    First one in the series
This is the first one of the "Pretty When She Dies" books that I have read. Therefore I don't take issue with the characters by comparison to the rest of the series, as others do.
Cassandra is an acquisition specialist (hired thief) and she is hired to acquire Aimee. I think it's a great premise and it's a quick and easy read. On a completely separate note, I think the cover art for this book is terrible. Those girls look like they're 10.
    Nothing like Book 1!
Was this an after thought to add more characters? I have listened to Book 1 and enjoyed it, I thought this listen would give me more background on their stories but there was barely a mention of the characters in book 1. If I were starting out the series with this listen, I would not continue on, much different than book 1. The narrator is the same, a little fast paced but I get used to it.
Pretty When I Listened! Bring on rest of series.
Enjoyable prequel. Vampires and witches oh my! I listened two this audiobook after listening to books one and two of series. I recommend listening to this series in just that order. However order you chose to listen, you really won't be disappointed.
If you liked Pretty When She Kills, listen to this
    Any additional comments?
This is an ass kicking, full of super naturals, short story that's definitely worth the 1 credit, even if it is only 4 hours.
A great addition to the series.
    Any additional comments?
A great prequel to the Pretty when she dies series. The characters from this first appear in book 2 Pretty When She Kills.
I read / listened to this instalment last & even though is set before the others, was easy to follow. Was great to see how the characters of Amy & Cassandra met, specially when it's alluded to in book 2 & 3. The only thing I didn't like was that as a prequel was a lot shorter then other books in the series. Would have been great to have spent more time with Amy & Cass & seen how their relationship developed.
All the books in this series are great, specially if you like paranormal, vampires & tough chicks.

    Publisher's Summary:
When Michael "Mickey" Monroe arrived on the planet Wilgrin after escaping his home of Rodeiro, his only plan had been to make just enough money to get enough fuel to fly to another planet. One where no one knew him, where he could fade into the background. Where he didn't have to worry about someone trying to beat him up at every turn.
However, working in the restaurant known as Durac, Mickey comes in contact with Carl Cavendish and realizes that no matter where he goes, someone is going to want to beat him up. Making a run for it, Mickey comes face to face with one of the most gorgeous carriages that he's ever seen, with a real live duke inside. Accepting the stranger's offer of help, Mickey soon finds himself naked and in the arms of Evander Cavendish, the gorgeous father of Carl Cavendish.
Before Mickey can blink, he's married and dealing with a stepson who would rather see him dead than at the dining room table, a husband who only seems to want him for his body, and a secret that he doesn't know how to reveal to his new family, but one that he only has about nine months to share before it makes an appearance all on its own.

    a big no-no
I don't like writing bad reviews, but I must do it in this case. This short story isn't worth your money. It's like... statements put together. No deep thoughts, no real background, no believable feelings. There are some very badly written clichés in it: main charachter had a bad childhood. He was abused. Feel sorry for him because it is the way of sappy romances. Or: For months, your son threathened me. My writer doesn't want to put real effort into writing those scenes though, so you must believe that it was very bad.
There are no real charachters in it. Not one. Just names with appearently nice bodies and some badly written and flat conversations between them. If it wasn't for the sex scenes and the m/m, I would say it was written by a teenager. Or a bad/beginner fanfiction writer (the mpreg is really suspicious).
I have to say I didn't have high expectations. I like light and simple stories - if they are well written. It was not. Even I could have written a better one and it's the worst I can say about a story seeing that I'm a foreigner (so my written English is very simple) without any gifts at writing.
I liked this one better than his other one
I liked this one because it wasn't depressing however the writer in my opinion does a lot of telling instead of showing. plus there is very little dialogue between chapters which is really sad because the story is really great. I hope this writer does better with his other works or at least goes back and does a rewrite of them where he shows instead of tell's.
    Three Stars
Would love a little more interaction between the mc's.
    Mindless entertainment
This book was okay but more because of what Mickey had going on than anything to do with his Duke. I knew the Duke found Mickey attractive but, like Mickey, I had no idea if he loved Mickey. There is no development of a love story but you still get a HEA. It was alright.
    nice
I thought it was an interestingly strange book. It needs to be a bit more descriptive and it was a bit too simple for me but I would recomend it. As long as ur not too picky.

