Lynda D. Brown offered free Kindle copies of the eBook and was able to get one on Kindle for PC.
She made it very clear that her book is not Christian Fiction; yet it is supernatural/paranormal novel with biblical-based content. When I started reading the prologue, she opened up with a similar story of Job, where Satan wanted to test this man of faith and upright character except it is a female persona (Abby) that Satan will see if she will change since she was only a child when she loved the Lord. Moreover, we see how the tricks of the enemy such as blinders, dabbling into New Age mysticism which is really the occult and witchcraft, and deception with manipulation to get us further from God. The reader sees the transitions of the enemy's tactics and Abby being led astray, will Abby pay?
This is book one of a series. I love the title too.
Side note: she is writing something similar to what God has called me to write except is entitled "The Guardian Watch" from the angelic/demonic perspectives as they relate/deal with humans. So blessed to read her take on this novel to also branch ideas in the future to write this supernatural thriller.
Although I chatted with author about some things a bit rushed and inconsistencies; I still loved the story and didn't underrate because of it. I cannot wait to read book 2 in the series!

    Just Know God ALWAYS Wins!
This was a wonderful story told by Ms. Brown! It is definitely a story that will make you look at people and life differently. It also let's you know (if you didn't already) that God is always on watch over his children, us believers. He is true to his word when he said he will never leave nor forsake you! Power in those words! As a Christian myself I do not always do the right thing and at one point in my life I too turned my back on God BUT he was there when I came running back with open arms!! That is what this story is about - the faithfulness, mercy and grace that only God obtains unconditionally! I absolutely loved this book and definitely was hard to put down. Put the devil under your feet where he belongs and only God can help you with that! WONDERFUL STORY!! Second book is Seed of Satan just released for digital download August 2011.
    Please, please, please READ!
Someone recommended that I check this title and Author out, and as I searched for it, I already had it in my e-library. I started it, and it grabbed me from the very beginning...

    Title: 40
    Author: Travis Thrasher
    Narrator: Urban Kelley
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 11 hrs and 47 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 02-14-13
    Publisher: Recorded Books
Ratings: 2 of 5 out of 2 votes
    Genres: Fiction, Religious & Inspirational
    Publisher's Summary:
The author of numerous works of fiction, Travis Thrasher is much heralded for creating flawed characters who struggle on their paths to redemption. In 40, freelance music producer Tyler Harrison is closing in on his 40th birthday. Suffering hallucinations as the big day approaches, he meets a man named Matthew, who claims to be an angel and tells Tyler he will soon die. Descending into self-destructive behavior and uncertainty about God, Tyler meets Ellis, an internationally famous DJ. But Ellis influence may be the last thing Tyler needs.
    Members Reviews:
    A thought-provoking novel
Travis Thrasher does not write your "typical" Christian Fiction. His characters are sometimes pretty rough around the edges. They are flawed; they are searching; they struggle with broken dreams and with their beliefs. I can relate to some trait a character has in every single Thrasher novel. It's one of the reasons I enjoy his books so much.
The main character, Tyler, is a Christian. A struggling, questioning believer who drinks and occasionally swears- but a Christian nonetheless. Tyler is visited by an angel and given the 'gift' of knowing when he is going to die. '40' chronicles the journey he takes over the next 9 months. Readers gain insight into Tyler's life- flashbacks to his childhood...regrets he has...relationships he currently has and wishes he had...other directions his life may have taken.
'40' is one of-if not THE-most thought-provoking novels I've ever read. It raised many questions: What if I knew when I was going to die? What would I regret? What would I do differently? How would that knowledge change my relationships with my family? with my friends? with God?
Yes, '40' is dark at times. Yes, there is occasional swearing. But there is also restoration and change and faith. Thrasher uses all those things to bring to life a complex, introspective character who could be just about any one of us. I highly recommend this book-it's one of my favorites.
    Wonderful storyline...But
I have so many thoughts about this book that I really am not sure where to start. Let me first say that this is the first Travis Thrasher book I have ever read, so I cannot say that it is the best or the worst book he has ever written. It is also the first book I have ever read that is written in first person, present tense point of view. I was a little worried about that at first because I have never been able to get into a book written in that style before, but Travis managed to expertly draw me in. I felt sometimes that the story was dragging, but the "what ifs" being posed made me want to keep reading. I thoroughly enjoyed the story itself, about a man who has managed to turn his back on God and live life his own way. But it turns out his own way hasn't been that great, and a few months after he turns 39 he is visited by an angel and told he won't live a day past his 40th birthday. I liked the way Travis posed the thoughts of guardian angels and what we have been protected from, and that if we could see what we had really been protected from it would scare us silly. I also liked the thought that no matter what our actions, however insignificant they may seem at the time, they may drastically alter the course of our lives.

