To exist in Delilah's world, Oliver must take the place of a regular boy. Enter Edgar, who agrees to play Oliver's role in the pages of Delilah's favorite book.
But just when it seems that the plan will work, everything gets turned upside down. In this multilayered universe, the line between what's on the page and what's possible is blurred. Is there a way for everyone to live happily ever after?

What a surprise - quirky and heart warming
The story is as quirky as the characters, but a lovely depiction of the hardships of life and how important our connections and friendships are to getting us through.
Good start and story but that's it...
I started listening to this book with a lot of excitement. The story of a little girl left behind in a department store is a very engaging start, half way through the book though, the innumerable characters and their minute descriptions of every single thing they do or think becomes trying and irrelevant to what I thought to be the main story...it turns out this is a book about three different people. And how their lives interject. I found it difficult to finish. Just too much unnecessary description and details of irrelevant in and out characters that add nothing to the story.
    Quieky and extremely captivating
Loved it. The narrator captured the characters perfectly.
The story was quite unique in its ability to articulate the characters quirky thoughts and personality traits.
    a modern don quixote
A child becomes obsessed with death when her father dies. Her mother sbandons her and this is the story of her search for her mother in the company of two oldies both of whose spouses have died. Its a bizarre tale told through the eyes of the young girl and two oldies who are her partners in crime. crazy, wild and sad. l loved the bold and brittle characters. A tragedy set in modern Australia.
    Large women's underwear!
Brilliant story about 3 lost souls and a mannequin learning that trust and togetherness mean everything. It's worth persevering with the narrator's monotone to hear a really lovely tale.

    Members Reviews:
    Good story overall. Great narration.
The storys concept is interesting and the reasons that start the civil war are different than most of the books I have read or listened too that cover the subject. The speeds at which some events escalate dont seem realistic for the facts the book has presented at that point. It is a good listen still havent decided if I am going to buy the next book yet.
A perfect blend of action and political intrigue
It was a great balance of political intrigue and military action of a possible American Civil War. Android action sequences and political back channels as the author has a pretty good grasp of what's going on in American politics these days.
Intrigue and Action Paired for a Great Book
Would you listen to Power Games: Operation Enduring Unity I: The Second Civil War again? Why?
Absolutely! This book had lots of interesting intrigue in I it and it required you to pay attention to all the details. It could definitely be enjoyed again with lots more information gleaned the second time through.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Power Games: Operation Enduring Unity I: The Second Civil War?
This entire book made me think of today and all the civil and political unrest of our current times. Isn't that what a good book does to the reader/listener - encourage thinking?
    Any additional comments?
The narrator did an excellent job of bringing this work to life. His pacing was fantastic, his characters unique and real, and his passion convinced me he is a true storyteller of the highest level. Job more than well done. I was given this book in exchange for an honest review which I have enjoyed writing.
Worth your time if you are a military fiction fan.
What made the experience of listening to Power Games: Operation Enduring Unity I: The Second Civil War the most enjoyable?
I had never listened to this author before so I wasn't really sure what to expect. I was impressed to say the least. If you are a Tom Clancy war novel fan, then you will enjoy this book and I am guessing the remaining two books in this series. There were several moments in the book that I thought, man I sure wish that would happen in real life (people who protest military funerals received a severe butt whooping), and other times I prayed that they would never happen (another civil war where Americans are killing Americans). It goes to show you that tensions can escalate very quickly under hot tempered leaders and poor choices can have devastating consequences. Compounding bad choices together really increases the aggressiveness of each party.

