Peter Paddington is 13, overweight, the subject of his classmates' ridicule, and the victim of too many bad movie-of-the-week storylines. When Peter's nipples begin speaking to him one day and inform him of their diabolical plan to expose his secret desires to the world, Peter finds himself cornered in a world that seems to have no tolerance for difference.
Peter's only solace is "The Bedtime Movies" - perfect-world fantasies that lull him to sleep every night. But when the lines between Peter's fantasy world and his reality begin to blur, no one is safe from the depths of Peter's imagination - especially Peter. himself.
    Critic Reviews:
"Without a didactic word, this first novel tells a funny, honest gay coming-of-age story about a boy who finally confronts his secret self." (Booklist)
    Members Reviews:
    an interesting read
Peter Paddington is an overweight 13-year-old paperboy...with man-boobs. Any guys who have struggled with their weight as a teenager knows it's just downright embarrassing to be cursed with man-boobs.
What's even worse is that Peter has imaginary conversations with his nipples. His nipples are telling him what to do even to the point of daring him.
Peter is just a fat paperboy who is just not quite like the other guys. He isn't into sports, which is a disappointment for his dad. He rather be in Home Ec. class. He trades stickers with the girls. He has fantasies about the cute married man across the street. He "makes sperm" with the showerhead. Can you say gay? However, *Fruit* doesn't really dwell much on homosexuality but rather implies it. More like we all know he's gay but he doesn't know it himself.
His goal is to be skinny and normal like the other guys by the time he hits 9th grade in the Fall. However, he keeps postponing the day that he'll really start the diet. He has to deal with his family. His mother is going through The Change. His father is just distant. His sisters are fighting more than usual. His embarrassing and talkative Uncle Ed keeps hanging around.
*Fruit* is a simple read with some occasional humor. The talking nipples is just really odd as having man-boobs is already embarrassing enough.
I never realized that my own painful grade eight experience was so funny
Peter Paddington, at over two hundred pounds, is constantly bullied and picked on by his classmates as well as his two older sisters. In spite of his weight, I am sure every pre-adolescent can identify with Peter, the 13-year-old protagonist in Fruit: A Novel About a Boy and His Nipples by Brian Francis. I had forgotten some episodes in my life at that age yet Francis took me back to a very insecure time in junior high school. Perhaps one episode not common to many--or any--is that Peter's nipples talk to him. They have voices that only Peter can hear. His nipples argue with him and represent his inner voice or his suppressed truth. In order to silence them, as well as to keep them in place since his chest does have a habit of bouncing out of control, he binds them with tape. Peter starts with transparent tape, making starlike pasties for each nipple. Then he moves on to masking tape which he wraps around his entire body, binding them in place.

Sad treatment for a classic of historical fiction
The full version of The King Must Die by Mary Renault is a glowing, convincingly detailed retelling of the Greek myth of Theseus and the Minotaur. Unfortunately, this painfully truncated abbreviation sacrifices not only most of the details and all of the grandeur, but even the narrative logic of the original. The very talented reader tries to help the listener make sense of the muddled remains, but has been left too little to work with.
    very disappointing
What disappointed you about The King Must Die?
First why adbridge it , Mary Renault is a wonderful intellegent writer and it is great story.
What didnt you like about Michael Yorks performance?
He has a great speaking voice , but what a waste . I couldn't finish it . I felt like I was being droned and lectured at :(
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The King Must Die?
    Cut none of it !!!
    Any additional comments?
I would love to have her books available , part of the problem with her books is they are not for the lazy reader , she uses language and words you rarely hear these days . Alot of the pronunciation is difficult as few of us know Greek . I had been hoping for a lazy way to enjoy her books and didn't get it.
    WARNING! The abridgment ruins everything!
I loved this book on paper, but could not even listen to it after getting halfway through the prequel, The Bull From The Sea. All of the nuance, the personalities and the motivations of the brilliantly drawn characters has been deleted. If only someone would record an unabridged edition!
    Poor Mary Renault
What disappointed you about The King Must Die?
    The abridgement
What could Mary Renault have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
She did it. The books are wonderful. The abridgement is an abasement.
    Any additional comments?
    This
This is not abridged. It's decapitated!
Would you try another book from Mary Renault and/or Michael York?
Only if it's not abridged beyond all recognition. York does a splendid job.
Would you ever listen to anything by Mary Renault again?
    See above
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The King Must Die?
I'd just read the whole book. It's meant to be long, evocative and involved.
    Any additional comments?
Make it foolproof that purchasers know that they are buying an abridged work.

