    Publisher's Summary:
Zack Sheldon doesn't have time to be lonely. He's in his last year as a pediatric resident, almost married to the job, and busy with the joys and sorrows that come with providing medical care to children. Professionally, he's confident, accomplished, and respected. But personally he's too insecure to approach a sexy man like Sergio Quartulli, or even to imagine that Sergio might be attracted to him.
Zack spots Sergio from across the gym, and then a chance meeting poolside somehow turns into a date. Before Zack knows it, they've become a couple, but Zack's white coat is his closet at the hospital, and committing to a relationship with Sergio makes it difficult for Zack to continue hiding behind it. On the other hand, he grew up in a small town where being gay was shameful, and he works in an environment that can sometimes be homophobic, so it's hard for him to open up about who he really is. Before Zack can make a choice on his own terms, circumstances force him to make a decision. He can continue to hide, or he can step out from behind his white coat and risk everything for love.

    I'm wondering why?
I'm actually in the middle of this book right now, and as I write a couple of outstanding review on other books, I find myself wondering why I'm still listening. The story vacillates between tender, intimate moments of self exploration and pages and pages of pedestrian, mundane and boring detail. Almost every moment of the protagonists' day is explored in detail, but when you finally arrive at the moment he and "the object of his affection" finally hit the sack, it's suddenly the next morning.
More gay fiction than romance, but good
In the first 25% of the book, the bulk of the narrative is setting up Zach. Hes a doctor. Hes insecure. He likes hot men.
The middle 50% is a little relationship building between Zach and his new lover, Sergio. He meets Sergio at the gym and then later the pool. Its a slow build the first date goes on for pages and pages but their banter is witty (if a little corny) and their coming together is sweet (the sex is fade to black essentially). There is a lot of Zachs professional world his bigoted supervisor, his friends, the kids he meets/treats, the medicine. Zach feels a lot of conflict because his social world is totally isolated from his professional one. While he is insecure socially, hes very secure professionally. This really represents his main dilemma.
The last 25% is the best part of the book. He and Sergio are falling in love and its really sweet. There is a come to jebus moment when Zach essentially denies Sergio and the two break up, but when he is essentially forced out of the closet in order to do the right thing, he realizes he has been hiding in there for no good reason.
In the last few pages we see a new Zach, hes friendly, open, honest and free to be in love and a good doctor.
    **
I think that this is a really, really good book in need of a good editor. Its too long. Its too involved (though the medicine is interesting, its distracting and pulls you from the love story). I almost want to label this gay fiction rather than gay romance. There is so much more about Zach evolving as a person, as a doctor and as a gay man and his interactions with Sergio are really just a piece of that puzzle.

    Pretty good gay-for-you!
    **3.5 stars**
"A little less conversation, a little more action."
Yup, that's what I'm talking about!
I LOVE a good GFY. Give me a guy whose never been with another guy or has never been into guys before and yadda, yadda, yadda ---> SEXY TIME, and I'm a happy girl! What can I say, I'm easy to please! I also usually adore lots of talking. I love characters to really get to know one another and establish a great connection before moving on to a relationship. But here, it was HOURS (in audiobook time) of talking, hours of self-discovery, and while I appreciate the effort that went into developing these characters, it sort of dragged at parts.
This book was certainly insta-attraction and, arguably, insta-love. The two MCs had a spark between them that really came through to the readers. I usually hate any sorts of "insta" in my romances, but it kind of worked here. I bought the idea that these two guys saw each other from across a crowded room (awww) and felt that "this is it" sensation.
I also loved the way that we got to know the characters. I really felt such a sense of connection to them, and I understood exactly where each of them were coming from.
Just a warning for some readers; there is very little sex content in this story. Sure, there are some scenes, but they are pretty sparse. If you are looking for something scorching hot, look elsewhere.
In terms of the audiobook narrator, I thought he did a decent job. There wasn't as much differentiation between the voices as I would have liked, and the narrator was pretty forgettable, but I was able to focus on the story and get into it. He had a pleasant voice that was easy to listen to, and while he won't make my list of favorite narrators, I would listen to a story from him again.
All in all, if you like slow-paced GFY with a good heaping of angst and lots of self-reflection, this story is for you!
**Copy provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review**
    very nice listen.
I really enjoy the story .narration was good. a bit too much wordy with in the story. ...but over all it great.
Just as good, if not better, than the e-book!
Where does Choices and Changes rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?