Small-town Alaskan "Harry" Harrington is a legend in a small circle, once the world's greatest extreme skier, racing avalanches and knocking backflips off of cliffs. Peter Harrington is a world-famous financier, hated across the globe for making hundreds of millions of dollars on his hedge fund and fleeing New York to begin a new venture in Shanghai. Finally there is Pete Harrington, a middle-aged rock star now touring third-tier venues and fleeing bankruptcy but hoping that one great new song can rescue him. This is one of my favorite books of the past several years
This is one of my favorite books of the past several years. I am amazed how often I reflect on Cohenâs story, and in particular the way that he told it. The dominant story is about three men leading three modern American lives that are dramatically different. Or are they? Theirs are energetic male quests for achievement, pushing limits to an edge where in spite of considerable mastery and accolade the world stops them up short. Then what? In working and acting out their answers, they meet a marvelous set of characters whose stories are often as much fun for the reader as the main tale itself. I chuckled out loud as often as I poured myself into the bookâs alternate reality. The stories of the three protagonists are distinctively individual, archetypal, and congruent. Their stories carry the reader through place and time from Hollywood to Wall Street to Alaska and even to China, where the ancient and more recent past fold into the present in the form of deeply reflective as well as outlandish events that many readers will find quite resonant. In between, a question from the 9th century Chinese poet Han Shan sneaks its way into the tale: Where is Cold Mountain? Where indeed? How, and how completely, are the three men, and their companions, able to resolve themselves?
Like life, the novel has an interesting characteristic: on an architectural, constructionist level not everything fits together puzzle perfect. There are gaps. There are images and implications that are not resolved fully. The conclusion is solid and misty at the same time. As I reflected on this, at first wondering if it could have been a bit more âtightly constructed,â I came to understand that this is an important part of the novel. The author got it right in a way that is stylistically in sync with the stories and themes he shares.

    Publisher's Summary:
Inspired by the lost voices of the Romany Holocaust, this heartbreaking and tender novel will appeal to readers who loved Sophie's Choice, Schindler's Ark, and The Book Thief. "Remarkable - brave, big-hearted and beautifully written" (Andrew Miller, author of the Costa Award-winner PURE)
Austria, 1944. Jakob, a gypsy boy - half Roma, half Yenish - runs, as he has been told to do. With shoes of sackcloth, still stained with another's blood, a stone clutched in one hand, a small wooden box in the other. He runs blindly, full of fear, empty of hope. For hope lies behind him in a green field with a tree that stands shaped like a Y.
He knows how to read the land, the sky. When to seek shelter, when not. He has grown up directing himself with the wind and the shadows. They are familiar to him. It is the loneliness that is not. He has never, until this time, been so alone.
"Don't be afraid, Jakob," his father has told him, his voice weak and wavering. "See the colours, my boy," he has whispered. So he does. Rusted ochre from a mossy bough. Steely white from the sap of the youngest tree. On and on Jakob runs.
Spanning from one world war to another, taking us across England, Switzerland and Austria, Jakob's Colours is about the painful legacies passed down from one generation to another, finding hope where there is no hope and colour where there is no colour.
    Critic Reviews:
"I thought it was a remarkable book - brave, big-hearted, and beautifully written. Harrowing too, of course, at times almost unbearably so, but Lindsay Hawdon meets the material with such honesty and courage we, as readers, can stay with it without feeling crushed by it. It's a first novel that clearly announces the arrival of a very talented writer." (Andrew Miller)
"A haunting book, dealing with a little-known part of history, told in luminous and poetic prose." (Rebecca Mascull, author of The Visitors)
"Wonderfully written - the descriptions, the fractured timeline, the colours bleed off the page and into your soul. This is not just a great book, but a very important one." (Marina Fiorato, best-selling author of The Glassblower of Murano)
"A compassionate, hopeful heart beats strongly throughout this vivid work of poetic imagination as Jakob's Colours journeys across time and space to illuminate a long neglected chapter in the wider tragedy of European history." (Lindsay Clarke, author of The Chymical Wedding)
"A heartbreaking love story.... Writing with passion and poetry, Lindsay Hawdon brings astonishing colour and life to an episode of unremitting darkness and despair. I honestly believe it stands comparison with D.M. Thomas's classic The White Hotel." (Rory Clements, author of the best-selling John Shakespeare Tudor spy thriller series)
"An impressive, heartfelt debut - a book about the power of stories to sustain us and drive us forward. It reminded me of Patrick Süskind's Perfume, but with colours in place of scents...." (Aly Monroe, author of the Ellis Peters Award-winner Icelight)
"Jakob's Colours reduced me to tears.