Although the Tu-Grik-Ng, with the aid of Tobias and Ak-Malia, had succeeded in protecting their homes, Abahrazha faces an even greater peril. Kalor is now ruled by a madman, who vows to resurrect the ancient and powerful kingdom of Arcalia to exact his vengeance on all of Abahrazha. Yet the prophecies of a dying religion speak of this time when the fate of the world would rest in the hands of a child - one of royal blood and one who would be innocent of the destruction of Kalor.
Help, nevertheless, comes from unexpected sources and people. But nothing is ever as it seems, for the words of prophecy were written in the holy Merot - the sacred texts of the Brothers and Sisters of Paradise. The gods of power had forewarned many eons before.

    Kudos!
In this portion of the trilogy, the character development that some said was lacking in the first novel is more pronounced. However, the green sciences were missing in prominence in this novel. Can't wait until Child of Prophecy. Eat more wheaties.

The arrival of a new minister in Trumble offers many possibilities for the young women there, including the beautiful Emily, a shopkeeper's daughter who realizes he is the same man who has drifted through her dreams.
    Members Reviews:
With a new preacher visiting the area, Emily may have finally met the love of her life
Emily Walsh spends most of her time in service to others - either working in the family store or involved in the various church activities. Her nights she spends alone, dreaming of a man she's never seen. At twenty-four years of age, life has become dull and monotonous. Until now.
Noah Barton is a new minister visiting in Trumble. He's staying with the local reverend while he searches for a church and community to settle in. Noah's attractive, young and eligible. He draws the young women of the community to him, but Noah's only interested in the woman he'd met while out walking through the woods.
Emily is entering her thoughts into a diary when she admits to herself that her life is empty. She's afraid her whole life is going to be exactly the same. She'd once had a beau, he'd even spoken to her father about his intentions, but he'd died while abroad and no other suitor has ever compared to him. Emily has been in mourning for her mother for the past six months. Watching the other girls in their pretty dresses reminds Emily of the beautiful dress she'd purchased for herself before her mother's death. One Saturday while Emily's father is running the store Emily decides to forgo the mourning colors and wear her yellow dress for a walk to her special place in the woods. She's been reading for several minutes when a stranger finds her. It's the man she's seen in her dreams. His name is Noah Barton. Emily doesn't discover that he's a minister, and very popular with the girls of the community until she attends church. Emily has selflessly given of herself to everyone around her, but doesn't seem to think she's good enough for Noah. In addition to her already confused emotions, her father is pushing her to marry another man in the community who's looking for a mother for his children.
THE PATH TAKEN is a very sweet story centering around a small community and the people who live there. Gossip and speculation combine to cause Emily hurt and jealousy, possibly resulting in her losing the love of her life. D. K. Abbott did a beautiful job incorporating family secrets into the storyline that fascinated me and enables the reader to see the characters as real people with flaws and desires.

Award-winning author, composer, and lyricist Rayme Sciaroni shares the irresistible story of Jenny, a woman in her early 50s who receives such an invitation. Jenny is requested to invite anyone she chooses as well as a person she doesn't know very well to the momentous event. Story was wonderful...but narration was lacking
Would you consider the audio edition of Dinner for God to be better than the print version?
Unfortunately I would not consider the audio version of the book better than the print version. The audio would have benefitted greatly from having a professional do the narration. Someone like Susan Erikson or someone of her calibre would have made this a 5 star audio book. As it is it felt like the auther, who did the narration himself, was rushing through the reading and each character (most of whom were women) all had the same vocal tone. I really liked the story and the premise of the book but I was tempted at about 1/3 of the way through to just download the book on Kindle and read it myself. I did stick with it and listen to the audio book all the way through, but the experience of the story would have been much richer with a different narrator.
What did you like best about this story?
I loved the idea of the story and the characters
What didnt you like about Rayme Scarionis performance?
Unfortunately I didn't appreciate his performance very much at all.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
I don't think it needs a tag line. I believe that the title speaks volumes and asks a host of questions as well.
    Any additional comments?
Yes, I wanted to share this book with friends, but in all fairness I cannot recommend the audio version, so I went to Amazon and ordered 4 copies of the book.
    Oh My God! Borrrrring!
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Everything about this book was flat out annoying. The author's voice and speaking style was NOT at all pleasant. The story was boring and annoying. Story tries WAY too hard to be inspirational but is just shallow and lacks imagination and substance.

In the modern world the old traditions are declining - and so is attendance at Rabbi Teichmann's Friday-night sermon. But the rabbi has a plan to win back his congregation, and prove that real faith can embrace both the old and the new. Instigating a tradition that will grow beyond his expectations, the rabbi weaves a simple, entertaining tale around his listeners that resonates with meaning. Soon the rabbi finds that his congregants are not just talented listeners, and stories of universal experience and the meaning of life begin to take hold of both audience and reader alike.
    Members Reviews:
    A beautiful experience
We are drawn into the Jewish culture and Jewish history while being thoroughly entertained by compelling personal stories that go beyond culture and religion to touch us at a deep level with their universal themes. The stories are cleverly linked by the frame story of Rabbi Teichmann and his struggle to maintain, or more accurately, increase the dwindling number of attendees at his Friday evening sermons. The rabbi turns to the ancient tradition of oral storytelling and, not surprisingly, finds that this connects with his audience in a way that preaching cannot. Soon the members of his congregation surprise him with their own stories and he is able to reach them and get to know them in a way that he never thought possible. The stories create a community of listeners and the storytellers which also embraces the reader. I loved this book and am now reading it for the second time.

