of the video game generation and I'm eager to learn if he actually reads it and, if so, his thoughts.
Scary Title, But it is a Must Read!
Just like the other books in the series In Darkness, Death is a must read! I use the Hoobler's Samurai Series in my 7th grade classroom to teach ancient Japanese culture. The books are highly entertaining while being also highly educational. I recommend them for public, private, and home-schools.

The third in the series takes a different path from the first two books to show a different path to true honor. In this story, the main character is a samurai in training, but learns that the way of the ninja has its own set of honor. This leads to him understanding that honor is based on the man and not what his title or class is.
    Good continuation of Seikei's story
My 7th grade students used this book to supplement our reading of the first novel in the series, The Ghost in the Tokaido Inn. The Hooblers did a great job creating characters that help readers understand the world of medieval Japan. We even contacted the Hooblers to ask some questions about the books, and they graciously responded.

    Wonderfully narrated
The narrator poured life into the characters. Thoroughly enjoyed it. I am surprised(and disappointed) that this book is still not rated.
While the book is in itself a classic piece of writing, the narrator made it atleast 10 times more enjoyable through versatility in which he gave voices to characters.

    Fantastic
Loved this story. Beautifully read. My 12 year old son didn't want me to buy this but absolutely loved it once we started listening. Beautifully written. Would recommend. Great story. LOVED IT
    Very Enjoyable
A very enjoyable insightful story on lots of different levels. Enjoyed the maths, enjoyed the coincidences and most of all the insight into the world of the visually impaired.
    Loved it
I had heard a lot about this book and everyone said it was great. I really enjoyed it and will be recommending it to lots of people
    Really enjoyed it
What made the experience of listening to She Is Not Invisible the most enjoyable?
    Anna Canning's soothing voice.
What was one of the most memorable moments of She Is Not Invisible?
The last line - it's interactive!
Which scene did you most enjoy?
I'm not sure! It was all good!
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It made me quite happy, and proud of the character!
Best Book I've Listened To This Year!
If you could sum up She Is Not Invisible in three words, what would they be?
    Intriguing, Inspiring and Engrossing
What other book might you compare She Is Not Invisible to, and why?
Difficult, as I've not read anything quite like it! It is similar in some ways to Haddon's 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time' in that the story follows two unusual children on a quest to solve a mystery, but they are certainly more charming than poor old Christopher Boone!
Have you listened to any of Anna Canningss other performances? How does this one compare?
I haven't, but she read this ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFULLY! Perfect pace, tone and expression, and she had me giggling at the funny moments and crying during the more emotional scenes. Bravo!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
If I had the time, I certainly would have! I think I managed it in 4.
    Any additional comments?

The latest in the beloved Stanley Hastings series - the unlikeliest private eye in New York City, who doesnt even carry a gun.
Poor Stanley Hastings. After getting hired by a hit man and nearly getting shot, the put-upon PI needed some fun, so when a gorgeous damsel in distress walked through his office door she seemed just what the doctor ordered.
    Wrong again.
The fair maiden turned out to be a married mom who wanted Stanley to find out why her teenage daughter was skipping school. Playing truant officer wasn't exactly Stanley's idea of fun, but at least it should be easy.
    Fat chance.
Stanley being Stanley, nothing goes right, nothing is as it seems, bodies start to pile up, and faster than you can say 'fall guy', guess who's left holding the bag?
Before the case is resolved, Stanley will be nostalgic for the good old days, when all he had to worry about was a hitman.
    Editorial Reviews:
Talented voice actor Christopher Kipiniak reads the voice of narrator Stanley Hastings with the perfect blend of self-effacing, droll humor. In Caper: A Stanley Hastings Mystery, the 12th in a series by Parnell Hall, listeners again get to enjoy Hastings' antics. Thrown for a loop when a beautiful woman hires him, Hastings, the Woody Allen of private investigating, stumbles into an adventure based on his own insecurities and flaws. This neurotic PI is at it again with the same humanity and humor as ever.

    5 star read
This book is all of that & a bag of chips. It's taken me so long to finally finish reading this all the way through but I'm glad that I did. It's criminal that this man's talent as a writer is so underrated. All of the content was original, creative & downright entertaining. This book will always have a place on my shelf
Could Not Bring Myself To Finish!
It started out fairly interesting and rapidly fizzled. Well written but just didn't seem to hold my interested. I found myself unable to connect to any character and could not relate to the premise of the book. Unfortunately after reading the novel I have no desire to see the movie. Such a waste it could have been so much better.
    Excellent Read
If you're a fan of urban literature, you'll love this. Even if you're not a fan of urban literature, you'll still be impressed with Mr. Talbert's flair for storytelling. Check out his website davidetalbert.com .
    Loved it!
This was one of the first books I've read that made me laugh out loud! The characters were relatable and while some of the situations are far fetched, they still made the book enjoyable. I am looking forward to the movie, although I doubt it will be as good as the book. This book is a must read if you want to laugh while reading a good story
    Good read!
I enjoyed reading the book. Being a frequent flyer myself, I could relate with the flight attendants. I am glad it became a movie.