    Members Reviews:
    loved it
Very sweet story Along with juicy love making parts Loved that the author had family and friends involved with the main characters.
    Better than the First Book!
As Long As You Love Me is the second book in the 2B series but it can easily be a standalone. The book follows Lauren as she moves back home after losing her scholarship to college where she didnt feel like it was a fit for her. While shes at the store she runs into her longtime crush Rob (the older brother of her best friend Nadia who the first book in the series is about) and they end up spending time together fixing up his house - as friends, since he has a girlfriend.
Both of the main characters have their own issues to work through. Lauren is portrayed as a part girl in the first book, but shes nothing like that in this book. She deals with anxiety and was using drinking as a means to cope with her problems, in this book she is working on being her best self. Rob, while he is incredibly gorgeous, is very insecure as many of the people around him seem to have the mentality of well at least hes pretty. Theres a line in the book that goes along the lines of My grandmother once said hes just smart enough to know hes dumb. Lauren and Rob are constantly bolstering each other up and are great for each other that way as they navigate through life and family issues.
I loved the chemistry between Lauren and Rob! It was a slower burn and well worth the wait. They are both real characters and are developed so well that youre invested in their story. You want the best for them and you can see where they are coming from with the decisions they make.
Bailey Carr gave a better performance in this book than the first book, or maybe its that I thought that she was the perfect fit for Lauren. Her pitch and tone were ideal for the character. Shes easy to listen to and made it an enjoyable experience.
I got this book as part of the Romance Package so I didnt need to use a credit. If you have the Romance Package I recommend it, its got a lot of heart and more depth than expected. You do not need to read or listen to the first book to enjoy this one!

On a small, unnamed coral atoll in the South Pacific, a group of troubled dreamers must face the possibility that the hopes they've labored after so single-mindedly might not lead them to the happiness they feel they were promised.
Ann and Richard, an aspiring Los Angeles power couple, are already sensing the cracks in their version of the American dream when their life unexpectedly implodes, leading them to run brashly away from home to a Robinson Crusoe idyll. Dex Cooper, lead singer of the rock band Prospero, is facing his own slide from greatness, experimenting with artistic asceticism while accompanied by his sexy, young, and increasingly entrepreneurial muse, Wende. Loren, the French owner of the resort sauvage, made his own Gauguin-like retreat from the world years before only to find that it has become impossible to disconnect from the modern world. Titi, descendent of Tahitian royalty, worker, and eventual inheritor of the resort, must fashion a vision of the island's future that includes its indigenous people while her partner, Cooked, is torn between anarchy and lust.
By turns funny and tragic, The Last Good Paradise explores our modern, complex, and often self-contradictory discontents, crafting an exhilarating story about our need to connect in an increasingly networked but isolating world.