Having read "The Shack" I was excited to read Mr. Young's next book. And I have to say it does not disappoint. Although my only observation is as you reach chapter 2/3 the book slows a little but do bear with it as the story soon explodes. Excellent writing, really enjoyed the book

    Cross Roads WM Paul Young
Cross Roads takes you donw the path of the inner experience of life. It shows you memories stocked away, hidden but having their influence never the less. It brings you face to face with your deepest motives, drives and ambitions. On the other side it shows you the face of Jesus in a way you have never seen it before. It shows a way to turn from false beliefs in how life works, towards true life and the way one can live it fully. A remarcable tale...!!!
    Wow!
You could say I felt at a cross roads in my life. I found the book moving, enjoyable. Yes there were times it made feel sad - but at the same time I found it very uplifting and comforting.
I will listen to it again. A bit like The Shack, where you felt you needed to go over it again to check you hadn't missed any parts of the story.
    better than Eve
I think this would make a great film. I have seen the Shack yet but having read it, plus Eve and now Crossroads I think there's definitely potential here.

    Publisher's Summary:
Mary-Margaret O'Reilly is seemingly a harmless enough young woman, ready and willing to help out Father Diamond in the Sacred Heart church in Battersea. She may not be very bright, and she is sadly overweight, but she can certainly clean. She is also very good with children, and helps out an Asian woman on her estate whose little boy Shamso is adorable.
It is the statue of Jesus on the cross Mary-Margaret is especially drawn to, and one day she decides to give Him a thorough and loving cleansing. But then something strange happens, and moments later she lies unconscious, a great gash in her head, blood on the floor. Word gets out that this strange happening is the opening of the statue's eyes and the flowing of blood from its head. Soon a full-scale religious mania descends on the quiet church, and everyone, from Father Diamond to his small but loyal band of parishioners, is affected by it. When she has recovered, Mary-Margaret returns to the church, and to her duties caring for her housebound and even fatter mother Fidelma. Among the parishioners, Stella Morrison meanwhile impatiently awaits the return of her son Felix from boarding school, and Alice Armitage the return of her much older son from Afghanistan.
Mary-Margaret goes back obsessively to the statue of Jesus. He has told her things, things she must act on, and urgently. But He has become remote and uncommunicative once again, and she is in despair. The act she decides on is a shocking one, and it will bring together the lives of the O'Reillys and the Morrisons in a way that will change their lives forever.
Francesca Kay's second novel, after the prize-winning An Equal Stillness, is at once a profound meditation on the nature of faith and motherhood and a riveting story of passion gone tragically wrong.
    Critic Reviews:
"Poignancy, lyricism and elegant spiritual debate characterize this impressive if slender novel." (Dallas Morning News)
    Members Reviews:
"Nothing human was foreign to God.."
In only a little over 200 pages, author Francesca Kay manages to create what is easily one of the best books of the year...although it may pass under the radar. It shouldn't. The woman at the center of the book, Mary-Margaret O'Reilly, is seen as a simpleton by many who think they know her. But she is far from simple and those who seem to understand her are about to be shocked.
Mary-Margaret is a woman who is difficult to sum up. Her actions are fueled by one hope, that her world will be changed forever and she will find love. But first she has to succeed at an elaborate plan. Will her actions bring her the love she so desperately wants? And how were her own views on love affected by her mother's search for love, a woman who seems to feel lovemaking only in dreams? And Father Diamond, a man who worries that he has been too busy "gazing at his own soul to see into the souls of others"?
Mary-Margaret's yearning for love and the fulfillment of her faith is nearly palpable. She is not alone in her yearning. Love and grief are at the heart of this book, along with a wealth of surprises (even without the climactic event that shakes everyone to the core). There is also loneliness, the ultimate pain of "being human and alone" and yet for all the sadness it encompasses the book is not bleak. It is poignant and touching.

    Great book. Captivating!
This is the authors first fiction and she has done a great job. I don't usually do well with 'teaching' books which is what she usually writes, but since this is a 'fictional story' that is very well written it held my attention from the beginning and taught me at the same time. She has done a very good job at bringing the characters to life and drawing you in.
Based on history and the Bible, it starts with one man's search for the answer to the question: If God is so good, why do bad things happen? Why does evil win? And it ends with the realization that with God WE are the winners!
It gives you new a perspective on God's plan for us, the life and motivations of biblical characters like Satan and why does he do what he does, Eve in the garden, and Jesus's life on earth. I especially liked the idea of Jesus being 'taught by God', and the story of Jesus in the wilderness.
I couldn't put it down. This is one I'll read over and over again. Kudos to the author! I encourage you to get this book. Can't wait for it to come out in eBook.
    Five Stars
This is a great read and was hard to put down.