    Revised and updated April 2015
When author Torie Mills moved to tiny Fremont, Iowa, she found the love of her life and the place where she finally felt she belonged. Five generations of Dave Cameron's family had inhabited the large idyllic Victorian house he and Torie now called home. They settled in, started a family, and seemed to be living the perfect fairytale ending.
Fast forward two years. The Cameron family, including little one-year-old Rose, have been chased from their home by the time travels they believed they had left behind. Quiet Mahaska County has become a Mecca for fans of the psychological thriller Where Evil Lived, which Torie wrote concerning the 1959 mass murder of her Mills cousins. It was just meant to be a way to help Dave heal and put it behind him for good. Now it had taken on a life of its own.
While Torie searches desperately for the answers that will fix her fractured family and allow them the happily ever after they deserve, Dave struggles to hold onto his sanity and keep a secret from her that will test him to the limits of his endurance as he comes to terms with the time travel gift that neither he, Torie, nor their child will be able to resist or control.

Length: 7 hrs and 4 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 09-10-13
    Publisher: Blackstone Audio, Inc.
Ratings: 3 of 5 out of 9 votes
    Genres: Fiction, Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
In the fall of 1978, on the 640-acre family deer-hunting ranch on Goat Mountain in Northern California, a couple hours north of Clear Lake on a four-wheel-drive road, an eleven-year-old boy goes hunting with three men: his father, grandfather, and a friend of his father's. Goat Mountain is a dry place of live oak and buck brush and poison oak with occasional relief from stands of ponderosa pine, white pine, and sugar pine, and even a swampy bear wallow. This is the place where all the family's memories and stories and history are held.
When the men arrive at the gate to their land, the father spots a poacher hunting illegally on his property. When he lets his eleven-year-old son take a look through the scope of his rifle, the boy pulls the trigger. The men struggle over what to do with the dead man. Though the struggle begins between the father and grandfather, it ultimately becomes a struggle between the grandfather and the boy. By the end, nothing is as it seems.
An exploration of our most primal urges, what rules hold us together, and what we owe for what we've done, Goat Mountain is a compulsive read.
    Members Reviews:
A dark, brutal, crackling story ... that felt like time-traveling
Goat Mountain is a dark, brutal, crackling story about a boy, his father (and his friend) and his grandfather who go deer hunting in the mountains of California in the late 70s. Kathleen read it, liked it, and then recommended I give it a try because she thought I would appreciate the similarities with my own childhood. As Iâve described to her, probably to the point of mind-numbing boredom, I grew up on a ranch in Montana in the late 70s.
I read it in one sitting on a flight to DC (the very best circumstances to have a great book in your hands) and, more than finding a few similarities, the story at times felt like a cut and paste of my life.
The set up is that the boy, excited to make his first kill, is given the opportunity to look at a poacher through the scope of his fathersâ hunting rifle. Bad things happen and it all quickly spirals out of control into madness and violence.
Hereâs the crazy part, I have a vivid memory of deer hunting as a boy on our property â probably in Junior High âwhen I saw a friend across the canyon confront a poacher. Since they were both armed, I stretched out in the sagebrush and watched the poacher through the scope of my rifle just in case things went bad. So when I started this book, I was amazed by the parallels and drawn in by the authenticity of hunting trip.
This is not an easy book to read. Among other things, it plumbs the depths of violent urges â why we seem to enjoy killing â and the dynamics between generations of males in a lyrical, moving style. It felt, at times, like the dark, tortured Southern Gothic worldview of Flannery OâConnor only moved to the west coast where, though sunnier, was no less haunting.
Some of it felt less successful for me. The author has a unique style in which he almost catalogs details rather than embedding them in the narrative, as in the opening sentence. âDust like powder blanketing the airââ As a consequence, it felt too current to me which was jarring, since the action was decades earlier.

    Narrator awful
Where does Real Life & Liars rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
It would land in the middle I loved the story the multiple perspective the narrator was awful and that is the reason I put it in the middle.
What other book might you compare Real Life & Liars to and why?
Gone Girl..... The perspective and the flow of the book
Would you be willing to try another one of Joyce Feurrings performances?
no it sounded like she was sleepy all the time....One character smoked pot it sounded like this narrator joined her throughout the whole book. Change between perspectives should have been more pronounced
If you could rename Real Life & Liars, what would you call it?
    I liked the name
    Any additional comments?
It's too bad that you didn't have different narrators do the different character's perspectives it would have enhanced the book a lot.