They say a man can always come home. So after doing hard time, Sage Redding heads to his family's northeast Texas ranch to help his ailing daddy with the cutting horses.
Adam (Win) Winchester is a county deputy and the cousin of one of the men killed in the incident that sent Sage to prison for almost a decade. While Win's uncles, Jim and Teddy, are determined to make Sage and the entire Redding family pay for their loss, Win just figures Sage has paid his dues and maybe needs a friend. Maybe he needs more than a friend. In fact, Win's counting on it.
No one's denying Sage is an ex-con who went to prison for manslaughter. Regardless of the love he has for his father, he's returned knowing things will likely go badly for him. Maybe a man can always come home, but he may not be able to stay.

    Terrible Narration
What would have made The Terms of Release better?
    A different Narrator.
If youve listened to books by BA Tortuga before, how does this one compare?
    I have not.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
By trying to voice the characters as John Wayne, Elvis Presley and Carson Kressley.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Terms of Release?
The pregnancy... the word babe and/or baby used more than 3 times each... Pocket Cowboy??????
    Any additional comments?
    2.5/5 stars...
You can always go home, but why would you want to when almost everyone considers you responsible for the death of one of their own? Sage Redding is called home to help his family on their Ranch when his father falls too ill to continue working with the horses. No sooner than he steps off the plane in Texas, the local sheriff makes it clear he has Sage in his sights. A decade spent in prison has not lessened the hate that is simmering in the hearts of the family that feel Sage took something from them.
Deputy Adam Winchester, Win, can understand the pain his family still holds on too, it was his cousin that died, but he doesnt think Sage is as responsible as he was punished for. Win does his best to keep his family at bay, but Sage is hurt by some people out for justice regardless. As the story progresss so does the relationship between Win and Sage, Win becomes very protective of his lover, but his family doesnt know when to quit. Add to that mother nature herself in the form of a very pissed off tornado, and the ability to keep Sage safe is literally jerked out of Wins hands.
I really enjoyed the storyline of the good boy gone bad, supposedly, but in actuality he is protecting the memory of his friend. Sage takes the blame for far more than he is responsible for and through it all, he keeps his dead friends memory clean. And I loved that Sages family stood up for him regardless, the controversy behind his conviction, his sexuality, the trouble that follows him everywhere, they just love him and support him.
Alas, there was so much going on within the spines of this story that at times I was confused, and the story itself felt rushed. This could easily have been split into two books with more attention paid to specific details in each installment. There were situations and words used repetitively in abundance which took away from the overall feeling of the story as well.
This was my first audio with Slate Anders and I wont be rushing to grab another one from him.

There came the splash of water and the rub of heels as Mrs Barber stepped into the tub. After that there was a silence, broken only by the occasional echoey plink of drips from the tap....
Frances had been picturing her lodgers in purely mercenary terms - as something like two great waddling shillings. But this, she thought, was what it really meant to have paying guests: this odd, unintimate proximity, this rather peeled-back moment, where the only thing between herself and a naked Mrs Barber was a few feet of kitchen and a thin scullery door. An image sprang into her head: that round flesh, crimsoning in the heat.
It is 1922, and London is tense. Ex-servicemen are disillusioned, the out-of-work and the hungry are demanding change. And in South London, in a genteel Camberwell villa, a large silent house now bereft of brothers, husband, and even servants, life is about to be transformed, as impoverished widow Mrs Wray and her spinster daughter, Frances, are obliged to take in lodgers.
For with the arrival of Lilian and Leonard Barber, a modern young couple of the 'clerk class', the routines of the house will be shaken up in unexpected ways. And as passions mount and frustration gathers, no one can foresee just how far-reaching, and how devastating, the disturbances will be.
This is vintage Sarah Waters: beautifully described with excruciating tension, real tenderness, believable characters, and surprises. It is above all a wonderful, compelling story.

To be a fly on the wall in 1922
If you could sum up The Paying Guests in three words, what would they be?
    moving, thrilling, suspensful
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Paying Guests?
So Many, the ashtray, the verdict
Have you listened to any of Juliet Stevensons other performances before? How does this one compare?
Started off OK, but the more i listened, i thought Juliet really brought the characters to life.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The desparation of francies and Lillan to be happy
    Any additional comments?
Started of a bit slow, But gradually it pulls you in. Sarah waters is just a great story teller.
    Started to re listen again.
    Fantastic
What made the experience of listening to The Paying Guests the most enjoyable?
Engaging, well written and wonderful characters.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Francis, she is a complex and interesting. Not predictable.
What about Juliet Stevensons performance did you like?
    Her energy and different characters.
If you could take any character from The Paying Guests out to dinner, who would it be and why?
    Francis
    Any additional comments?
    Excellent!
21 hours I will never recover
Made tragically boring by extreme length, introverted soul searching that took longer than real time and an array of seriously whiney and unattractive characters. I only continued to listen in the hopes of a last minute twist to the ending which, sadly, did not eventuate.
    Disappointing
What was most disappointing about Sarah Waterss story?
I loved all previous Sarah Waters books so I was shocked that this one was so dull, long winded and annoying.
    Keeps you engaged
A little repetitive in part but the story line is good and engaging. The ending is a tad abrupt. Overall I listened to this over several days while walking and the novel was a motivator in my setting out on my walks.

