Not a Historical, Certainly No Romance, and Barely Erotic

First of all, can someone tell me WHY this book is listed in the Historical romance section? I found it when I did a search for e-books under that category. It was free, and I like erotic romance novels, so I downloaded it. Based on the book blurb, I was pretty certain it was not a historical, so that doesn't bother me--I'm actually just curious as to how such a book as this one ended up in that category.

Well now to the book. This was an ok read for me, but only just. This is the second book I've read by this author...there were actually three or four of her short stories being offered for free on the same day, so I grabbed them all. In this story, Beth--a player--helps her co-worker, Sandy, to get busy. Sandy is one of those pathetic creatures, who is shy and insecure. It doesn't help that she wears clothing that makes her look frumpy. A casual conversation at work, with her colleague Beth, leads to Sandy being "entertained" by two hunky dudes at the same time. The backstory and character development are minimal, as is unfortunately the case with most short stories, and the sex is so, so. Not quite hot, but a little better than lukewarm--IMHO, of course.

Again Ms. Padraige uses a layout, whereby the story is presented in subsections, each of which has a subtitle, for example "Living in a Rut" is the first part of the story, where Beth tells us about Sandy, and how the whole threesome idea came to be. The next section is entitled "Dinner at Betty's" and so on. In any event, IMO, because of its super short length, this book is an easy read. I would not recommend it; however, as there are so many other--and, IMO, much better--erotic short stories available. FYI, this book contains m/f/m sex, there are multiple orgasms with the same female--different males--and there is no condom use (I know from reading other reviews that some people find this a turnoff.) Happy reading!

'Reading Fanatic (CMP)' does an excellent job of summarizing the specifics of this "short" so I won't bother.

Interesting concept but a bit short on execution. I thought that the 1 sex scene was rather bland/vanilla but really liked how well these handsome hunks treated Sandy. At only 33 pages, one can't reasonably expect a literary award winner. However, for a story less than 35 pages long in the erotica genre it was pretty standard content. Like most "shorts," in the genre it read like a one scene excerpt from a full length novel. There is minimal character development, 2 salaciously gorgeous men, a M/F/M sex scene missionary style and no condom used which was a bit disconcerting for sex with 2 guys that are obviously participants in a high risk sexual behavior.

Interesting Premise

This was the first book I've read by Kallysten. I stumbled upon this book while I was reading a blog and thought the idea of someone involved with a vampire that gets pregnant was a different take. As someone who had no previous investment in the characters, at times I didn't know the back story or why certain people behaved the way that they did, which sometimes made me feel a little lost. Even without knowing that, the book is moving and captured my heart. There were poignant moments that brought me to tears and other moments that were so steamy they called out for a cold shower. No matter what direction the book took, everything was well written and they story was an interesting fast read.

I always ask myself if the story was worth the money and effort to read it and in this case the answer is a resounding yes. Take the time to pick this book up and you'll have an amazing time.

Wow!

Kallysten has done it again! I love all of the books and characters in the Out of the Box and The Edge series, but this one was so much more. We see so much emotion from the characters: Anando and Lisa's jealousy, Brett's fear of losing Lisa, Leo's love for everyone and ability to be a calming presence. I loved that we really saw into their hearts and minds, and the ending was surprising and made me really think about what the future will hold for everyone. I truly hope that this is not the end for these characters.

I am always truly amazed how I fall in Love with Kallysten work each and ever time I pick up her books!

My heart is so full right know.knowing how she brought two of my Favorite series together in such a heart felt way.

If you are a fan of The Edge series or the Out of Box series you will be thrilled with this wonderfully writen book! I truly did not want this book to end. Fans will be begging for more!

Something's Missing

This short story is hot, but something's missing. I think it should have been just a bit longer and better fleshed out. I enjoy erotica that lets me see into the minds of at least one of the characters. Drilled by a Demon is well written though and doesn't have any spelling or grammatical errors that are found all too often in short stories on Amazon.