    Publisher's Summary:
A gripping novel about a seemingly charmed marriage and a mysterious disappearance at sea.
In 1905 a tourist agent and amateur antiques collector named Armand de Potter mysteriously disappears off the coast of Greece. His body is never recovered, and his wife is left to manage his affairs on her own. But as she starts to piece together his life, she realizes that everything was not as he had said.
Infused with details from letters and diary entries, the narrative twists forward and backward through time, revealing a lost world of fake identities, underground antiques networks, and a husband who wasn't what he seemed. Originally from Belgium, young Armand de Potter went to New York without a penny in his pocket. With cunning ambition, he quickly made a name for himself as both a worldwide travel guide and a trusted--if illegal--antiques dealer. After marrying he moved the family to a luxurious villa in Cannes and embraced an aristocratic life. But as he grew increasingly entangled in the antiques trade, and his touring business began to falter, Armand's control started to fray. As the world closed in, he believed he had only one option left.
Told with masterful narrative agility, De Potter's Grand Tour is a tale as grand as the tour guide at its center. Drawing on real letters, legal documents, and a trove of diaries only recently discovered, Joanna Scott points delicately toward the story's historical basis and unfolds a detective tale of the highest order.
    Members Reviews:
    The truth about lying
Joanna Scott (not to be confused with either the romance novelist OR Joanna C. Scott) delivers, in her new novel, a complex study of Armand de Potter -- a man who isn't who he says he is and cannot become what he aspires to be. Scott had access to diaries and letters to guide the broad outlines of her story, we're told, but I get the feeling that the de Potter of this novel is largely her own invention. She certainly uses him to her own ends.
Descriptions of the European landmarks, to which the Grand Tour of the title takes us, are among the top reasons to read this book. De Potter is the perfect guide for the American tourist in Europe because he talks easily about everything he sees. His obsession, however, is Egyptian culture and he is ultimately willing to ruin his paying business to feed a fantasy about becoming a recognized authority on the bargain basement antiquities he so assiduously collects. This may be Scott's theme -- no one is who they seem to be, really. And this is the story of Armand de Potter's life.
I liked the real people who salt the pages of the novel at key moments. Scott describes an actual turn-of-the-last-century power at the University of Pennsylvania named Sara Stevenson. When Stevenson leaves the University of Pennsylvania (where de Potter has, gratis, housed his collection), she leaves de Potter's fate in the hands of a controversial figure, Dr. Hilbrecht, another real person who fits seamlessly into this story. De Potter hopes to impress Hilbrecht with the gift of a small male bronze, but Hilbrecht pressures de Potter into an on-the-spot analysis of another small antiquity and de Potter's "wrong" answer allows Hilbrecht to instantly label de Potter as a fraud. Unfortunately, he never learns that Hilbrecht's own reputation is questionable; de Potter is always too quick to believe that he's beaten.

Heartfelt Story of the Struggles of a Cardiologist
I met the author a few years ago at the Decatur Book Festival and told her I would review her book. Unfortunately, it took me a few years to get to her book due to my backlog of projects. This is Debra MacDonald's first novel, and I was amazed at how well it is written. I am sorry I waited so long to read it.
The author seems to know a good deal about hospital procedures and specifically cardiologists and different types of heart surgery. Having been through some heart procedures myself, I was fascinated by the detail.
Cardiologist Phil Graham vividly comes to life. He is not a perfect man, but he is very human and pulls you into his psyche. He struggles with the unexpected death of his wife and unresolved issues in his childhood, as well as his professional competency. Heavy drinking and bad romantic choices stymy his attempts to find a better life. Out of this mess, he emerges with new strength.
    Outstanding novel...!
This is an exceptionally well written book. It widened my understanding of just what goes on in a hospital behind the scenes and makes me appreciate more than ever the many dynamics and challenges that physicians encounter daily.
The story line builds in such a way as to create suspense as well as Joy. It was easy to identify with each of the characters in their particular role in this novel. The authors truly understand the dynamics of human nature and reveal great wisdom in elucidating such.
Highly recommend a reading of this excellent novel. It will make you appreciate more than ever your personal physician...!
    Compelling Page Turner!
This book is one that made you want to get to the next chapter and then then the next without stopping! As the reader you continued to have hope that the main character would find his way, but each chapter left you not so sure... Not going to give the story away but a favorite line in the book that ALL can apply in life-"on your way back to living or on your way to dying."
    This a MUST read!
    A Medical Mesmerizer!
I have a folding chair in my garage where I sit to sort mail before bringing it into the house. When "Scar Tissue" arrived yesterday, I sat glued to that chair until I had read the whole thing! I read 6-9 novels a month (James Lee Burke, Harlan Coben, Robin Cook, David Baldacci, Dick Francis, etc.) and I found it mesmerizing, with lively plotting and astute character development.