    Message in a bottle.
Somewhere in the cobwebbed cellar of the decrepit antebellum mansion known as Ballineen are the legendary Lee bottles - and Austin Gillespie is there to find them. The last thing on his mind is hot and heavy romance with handsome bad boy Jeff Brady. But Jeff has other ideas and, after one intoxicating night, so does Austin.
The only problem is they have different ideas. Jeff doesn't believe in love at first sight, and even if he did, he's buried more deeply in the closet than those famous missing bottles of vintage Madeira. Popping a cork or two is one thing. Popping the question? No way. No how.
Unless Austin is ready to give up on another dream, he's going to have to figure out how to make sure the lights go on - and stay on - in Georgia.
This novella contains scenes of gay erotic content.

    My Favorite Josh Lanyon book
Austin has a job he loves, and a chance to verify the existence of Lee wine, that would set his career for life, but death has a way of derailing his plans, and love seems to crawl into his heart by accident.
As I said in the headline - this story is my all around favorite JL book. All his books are exceptional, but this one touches me deeply - and I really can't tell you exactly why.
    Great story and perfect narration
If you could sum up A Vintage Affair in three words, what would they be?
Emotional love story and a satisfying mystery
What did you like best about this story?
The honesty of the love story, the description of the other odd Southern characters
    Which scene was your favorite?
    n/a
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Hard to relate this without giving the story away.
    Any additional comments?
Lanyon is one of my favourites, though the last few reads have been a little unsatisfying. This one did not. It has all the emotional intensity of the best of the Adrien English books. I only wish this were at least twice the length. I was left wanting a lot more. A great book.
Wow, just really not what I was expecting
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
It was okay, but I was still reeling from earlier in the book and it really didn't satisfy my need for the two mains to work out their problems. It just felt like they slapped a bandaid on a festering wound.
Was A Vintage Affair worth the listening time?
Ummm. I liked it at first, a lot. I liked the way Fleschner voiced the characters and did different accents, and he really brought the story to life, but the plot kind of killed it for me.
    Any additional comments?
I don't want to give away any spoilers, and I'm not sure if this counts, but the book contained some dub-con/non-con that really didn't sit right with me. It made me sick to my stomach, and sort of came out of left field, and really ruined the whole book for me. I couldn't get over it and I definitely won't be listening to this book again because of it, so that's really unfortunate.
Not my favorite, but its Josh Lanyon
If you are a wine lover, you might like this one more than I did. It is not a historic period piece like many of Mr. Lanyon's stories. It mostly takes place in a small southern town where a Master of Wine, MC1, travels to in search of some famous bottles of wine. While there, he discovers a body and a closeted private investigator, MC2. Murder mystery and romance ensues. It is pretty short, but as usual, Mr.

Lots of fun with a happy bonus epilogue
Brody is kind of a man slut. Hes looking for a relationship maybe but definitely not one with attached kids. So imagine his dismay when he begins to fall for the very stuffy and uptight Eric who comes with two kids in tow.
Just like the other books in this series there are lots of glimpses of what life is like in Gay Nirvana aka Provincetown.
Brody and Eric have a lot of hot sex but also some surprisingly sweet feels moments as well.
If youve been following along in the series, I think this one stands out as being one of the sweetest in the bunch. All of them have some pretty sticky HEAs (heh heh) but mix in some kids and the sweet is off the charts.
PS Theres a lovely epilogue that gives us a glimpse of everyones HEA from the previous books.
    Audio
The narrator TJ Jamieson aka Tristan James is a wonderful narrator. He is always easy to listen to , does the gay swishy voices fantastically, does female voices well and is always hot in smexy times.
I really enjoyed this series and this book in particular.
    4.5 of 5 stars
    My fav in the series!
    Any additional comments?
This is by far my favorite in the series. I enjoyed how Brody and Eric took the time to get to know each other even though the reasoning was based on misguided reasons. And Eric's little girl is hilarious!
And I'm guessing the author really loves the 80s because some character in his stories is always all 80s out.lol
The only thing I wasn't too keen on in this story was:the insta love, I lost so much respect for this story because insta love in romances feel false. It felt more like insta lust, rather than love to me. After that, the feeling of euphoria I felt for this story dissipated.
So, still my fav in the series.
    Fantastic
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
yes if they were looking for a book, with a solid story to make u laugh and cry and just get caught up with the story.