    Publisher's Summary:
Justin Foster has 19 years of nothing but trouble behind him. After escaping his abusive father, he finds himself in Rock Bay, Washington, with his cousin Travis. Justin is bruised and has a hard time trusting, but with the help of his family and the small town, he might be able to heal.
Logan O'Brien is also new in town, hoping he can finally get away from his past and the memories of the girlfriend who shattered his heart. It doesn't take him long to realize Rock Bay can be more than safe harbor: It can also be home. And for the first time in his life, he finds himself captivated by a man - by Justin.
Justin is attracted to Logan, too, but he's also wary. Physically, Logan reminds him a bit too much of the closeted jerks who used to beat him up after school. But after one awkwardly amazing kiss, he's smitten, despite how his past and insecurities continue to haunt him. Logan's love, faith, and stubbornness are just what Justin needs to believe their love is worth fighting for.
    Members Reviews:
    Sweet but disappointing
I really enjoyed the first book in this series and thought this third one would be just as good. It is a classic hurt/comfort story. Justin is a young man who has been abused most of his life by his father. The abuse was severe, almost killing him at one point. The reason for the abuse is very simplistically stated as homophobia, but the father's action definitely scream more was at play. Logan is the protector, straight guy that develops a crush on Justin. There is A LOT of angst and the MCs don't get together until well pass the midway point of the book. The basic romance is sweet, but I was very disappointed in the resolution of the father issue and some of Justin's actions.
When I read about an abuse victim in books, usually it leads to some type of growth on the characters part by confronting the abuser or overcoming the demons. I didn't really get that in this book. Without giving spoilers, I will just say I was disappointed about this aspect. Also some of Justin's actions bordered on TSTL. The best part about this book was the narrator. He does a fantastic job, as he did in the first book. It was also great to see the entire Rock Bay gang again playing supporting roles.
    Sweet & Tender
This is the third book in the Rock Bay series and I've listened to each one on audio. The stories of the men and their friends have each been sweet and written in O'Shea's tender telling. The narrator was a good choice to convey the emotions packed into the stories. I couldn't help but connect with the characters, especially these two men. Logan has been a secondary character since book one, and it was wonderful to see him find his HEA. Justin, though just introduced to us, melded right into the group of friends that I now feel I know - and like.
This book -heck, the entire series- is a good read for the lighter, sweeter summer months.
    Such a Sweet Symphony!!!
Would you consider the audio edition of Finding Shelter to be better than the print version?
    Audio books are the best!
What did you like best about this story?
I loved the deeply felt emotions inside of both Justin and Logan!
What about Tom Vilots performance did you like?
I really didn't care too much about Tom Vilots performance in the beginning of this book.

    Members Reviews:
    A Wonderful Read..
This was a beautiful love story of two amazing men, one an oncologists and the other his patient who had testicular cancer a year prior. The two initially had an immediate attraction when they first met, but Dr. Bran Ryan was his doctor. It would be unprofessional to date a patient. On a followup visit, Ian Fitzgerald, the patient, decides to ask Bran to dinner. Initially Bran refuses, but Ian tells him that if it means that he will get another doctor to treat him he would make this happen. With hesitation, Bran doesn't make it in the restaurant, but Ian catches him in the parking lot. They end up another place then they go back to Ian's home. The sparks fly and it is an unforgettable encounter, but when Ian wakes up the next day, Bran was gone.. Ian was devastated!!
Ian was determined to find out why. Bran had gone to his beach home to straighten out what he was feeling. As he sits there he sees a bottle bobbing in the water. He picks it up and finds a message and a necklace in a bottle. His life seems to change from that moment on. Ian walks up to him at that moment and the two find they can't stay away from each other. With still the fear of his cancer reoccurring, they begin their lives. Loved this story! Pure, sexy, and full of love. If you love MM Love and Romance you will love this one. Great short read. Story line is simple and easy to follow. The characters are easy to fall in love with.
    A really good read!!!
I really liked this book. Loved Bran and Ian very much. Their chemistry was off the charts good and the storyline was great. First time reading of this author. Can't wait to read more from this author.

