Publisher's Summary:
I was reaching to turn off the light when I heard a knock at the front door. It was loud, especially for this late at night. I went over and looked through the curtain next to the double doors. Two men were standing at the top of the steps. They appeared to be paramedics. One was carrying what looked like medical toolkits. The other had a large clipboard in one hand and an oxygen tank in the other. I noticed an ambulance parked on the street in front of the house. I thought they must be lost, so I opened the door.
Professor Brent Wilkins was an intelligent man who didn't believe in God. So when two men claiming to be angels with a message sent from God appeared on his doorstep, he wasn't buying ituntil they took him on the road to truth. Michelle Wilkins was on a retreat, discouraged by her husband's years of rejection toward anything even remotely spiritual. On the verge of losing all hope, she was awakened in the night by a voice saying, 'Pray for your husband's heart.' As far as she knew, Brent's health was in perfect condition. But in only a few hours, she found herself in the hospital, staring at her unconscious husband with an unknown heart condition. Through their stories weave the mystery of what happened to Brent and Michelle's daughter, Drea, on a tragic missionary trip to Central Africa. Can Michelle find the faith to trust God with saving her husband's life? Will Brent put aside his anger to discover the truth? Is this truth worth dying for?

Family, miracles, angels, & an intellectual's journey from atheism to faith.
I just finished reading this book, and I know that this will be a book that I read again and give to others as gifts. I LOVED reading A Rebellious Heart, I loved the Christian truths woven into the story and I loved the way this book made me think. In books, movies, and TV shows, it frustrates me that even when Christians are portrayed positively, they are portrayed as having a faith that is based on emotion. Intelligent Christians that believe in God because the alternative is absurd BASED ON THE EVIDENCE are never portrayed. However, the main character in A Rebellious Heart is a professor, a man who prides himself in his intelligent dismissal of an illogical belief in God. His journey examines his beliefs, takes the reader on a journey to examine their own beliefs, and shows that faith in God IS intelligent and logical. If A Rebellious Heart were merely an examination of faith, it would be a great non-fiction book; however it is a good story, also. The author's heart for missionary work is evident throughout the book, the characters are well-developed, the story is fast paced, there is mystery, and the viewpoint of the angels in the story helped me see Biblical events through their eyes. I really enjoyed everything about this book, and it passed my personal test of a good book, parts of it had me in tears. Most of the time when I'm done reading fiction, I give little thought to it once I put it down, this is one book that will keep me thinking. Note: I found this book similar to "The Shack" by William P. Young in that they are both "this is my story" type of Christian fiction. However, I enjoyed A Rebellious Heart much more than I did "The Shack". I thoroughly enjoyed A Rebellious Heart and highly recommend it. Buy this book, it is VERY good.