Robby Dalton is the perfect all-American boy. He played the sports his father chose for him in high school, attended the college his father selected, and has worked hard to conform to his father's macho views. But emotionally, he doesn't fit anywhere, and he can't connect with a woman beyond a few uninspired dates.
Robby's not in the closet, because he's never guessed he's gay. Now he owns a small commercial construction company, and one night after work, he runs into Savannah Meyers. He finds her fascinating and agrees to a date, thinking maybe this woman would be different.
But Savannah has her own agenda. She is looking for a love match for her roommate, Tristan Chartrand, whom she rescued from the streets years ago. He's like a brother, and her only family, so she wants him safe and happy. Her plan seems to begin well, because when Robby meets Tristan, he's surprised to find it's Tristan he wants, not Savannah.
But some people in Robby's life don't approve of Tristan's lowly station in life, and some don't approve of Robby being gay. Some people are full of hate and violence, and Robby and Tristan will need courage and strength if a loving future is to be part of the deal.

    *two thumbs up*
Wow A beautiful and deep book. As well as, well written and great narration. I was not expecting this book to be as good as it was. The storyline was not focused only on sex like many other romance novels but on the progression of the growing love and trust between Robby and Tristan.
The memorable moment in the book for me was when Robby finally stood-up to his father and told him he was gay and in love with Tristan. I thought it was a big moment because he was so fearful of his father's opinion of him his entire life.
And finally the narrator was great. I think his performance well represented the characters. Thankfully he did nothing to take away from the story or distract the listeners.
    A threesome, but not.
If you could sum up A Package Deal in three words, what would they be?
    Different, intriguing and raw.
What did you like best about this story?
The author taking on the challenge and writing a unknowingly closeted guy that has lived a straight life.
Have you listened to any of Sean Michael Hogans other performances before? How does this one compare?
This was my first. I wish he could capture a little more inflection and change in tones.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    Yes.
    Any additional comments?
Tristan Chartrand is shy, slightly introverted and nervous around strangers. He really only opens up to his best friend and roommate Savannah. When they were younger, Tristan and Savannah saved each other from some bad circumstances, and the two have been connected at the hip since. While they love each other and are very protective of each other, the connection isnt a romantic one. Savannah is determined to find someone that can love Tristan with all his faults, protect him and understand their relationship.
Robby Dalton lives a shell of a life under his fathers thumb. Everything he has ever done has been to impress the one man whom he is never good enough for. When he meets Savannah in a bar, hes intrigued and wants to spend more time getting to know her. Then he meets her roommate and is instantly enamoured with the beautiful young man.

His witty, conversational narrative transports us from the 1960s to the near present, from starkly erotic scenes in the back rooms of New York clubs to episodes of rarefied hilarity in the salons of Paris to moments of family truth in the American Midwest. Along the way, a breathtaking variety of personal connections - and near misses - slowly builds an awareness of the transformative power of genuine friendship, of love and loss, culminating in an indelible experience with a dying man. And as the flow of memory carries us across time, space and society, one man's magnificently realized story grows to encompass an entire generation.
Sublimely funny yet elegiac, full of unsparingly trenchant social observation yet infused with wisdom and a deeply felt compassion, The Farewell Symphony is a triumph of reflection and expressive elegance. It is also a stunning and wholly original panorama of gay life over the past thirty years - the crowning achievement of one of our finest writers.

    Cold
Cold is the best summary I can offer as one of his editors commented early on. The love felt cold, the sex felt cold, the thoughts felt cold. If there was any fun to the sex, it was tough to feel, often described like an autopsy with each organ duly noted, though there were some very nuanced (and wonderful) descriptions of various people and places. The supposed emphasis was a lost love, but there were only a few tears, not much more. I felt nothing for the romance. Also, it's another apologetic memoir about being gay if that's what you want to read (and I kept sensing self-loathing, sorry). It was more interesting in his, "A Boy's Own Story," (the far better book). No, not all gays are guilty and Rechy showed in City of the Night such a story doesn't need to be cold, or filled with so many ponderous words and concerns over the rich and famous you have to stop and take a breath as happened in this memoir for me. If there was any great gay theme, I didn't feel it. No love will conquer society, no gay is good (or bad), no gay helps us see more looking from the outside in, no fear of losing a job for being gay, no gay sex is fun, no AIDS brought out the best (or worst), and maybe why memoir isn't always as good as fiction. Life doesn't always give a theme. I finished rather exhausted, but without any more positive (or negative) feeling of the gay life. In fact, I ended with no feeling at all.
    Extraordinary!
Absolutely extraordinary! Fiction, memoir, apologia, confession, chronicle, biography all wrapped in one eidetic gay life.