    Voice and Story should align
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
The characters were too old to be teens. Too much rationalization, too many fully developed characters. May have been better as college age group. The narrator was very out of touch and did not convey voicing in a realistic manner. Very straight, bland, and uninterested in what he was providing.
Would you recommend The New Bad Ass in Town to your friends? Why or why not?
I would recommend the story as a self read rather than an audible.
How could the performance have been better?
Voice and storyline in agreement with each other
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
    None
Another magnificent YA from Mark A Roeder
I always give Mark A Roeder stories five stars no thinking involved because the characters feel so familiar to me. I wish when I was a teen gay life was as filled with great friends and of course sexy boyfriends. I had to settle for just one boyfriend :)

Great story with unique points of view
Would you consider the audio edition of Bashed to be better than the print version?
Yes, The audio version is well narrated and the separation between the characters through acting manages to make the story easier to understand and more enjoyable.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Ronnie, My favorite character but not the one I liked most. I thought the narrator managed to get across his sheer nastiness.
What does Taavi Mark bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
He manages to make reading the book slower and more enjoyable.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
When someone gets bashed, everyone gets hurt.
    Any additional comments?
A really well told story which shows how violence affects everybody involved - including the perpetrators. I have never come across a book which so thoroughly describes the point of view of the aggressor without making them sound like the victim. That`s not to say that the victims point of view is neglected with even ghostly apparitions/delusions forming part of the tale. The story also touches on how our lives connect and getting over the death of a loved one. My only criticism is the tag line -I'm not sure that I would describe it as "A love story" but that is only a minor point. In short I would recommend the book to anyone.

    Publisher's Summary:
In the year 2081, our planet has survived global warming on an apocalyptic scale. When the dust settled and the water receded, Dr. Anthony Smith, along with the few survivors of GWI, started society anew. Having come to the conclusion that injudicious breeding played a huge role in the destruction of Earth as we knew it in the 21st century, he worked closely with other survivors to isolate the Dionysus gene: the gene has the ability to manipulate human DNA to ensure that all male children be born gay, and all female children be born lesbians.
    A new society was born.
In the year 2300 Dr. Smith's descendants are ushering in the 24th century, having maintained control of the government that still rules society. Twins, Aiya and Aiyan, are preparing to meet their matches and take control of House Gaeland, the current ruling House. But not everything is as it seems.
Love is love, it knows no gender and doesn't conform to restrictions or boundaries. Aiyan has found his soul mate in Kaden, the prince of House Devi, whom he will eventually marry. But when the person Aiya falls in love with tests the boundaries put in place after GWI, all hell breaks loose. And in the midst of one secret unraveling, another will emerge. There is a growing anomaly that threatens to destroy over 200 years of progression. This anomaly is known as Opposites.
    Members Reviews:
    Sexy post-apocalyptic romance.
Opposites is an erotic post-apocalypse story where to keep the world from over populating a scientist invented genes where people were born gay. The houses made matches, and inside those matches, births were chosen to assure a perfect world and keep the genes gay. But there is an anomaly called Opposites that was beginning to become more frequent.
Opposites a very intriguing story with a great concept. The characters are all interesting, and there are quite a few of them, as we meet the parents and the main characters of this story.
Greg Boudreaux or Tremblay is one of my very favorite narrators. If I see his name, it goes right on my wish list. He made, an already sexy story come to life and even hotter if that is at all possible.
But enough of my rambling...go buy a copy and listen for yourself!
If you like post-apocalyptic stories, a new world, prearranged marriages, and super sexy romance with some hot man-sex, you will love this!
    Interesting and compelling, great narration
I have a (perhaps) unique perspective on this in that I listened to the novellas before the original novel. This helped me in that there are a LOT of characters and a LOT of world building going on especially in the beginning. I cant say I always kept track of who was who Im a far more visual person than auditory so my mind would wander a bit but having the wonderful Greg Boudreaux narrating means that each character was unique and easily identifiable.
I found the concept of this story captivating and the romance(s) both really sweet and super sexy!
Usually I shy away from anything remotely dystopian as I tend to find them terribly pessimistic and dour, but this was almost like an entire other world and far less doom and gloom than the typical.
If youre looking for a somewhat complicated, but rewarding and unique look at the future and you really like some steam in your romances this is the story (series) for you.
I think that listening to this is an amazing experience because Greg is such a tremendous performer.

    Ok... I get it!
So.. what a crazy and kooky story of Alex in Wonderland... This is m/m romance, but instead of a light and fluffy Alex meet Wonderland, it is kinda going down a dark path. Ok.. I totally get Paradox now. You know what...I think this should be read before Paradox...which is a prequeal to this story. Paradox makes so much more sense to me now... I really can't wait to see what happen to our Alex after the King dumped him...
    Great Narration.. simply great!
    Great credit or sale...