    A lover from another time...
When Ted Ennis steps out the doors of the Criterion Theatre for a cigarette and finds himself in Victorian London, he begins to doubt his sanity. At first he thinks it's all a film set, and is sure that the strikingly handsome young man leaning against a lamppost must be the leading man.
What starts as a sordid transaction with a beautiful rent boy quickly turns into something much deeper, drawing him back again and again as he gets to know Jem and craves meaningful encounters with him.
But Ted doesn't understand the exact conditions necessary for his trips through time - and for Jem, time may actually be running out. Now Ted has one last shot to get back to Jem and save their relationship, before it's too late.

Can't even get through it to rate it!
I tried 3 separate times to listen to this book. For some reason I couldn't listen to the narrator for more than a chapter and, even then, couldn't follow the story. I won't buy a book read by this narrator again. I advise listening to a sample prior to buying. I wish I had.
Got my heart racing a bit, it did
What made the experience of listening to Trick of Time the most enjoyable?
I don't usually get so caught up in stories. I hardly ever feel anxiety about the ending when I read a romance, since most romance publishers require a happy ending. This story is well-written and gripping, and feels different than the normal genre-conforming romance short stories I've read. I became so invested in the characters that I had to skip ahead to the end before I could continue with the story.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I think Ted is a great character, and much of the reason I felt so much anxiety during the story is it would be just as easy for him to break completely as it would be for him to find redemption. I also quite like Jem, and find him sweet, though he is not as convincing as Ted.
What about Fleet Coopers performance did you like?
He did a fantastic job with the accents in the story, using slightly different tones and inflections for each character. It was a little difficult to get into his reading of the story at first, however, as his voice is not my favorite, hence the four stars instead of five. He's a talented voice actor, though, and I think most people will enjoy his reading of this.
    Any additional comments?
Wish there had been more sex, but as the story is only about 3 hours long, I GUESS it was a reasonable amount.
    fantastic time trick
What did you love best about Trick of Time?
I discovered this little gem on sale, didn't expect anything from it but suddenly there was this fantastic little time traveler story. so the unexpected trick was the great plot. the war veteran and the hustler. The older age of the story setting vs the even older times of 18th century. well written great characters that grew on me.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Ted . he was such a well developed character disabilities and all . the way he went from a bleak solo life to the brilliance of companionship and love.
    Which scene was your favorite?
    truly was several.
If you could take any character from Trick of Time out to dinner, who would it be and why?
ted of course. His character reminds me of a friend from long ago.

