Great Book

This is one of the world's great books and not just for it's sexual advice - which is fascinating - but for it's look at the mores and culture of an ancient civilization. Liked the reader, too. Heard other samples but they tried to give a romantic "syrupy" tone to the reading and it just doesn't fit. This book calls for a "matter of fact" rendition

and this reading does that very well. Five stars.

WOW

Wow! This was quite a listen! Sex positions and advice were incredible and insightful but a lot of the rest of the book is about ancient practices some of which which seem very strange today - even a bit absurd - like how to get your wife..or one of them..to help you seduce another woman!

I must say, though, that ancient time certainly did not have the puritanical attitude and guilt about sex many have today. They LOVED it and went after it full bore! Kind of refreshing. I agree with another reviewer that the narrator was just right for this kind of book.

Sounds rushed

I wanted to listen to Siddharta, because I remember reading it many years ago with great joy. Hermann Hesse being one of the great names that one simply must read or hear this was sure to be a winner. But the narrator does not seem to be well enough suited to the text. I do really like Harish Bhimani's accent, yet, overall I can't seem to keep up with the meaning of each sentence. Before I have fully absorbed it, the narrator has already finished the next sentence. Herman Hesse writes with such simplicity that each phrase needs time to shine in its own meaning. The sheer speed of the narration does not give the listener much time for absorbing the sentence, and the narration suffers from it.

This was less than I hoped it would be. I thought that the reader was flat, this could simply be my interpretation of him trying to bring a tone of abiding respect to the subject at hand.

It would be a hard job to give life to a book that is an internal reflection. Still, I found the reader made it a tad dreary. I liked the print version of the book very much, this rendition left it without color.

Beautiful and wise beyond words.

Exceptional narrator! I loved it.

It is an interesting addition with some background traditional Indian music.

I highly recommend it.

I have listened again and again

Quite simply this is a great book and a great telling. The message and its ethos are profound and told simply.

Poi le bambine riappaiono a movimentare la scena, con la cattura e la tortura della farfalla, mentre il poeta riprende a interrogarsi sul destino dell Umanità. Torna allora ad emergere il tema della filastrocca, per prolungare la riflessione del poeta, che conferma la propria tesi rinunciataria. La dimensione psicologica introdotta dalla filastrocca dell'' incipit è quella surreale del sogno. La situazione in cui il poeta si proietta viene a quel punto sospesa fra sogno e realtà.

entame des études de droit à Paris. Il y fréquente les milieux littéraires et écrit des pièces de théâtre, des livrets d'opérettes et d'opéras-comiques.

Après le succès de

(1850), il se consacre entièrement à l'écriture, et étudie assidûment diverses disciplines scientifiques.

Ses premiers récits, publiés en 1851, annoncent les thèmes de son oeuvre future.

En 1857, il épouse Honorine, dont il aura un enfant, Michel.

Dès 1863 commence une collaboration fameuse entre l'écrivain et l'éditeur Pierre-Jules Hetzel, avec la publication de

L'histoire commence en 1787. La frégate HMS Bounty, commandée par William Bligh, est affrétée par l'Amirauté Anglaise pour rallier Tahiti afin d'y récolter des plants d'arbre à pain. L'Amirauté prévoit d'acclimater cette plante dans les colonies anglaises des Indes Occidentales pour nourrir les esclaves. Le voyage est rendu difficile par le caractère exigeant du capitaine Bligh. A Trilogy I Remember From College

I had attended college in Providence back in 1967 and I remember purchasing a paperback from a bookstore called The Bounty Trilogy. I devoured it and loved it, but somehow no longer had it. I did purchase the book fairly recently as a hardcover book but a recent broken shoulder made it impossible to read so I downloaded the Kindle version. I have no other account of the mutiny to compare it to, and I have no desire to do so. This book is a long one to read I admit but it, to me, is written in a way I become part of the action and love re-reading it. The first part covers the fictional Roger Byam and his life as a young officer on board the HMS Bounty.
