Battle of Solomon's Island has Authentic Feel as if You Are There, Witnessing War of 1812
IN A NUTSHELL
Several months ago, I reviewed one of this writer's early works of fiction, after reading a few of his nonfiction books. In that review I mentioned that his nonfiction style was superior to his creative writing. Since then, though, he has greatly improved. What I do love about his fiction, is an uncanny ability to always find a unique hook.
In The Battle for Solomon's Island, we have a fictional story that reads almost as if it were a historical narrative. In fact, had the author not warned in the early pages, I might well have been fooled into presuming this was a true story or, at least, was based on a real events in Maryland's Chesapeake Bay region during the War of 1812.
Length: Print, 62 pages.
Target Audience/Genre: This is Historical Fiction set in the early days of the United States.

EXCERPT
Marylanders Surprise British at
Solomonâs Repel Attack at Baltimore!
Such was the scorching headline of The Washington Daily Star that day as the beleaguered President picked up the paper in his borrowed office.
As long as the State of Maryland was loaning its State Capital in the nation as a temporary national capitol, the Governor of Maryland graciously loaned his office to President Madison.
Having the infamous Dolly Madison and her husband, the President as house guests, tickled the governor and his wife to no end. The excitement in Annapolis over the newly arrived guest from Washington had the sleepy little southern town on the Severn falling all over itself.
Aside from the rounds of partying...
Bottom Line:
Torn between rating it four stars or five. I think what makes a big plus for me is the inclusion of several black and white photographs that give an authentic flavor that too often is not offered in fiction. That unique point has convinced me to rate The Battle of Solomon's Island as a five star work of fiction.