Title: The Unreal Life of Sergey Nabokov
    Author: Paul Russell
    Narrator: Ken Kliban
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 12 hrs and 40 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 01-16-13
    Publisher: Audible Studios
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 21 votes
    Genres: Fiction, Gay & Lesbian
    Publisher's Summary:
In his novel based on the extraordinary life of the gay brother of Vladimir Nabokov, Paul Russell re-creates the rich and changing world in which Sergey, his family, and friends lived; from wealth and position in prerevolutionary Russia, to the halls of Cambridge University, and the Parisian salon of Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas. But it is the honesty and vulnerability of Sergey, our young gay narrator, that hook the reader: his stuttering childhood in the shadow of his brilliant brother, his opium-fueled evenings with his sometime-lover Cocteau, his troubled love life on the margins of the Ballets Russes and its legendary cast, and his isolation in war torn Berlin where he will ultimately be arrested, sent to a camp, and die in 1945.
A meticulously researched novel, in which you will meet an extraordinary cast of characters including Picasso, Diaghilev, Stravinsky, Magnus Hirschfield ("Tante Magnesia"), Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas, Cocteau, and of course the master himself, Vladimir Nabokov, this is ultimately the story of a beautiful and vulnerable homosexual boy growing into an enlightened and courageous man.
    Members Reviews:
    Bringng Sergey Nabokov to Light
Vladimir Nabokov had a younger gay brother, of whom he and his family were deeply ashamed. Sergey was a talented artist, a passionate activist, and he died in a Nazi concentration camp.
This is his story, and Paul Russell deserves to win many, many awards for it.
A stuttering childhood in the shadow of his brilliant older brother, Sergey was a different kind of brilliant. He was devoted to classical dance, and many of his lovers were members the Russian Ballet corps. His life in Paris intermingled with the brightest stars of the Modernist Movement as well as the habitueés of the opium den. To his ultimate end in Berlin, dying in 1945 Paul writes an extraordinary novel based on the life of an exceptional person.
    Unbearable narration
I have spent many months trying to get through this audiobook and am finally giving up with about four hours to go.
The text is fascinating but the egregious narration is unbearable. It is spectacularly bad. The offensively homophobic voicing of the gay characters would be bad enough, but the tone and phrasing of every sentence is beyond irritating.
Such a rendering of writing of this quality is a travesty.
    Good story
It pulled me back into Gay men's culture - I'm 35 years past that time in my life -but this book was written with a pretty good understanding of the guys and how each of the many types of personalities flourished in youth - and age.. Fir that alone this was an excellent book.
Why do we always have to die in the end... Its just as much a fact of live as the fact of our live
    Intriguing novel
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Delightful novel that takes a look at the fictional gay brother of the famous Russian author Vladimir Nabokov. The novel jumps between two time periods, pre revolutionary Russia and the Second World War, eventually merging at the devastating climax in Berlin during the War. A rich tapestry of real historical characters is woven into the story line, namely Cocteau, Stravinsky, Diaghilev and Gertrude Stein etc. making for some amusing and intriguing scenes as Russell brings these characters to life.

    Not bad, not great...
I am a fan of Andrew Grey's and have enjoyed everything that I have read thus far. I am a huge fan of happy endings and happily ever after and Mr. Grey's tales offer this scenario. That said, this book was missing something. Though the happy ending was there, something was missing. I actually had to read several sections over again to see what I had missed and did not figure it out. The characters just seemed to be lacking something or maybe the story was missing something. If I did not know better, I would say the story was rushed. Though I would still recommend the book...because I am all about happy endings...it is not one of Mr. Grey's best. Of course, this is just my opinion...
Another good one by Andrew Grey
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes. It is well narrated, well written and tells a great story.
What other book might you compare A Taste of Love to and why?
Andrew Grey's "Bottled Up" would be a fair comparison. Both books have a somewhat similar plot involving a young, innocent, homeless or nearly homeless person being saved by a caring soul. Both are very well written and very well narrated.
What does Jeff Gelder bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Honestly, If it weren't for Jeff reading the book to me, I wouldn't have had time to read it. That aside, he is a very good narrator, and has a method that gives each character their own vocal identity.
Who was the most memorable character of A Taste of Love and why?
Billy. His plight and dedication to his loved ones really touched my heart.
    Any additional comments?
Another great by Andrew Grey. If you have read any of his other books and enjoyed them, this one will not disappoint.

