    Wrong choice of actor
Would you try another book from Sara York and/or Stan Jenson?
No I would not. Had I listened to a preview of the audio I would not have bought this one.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
This was like listening to Grandpa reading porn. Stan Jenson's voice is nice but it is clearly an older man and as much as his voice fits the old gruff cowboy it does not fit when talking about how sexy a guy's jeans fit his rear. At least for me.
    Love this book but
I love this book but the narrator doesn't match the content. Sex scenes sound like the wicked witch from Oz
    Awkward read & listen
The author writes for men like they think and speak like women. She also gives more information than is needed and it strips the imagination of the reader. The performance was very distracting. While the actor has a great natural voice, his character voices sound like puny, old men. This is at odds with the descriptions and actions of the men in the story. Pass on this one.
    Good story worst narration
I thought this story was interesting, lots of twists and turns. However I couldn't listen to this narrator. He made the men sound like dim witted red necks. The narrator was distracting and I had to stop listening.
    love this series
love this series but the narrator leaves a bit to be desired. But easily overlooked for such a great series.

Epic Fail on Choice of Voice Talent
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I have read all of the books in this series. I loved all of them and really enjoy this writers style. I heard the opening of the audio book and was immediately wary. Short story... I didn't make if half way through the first chapter. The VO is aweful. I think the author chose the wrong voice talent for this book. The character "voices" were indistinct and not nearly masculine enough for my taste. A shame that this great book wasn't better represented by the audio version. I'm glad I purchased this as an audio add on so I'm only out $2.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Aaron Pickering?
    Gomez Pugh
    Cowboy Goodness
I have read this book and really enjoyed the audio version. The narrator did a great job at bringing these characters to life. This is the first book of a series and the story is really sweet. This is about an established couple who really love each other. The conflict comes in when a new pastor comes to their small town and starts anti gay crap talk. The plot is a little weak but still enjoyable. Worth a credit.
    2.5 stars
What did you like best about Morning Report? What did you like least?
This story is a large part PWP. Which is fine, I quite like PWP, but in an audiobook it gets a bit boring. You could almost predict - conflict scene, sex scene. Conflict scene, sex scene. And so on.
The main confrontation in the book, which is built up and built up, never actually happens, which leaves things unresolved and the reader (listener) unsatisfied.
The narrator's voice was great for about 90% of the book, then there was a few voices that pulled me totally out of the story. The characterisation - by both the writer and the narrator - was good.
There's also an underlying Christian message that rears its head at the end and just squicked me the fuck out. It has its place, but it's not what I want in my gay romance.
    Interesting journey
I found this to be an interesting journey watching how people from a small town can be swayed to become homophobic towards to young men they have known from children just by one powerful pastors views. Only then to be invited into a congregation by another pastor who is also gay
The narrator was able to keep me captured and intrigued to follow the journey to its end

Best Narrator in the Known Universe
This is by far my favorite of the Arthur/Jeremy books. I officially think Luke Daniels may be the best narrator in the known universe. Not just for this series but for the Iron Druid Chronicles as well. This is the 3rd book in the Arthur/Jeremy books, but according to the author, the fourth book in the series; with Black as Snow as the third. But I didn't read Black as Snow and this book picks up right where Double Bound, the 2nd book, leaves off, so it's confusing. I can tell you, I didn't feel like I missed anything by not reading Black as Snow. This installment was my favorite because it really deals with Arthur and Jeremy's relationship in a tender and unexpected way. The author dives into all kinds of existential ideas and cleverly weaves in Greek and Roman history and mythology. I really enjoyed it and Luke Daniels really just brought it to a whole new level.
    Great ending.
Excellent finish to the series. Started to tear up near the end. Definitely a must listen. Can't say more without ruining it.

A good listen, but could be better.
I enjoy Andrew Grey's writing and have listened to many of his books. This one seemed to oversimplify the story to cram it in to a shorter book. Not enough detail was given, and you find yourself thinking "No one would actually do that." The book needs to be rewritten and made about 50 pages longer to add more detail and explain away bad parts in the plot.
That being said, the story was somewhat enjoyable, the narration was good and the story, while flawed, was passably entertaining.
    It was ok
I like Andrew Grey and most of his books. This narrator is my least favorite. He sounds more like a children's book reader. His voice is too old for the characters. And listening to an older man reading sex scenes like a children's book just doesn't do it for me. I like the story but I think for me it would have been much better with a different narrator.
    Andrew Grey never disappoints!!!
Once you get started, you won't put it down! Grey always gives a stellar storyline with lovable characters!

