thank you for getting this to me
Better than a lot of Fear Street books.
The upside is that the ending on THE THRILL CLUB didnât come out of nowhere. The downside is that itâs still a typical Fear Street book with characters that are generally crappy to each other and are overall callous (at best) about the welfare of each other.
THE THRILL CLUB is about a club of teenagers who read scary stories to each other. Thatâs a club I could get behind. What Iâm not so thrilled with is that Talia uses her club mates as fodder in her gruesome stories. Luckily no one else is really on board with this tactic either and they tell her so. Add in that the deaths in her stories are coming true and she definitely loses her popularity over the course of the story.
Thereâs some significant other-swapping going on in the club because I guess thatâs what teenagers do. This general s*** behavior thatâs just standard in Fear Street books is really starting to annoy me. Theyâre all antagonistic toward each other, they steal each othersâ significant others, they actively wish harm on each other. Itâs such a huge departure from how real human beings react that Iâm glad this little Summer of Cheese deal is almost over because these are getting really bad. Sure, itâs melodrama but itâs not even melodrama that I can believe. Theyâre just crappy characters, not good characters making poor choices.
As for the story I found it better-plotted than the others Iâve read. The seed for the ending is actually planted fairly early on in the book and the foreshadowing is dropped throughout the story. So by the time the big reveal is made I donât have whiplash. This doesnât happen too often with Fear Street books so itâs a nice departure from the bad to get something that looks like it had some thought put into it and is actually decently crafted, at least from the plotting perspective.
Considering the concept is fairly creepy and the story itself was pretty decently put together Iâd rank THE THRILL CLUB in among some of the better Fear Street books. Crappy characters are still crappy but at this point thatâs to be expected. It would surprise me if they didnât suck.

very stupid. The reasons the villain did what they did ...
The ending and motive for the reveal on who the villain is is very, very stupid. The reasons the villain did what they did was very childish and could've been easily avoided if them and another character actually talked, or, simply said 'No, I dont want to do this, leave me be."
I dont know, i guess it's because ive been reading horror stories with motives that come close to this kind of plot, but executed better.
Predictable plot...
The book is about a club which consisted of 5 teenagers, and the club's name was... very obviously, the Thrill Club! Well, the club was actually formed for its members to share some spooky moments together.