Length: 10 hrs and 17 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 11-30-12
    Publisher: Brilliance Audio
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 63 votes
    Genres: Fiction, Gay & Lesbian
    Publisher's Summary:
Nick Nolans Double Bound reunites us with many of the characters introduced in his delightful Strings Attached: Jeremy, now in a committed relationship with fun-loving, hot-headed Carlo; Arthur, Jeremys protector, confidant, and mentor; and Katharine, Jeremys wealthy benefactress, still hiding a slew of secrets and hidden agendas. This sequel displays the same wit, verve, style, and sense of adventure that were so engaging and fresh in Strings Attached. And where Strings Attached playfully alluded to Pinocchio, Double Bound has fun with the "Jack and the Beanstalk" fable.
Just as Strings Attached was Jeremys story, Double Bound is Arthurs, exploring his troubled relationship with disapproving parents and his precarious years as a gay Marine. However, theres an added element this time out: the stakes are higher, the repercussions more dire, and the choices harder and more consequential. There is a darker feel to this novel, which not only adds depth to the characters but highlights Mr. Nolans growth and confidence as a storyteller. Weve moved beyond high-school concerns into real-world choices, where outcomes are not always tied up in neat happily ever after packages."The plot moves along swiftly with great suspense...Double Bound is one of those books that is not easily forgotten...this is the kind of read that will haunt you." - Amos Lassen, Literary Pride

    Credible, funny & romantic
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Double Bound continues the story that started in Strings Attached, focussing more on Arthur's character this time. Nick Nolan's writing is a perfect mix of detail and plot advancing narrative. He eloquently and weaves a story you can't help getting wrapped up in.
Who was your favorite character and why?
It's hard not to relate to Arthur as central character in this book.
Which character as performed by Luke Daniels was your favorite?
Luke Daniels is a pleasure to listen to. For no other reason than his Aunt Catherine is COMPLETELY believable, I would say she was my favourite.
If you could take any character from Double Bound out to dinner, who would it be and why?
Probably Jeremy Tyler, an old soul even at a tender age.
    Any additional comments?
    Buy both these books.
Not what I expected, but fun & satisfying 2nd book
I enjoyed the first book in this series much more than I was expecting to and I was quite satisfied with where that tale ended. I had after the "happily ever after" scenarios in my head. When I saw that there was another book the in the series I was torn about reading it. On the one hand, I really enjoyed the first book and was eager to revisit the world and the characters. On the other hand, this book would inevitably alter the what happens after happily ever after fantasies in my head. And it did. It completely dashed all of those visions - shattered them irreparably.
The beginning of this book is confusing as there is some time-jumping that happens. It is also heart-breaking as we see where our beloved characters are, the turns and secrets and reality that contain them. Again, I love the weaving of a classic fairy tale over the latticework of this story.

    Publisher's Summary:
What do you do when you fall through the loopholes in the system and all you have to rely on are your own wits?
Lois and Sophie have scrambled and saved for years, planning for their retirement in Florida. But now they've lost it all, and Lois' sniper training from her long-ago service as an Army nurse leads to a desperate career choice.
When Detective Morgan Holiday is assigned to investigate a spate of sniper killings, it's just one more stress point in her already overburdened life. But as she grows increasingly solitary - coping with an Alzheimers-plagued mother who refuses to be confined to a nursing home, and a police partner counting the days to retirement - she comes to realize that these murders may cut close to home.
A modern morality tale of justice, retribution, and women who refuse to be politely invisible.
    Members Reviews:
Rooting for the "bad guys" has never been so good!
My lord how I adored this. I listened to it to and fro from work. I must say the reader did an amazing job.
It's not hard to imagine an older lesbian couple reaching their retirement years and struggling for their income. One is a teacher, the other a retired military nurse, and living on social security and non-existent pensions is a struggle. Pretty much the only thing they own that doesn't have a use - they've sold everything else - is a rifle they have kept for sentimental reasons.
And though they can't quite pin exactly when - or which of them it was exactly - the decision was made, they did indeed make a decision to make some extra money by offering their services in a growth industry: hired assassination.
These two wonderful old women are a joy to read - even though they're killers for hide (and at times even because of it). That they have a moral compass in play (albeit one that still allows their murder-for-cash solution to life's problems) is central to how they're still so damned loveable, and as the tale progresses, and their backgrounds, histories, loves and pains come to light, my affection for them only grew.
Counterpointed with these two lovely ladies is another woman, the detective who is assigned to the case when the bodies start to stack up. Her journey was also intriguing, enjoyable, and emotionally encompassing, and the last few chapters, when things start to grow very taut, had me very nervous for all concerned.
Can you root for the killers?
In this case, how couldn't I?
If Jane Tennison Had Been a Lesbian
Take one desperate-for-money, aging lesbian sniper who needs to support her partner, and a lady detective on her trail.
Throw in a mother w/Alzheimers, a crotchety old PI partner who's about to retire, and stick them all in Florida. What could go wrong?
Miller has always been adept at questions of morality, and the world of women "of a certain age." With her sense of humor, mixed into an entertaining detective yarn, you can't lose.
    Good story
I was pleased that not only lesbians are shown but older lesbians were the central characters in this book.