    Publisher's Summary:
Disturbed By Her Song collects the work of Esther Garber and her half-brother Judas Garbah, the mysterious family of writers that Tanith Lee has been channeling for the past few years. Possibly autobiographical, frequently erotic and darkly surreal, their fiction takes place in a variety of eras and places, from Egypt in the 1940s, to England in the grip of the Pre-Raphaelites, to gaslit Paris and to the shadowy landscapes carved by the mind and memory. The themes of youth and age stream through these tales of homosexual love and desire. These stories recall, at times, the work of Lawrence Durrell, Colette, and Angela Carter.

The narrator sounds like a 10 year old boy reciting a school play, complete with cringe inducing character voices. I don't normally leave bad reviews but this was unbearable.

    Editorial Reviews:
The complicated plot of Naked heart twists together the narratives of two women - one, who works as a private detective, and the other who works at an upscale fetish club. When their careers get tangled together, things get erotic, and dangerous. Listeners will be completely at the mercy of this gripping romance, narrated with sensual alto of Kathleen Early. Early does especially well with dialogue, giving each character a unique and recognizable attitude and voice. At times frightening, at times touchingly tender, this audiobook gives a twist to the classic romance.

    Too much
When the writer concentrated on the story this was a very good piece of fiction. Unfortunately far too much time was spent on detailing sexual encounters. The sideline story concerning S&M was given too much time and detail. In an audio format this isn't as entertaining as it might be in another medium.
Another issue was the reader. Most of the story was read in a monotone that grated on the ears. There was also some word fumbling as she had problem with pronunciation on some words. Overall I saw some potential for future works if the author concentrates on moving the plot rather than digressing into Penthouse Forum territory.
    Whew! Very hot.
Great narrator, great story, really great writer. This one is the most erotic I've read from this author and it translates well into an audio book.
    I wasn't a fan.
It was too slow. The 1st chapter didn't pull me in. neither did the others.
very sexy and romantic. Awesome narrator
I had to listen to this one until it was done. A great story. very sexy lesbian story. this is a really great narrator for this kind of a book. I will look for more books narrated by her.
    sexy as hell
narrator was great. story ok but maybe a bit convoluted but lots of chemistry between the leads and characters really well written. did I say i loved the narrator because she is now one of my favorites. definitely top 3.

    Good short Mystery
Book 2 in the Dick Hardesty Mystery series
After Dick is hired to find a murderer, he discovers he is actually looking for a serial killer. The police are reluctant to admit there is a serial killer because the killer is targeting gays...
Dorien Grey writes realistic and sympathetic characters, most notably Ed and Dick.
Jeff Frez-Albrecht does a decent job of narrating.
I liked the build up and mystery of the story. I read the book before listening to it and I still found the scene where the motive is revealed heart wrenching.
Im not sure how I feel about the ending. Nevertheless, I would definitely recommend this book.
Gosh Darnit, the murderer broke my heart 1/11/2015
    Any additional comments?
Wow! The ending of this story had me all kinds of twisted up inside! I honestly, desperately wanted Dick to just walk away from this one. Such a sad ending but a very well thought out mystery, that left me sighing with tears.
Great story but narration was a challenge
Very very good story. Duration was good but the narrator didn't change between characters. Sometimes became very confusing who spoke. Narrator did have different voices for different characters, but he only use them once in a while. Really like the narrator not necessary the narration.
Not as good as good as "The Butcher's Son"
"The 9th Man" is a sophomore slump as the second Dick Hardesty mystery. While the writing is crisp, the mystery's structure is frustrating and its character development is not strong. This second installment lacks the imagination and expertise that gave the "The Butcher's Son" depth and interest. For example, in the first novel, the main character exhibited a cleverness and ability in public relations and politics that held my attention. However, in the "9th Man", private investigator Hardesty is so far behind the murderer(s) that Mr. Grey jeopardizes faith in the his detective. I'm hoping that "The Bar Watcher" will be a rebound.
    A Good Old-Fashioned Mystery
What did you like best about this story?
Dorien Grey has always been careful never to reveal much about Dick Hardestys appearance. We may conclude by how successful he is with the guys that hes far from ugly. But thats about it. But now, thanks to Jeff Frez-Albrecht, the wall has thinned. No, we still cant see him, but we can hear him. And, oh, boy. Sexy, deep, and hunky. No wonder Dick has no trouble finding guys.
The 9th Man, the second story in the series, sees Dick called in to investigate a murder. An the more he digs, the worse it gets. Theres a serial killer on the loose taking out gay men. The homophobic police department dont seem to be doing anything to catch the guy. This is a solid and well-crafted listen. It follows the rules for any good murder mystery.

He has been hired to find the murderer of a dead porno star and in a case that traps him between the two men he loves, searching for a serial killer's only living victim.