    A straight out Soap Opera!
This book was so great. There were moments when I thought of Andrew as a Texan American Cowboy until he started realizing his feelings. They started off as a couple of neighbors who became great friends. It seemed like every time Andrew and Nathan seemed to get closer and closer something came between them. When obstacles like friends, marriage and family seemed to get in the way the two felt like they would forever be apart. I won't spoil the story with too many details but it is a must read or listen to.
There were times when drama would hit the fans and I was like OMG!! I cheered for Andrew but at the same time I was like "He's married, leave him alone. " Of course later I was like "He loves you, you love him. Get over it!" You will get it once you listen but man there are some frustrating times with this book. All in all great book. Buy it!

Sex, drugs, and rock and roll. Coming out and coming of age in the days of AIDS, MTV, Reaganomics, and Just Say No.
Daron Marks is a young guitar player with a dream: to make it big like the guys he grew up idolizing in New Jersey - or at least escape his dysfunctional family. He makes it as far as music school in Rhode Island and the rock clubs of Boston beckon him. But it's hard to succeed from the closet.

The Start of A Relatable Journey...
I have had this book in my library for some time and just have now gotten around to reading it. Written and read like a journal, you are introduced to Daron and become privy to a subjective perspective of a coming of realization in the 80s. Volume 1 provides the groundwork to understanding where Daron comes from and why he sees the world the way that he does. As someone who was the same age as our protagonist in the 80s, I can relate to the fear associated with the awakening and acceptance process. I look forward to the next volume and seeing where Daron goes from here I enjoy Cecilia Tans writing style and Teddy Hamiltons narration was spot-on. On to the next book
    Really enjoyable
Daron's Guitar Chronicles Volume 1 is the first in a series of stories about the life of Daron, a young nineteen year old musician growing up in the 1980's in the world of sex, drugs and rock'n'roll.
Check out the author, Cecilia Tan's video (on YouTube) which tells a little about how this series of books came into being.
I actually listened so the audio version of this book and quite enjoyed the narration by Teddy Hamilton. His voice and inflections really seemed to suit the story and the character of Daron.
The story itself is part of a larger journey, and this book only covers a small part of Daron's life. In this first book, we are introduced to Daron and his struggles to find his path in life. With dysfunctional parents who he no longer really sees or talks to, he is out making it on his own. He is trying to get his band up and running while earning enough money to fund his college course. He is also struggling with his sexuality and everything that goes along with discovering who he really is and what he wants.
A large part of the story is taken up with Daron accepting a roadie gig with the band of a friend of his father's. As he travels the country he meets some interesting people and has some interesting encounters - from a couple of sexual exploits with men to being actively pursued by a girl also on the tour.
This is not a romance, this is a character driven tale that introduces Daron - he is sweet and insecure and a bit confused - and tempts the reader into the next book of the series where Daron's journey continues.
This is a relatively short book, at least I think it is. I have the Kindle version but listened to the Audio version which is just over 4 hours long (the audio versions always take much longer for me as my reading speed is heaps faster than the narration). But as usual it was a great way to spend my commute to work over a couple of days!
    Excellent
I m left with a feeling of having lived a few days in the past with this character and his friends. It is very much a period piece, very evocative of that era when computer and cell phone are just beginning to have an impact on the music business and on the making of the music. I am left reflecting
on how some of Darons problems would be much different in present day.