    Members Reviews:
As reviewed: goodly dose of sex
I do enjoy the two Boystowns' I've read. Am not quite sure I agree with the reviewer who applauded the"goodly douse of sex". They are well done and erotic. Some add and some detract, or seem to be spaced to closely together. The descriptions and sequencing are to "the same" because the phrasing is identical from one to another. The scene at the closing on Nick and Daniel plays out like all the sex scenes. It loses it emotional punch in that sameness. Have to wonder if Nick, and the series, can survive him going monogamous, and if Thornton can pull it off if Nick does go monogamous. Will it be believable when half the plots are composed around goodly doses of sex. Has Thornton created a strong enough character to stand on his own? Guess I'll read on to find out if Thornton's writing are good enough.
    Sam Spade, Chicago Style
It's a detective novel first, and a gay detective novel second. It matters that Nick Nowak is gay, but it matters as a part of his complete personality. I very much enjoyed the Chicago milieu, Though I've never lived there, I love visiting, and the north side, near south side and loop settings bring it to life. Nick is a little bit hard boiled and a little bit vulnerable. I've continued to read additional books in the series and have enjoyed seeing Nowak grow and change as the series progresses. The developing AIDS epidemic of the 80s figures in these stories as a dark and realistic villain in itself.
This Is A Great Serial Of Gay-Noir Stories
Chicago, early 1980's... NIck Nowak is an ex-cop turned private eye. Nick's a guy. He likes grilled ham and cheese sandwiches, jazz and sex. He takes his work seriously and always gets the job done. These stories can stand alone, but are best read in order because they characters/situations from one story spill over into the next. The writing is good, the stories and characters interesting and the sex is hot. This is a great gay-noir series. I'm so glad I gave it a chance. Book 1 is good... book 2 is very good!
5 stars for the book & audiobook
Like the first book, Boystown 2 includes three compelling mysteries -- "Little Boy Silent," "Little Boy Blond" and "Little Boy Loved." Of course, what's most compelling about this series is PI Nick Novack himself. Brand Langer is a great choice for a narrator. He sounds like he may have been a smoker at one point -- which is important as Nick is constantly trying to quite smoking -- but his voice isn't so raspy I worry for his personal health.
    Just Terrific!
I rarely write reviews. I do so only when I think the book is terrific and want the author to know how much Iâve enjoyed their writing.

The shock that Minneapolis restaurateur Jane Lawless is in for when Chester Garrity, her ex-husband, returns to a city that he swore he'd never see again is nothing compared to Chester's own. After their divorce many years ago, he took off with his inheritance to travel the world, leaving Jane with enough seed money to open her first restaurant, which worked out well for Jane but less so for Chester.
Now he's back and penniless, or as he would prefer to say, between fortunes. He's working an angle to make his next one by selling a priceless artifact recently looted from the Baghdad Museum, but it all falls through when he wakes up next to the dead body of his buyer with no memory of what happened the night before. Panicked, Chester flees the scene, eventually returning to cover his tracks only to find that someone has already taken care of that for him, but at what price?
The Cruel Ever After, the newest Jane Lawless mystery from Lambda and Minnesota Book Award winning author Ellen Hart, is filled with the intrigue and deception that makes it one of the most engrossing series on shelves today.
    Editorial Reviews:
Perhaps if antiques dealer Chester Garrity mentioned to his ex-wife that he recently had woken next to a dead antiques buyer, but couldnt remember how it happened, events would have played out differently. Instead - and thanks to her ex-husband who is also "thoughtful" enough to offer advice on winning her back to an ex-girlfriend - Minneapolis restaurateur and amateur sleuth Jane Lawless finds herself wading once more through the darkness of human nature. Aimee Jolson gives voice to the study of human complexity in award-winning crime novelist Ellen Harts 18th Jane Lawless mystery.

    ELLEN WOW YOU ARE AMAZING!
Just outstanding!!!! When I thought your books couldn't get better they got me speechlessly in awe. WOW!
This Jane Lawless series I lose alot of sleep, I stayed up all night to finish this book and I had 6 chapters to go to finish I couldn't stop and the end made my mouth drop open.
Jane's husband made me so angry I wanted to beat his @#&.
Chester (Chess) is his name, that guy had the worst things go wrong from his stupid, not thought out schemes and has 6 people in danger and lied to them all until he was arrested and needed money to get out. "The boy cried wolf", No one believed him until Jane's ex-girlfriend got involved.
GIRLS you have to read this. Murder, disception, stupid plans gone wrong . You won't be DISAPPOINTED!
    Minnesota writer
I like mystery novels. Ellen Hart has a very interesting cast of characters that appear in her books. Her plots are intricate and absorbing. I also like the fact that she brings to life many familiar sites in the Twin Cities.
    Excellent, As Always!
Excellent as always; although much darker. I really believe this is the best book in the series, so far.
    Interesting plot
I'm an Ellen Hart fan. Her books have improved over the years and this was another plot filled with twists and turns.
    Enjoyable
I always enjoy the Jane Lawless series. The characters have rich lives. Jane is the perfect friend and sleuth. I do wish she had a more active love life.
