    Sweet Story for Little Ones
If you could sum up Sophie's Snail in three words, what would they be?
    sweet, caring, relatable
What did you like best about this story?
Each of the six chapters is a different story (loosely related to the others) about a 4 year old girl who loves animals (even woodlice). My kids (ages 5, 5, and 3) could relate to her character. What I like best about the book is that it is wholesome fun.
    Book one! And precious!
Would you listen to Sophie's Snail again? Why?
Sophie has been introduced and there is a whole series from age 5 to age 7. She is smart as a whip and incredibly silly! She has mixed up words and she gets involved in all things 'animal'.
I live Sophie! She is most of us as little girls. She is so determined to be a Lady Farmer that one can't imagine any other result for Sophie's grown up years. She is brilliant!
    Plan to giggle and giggle!
Audible? Could you put these books in a series for us readers? It sure would help!
What was one of the most memorable moments of Sophie's Snail?
'And I'll have a small patch of corn.'
    'Corn?! What for?'
'For cornflakes! What's wrong with you? Don't they teach you anything?'
    Delightful Story
What a treasure Trove of listening delights in the entire series of Sophie Stories by the incomparable Dick King Smith, writer of childrens stories.
Each story when read brings you to such a wonderful feel good conclusion of this special little girl Sophie, who is so determined, with hair that looks like she has been through a hedge row backwards. And her entire family including her beloved Octogenarian Aunt Al who lives in the Highlands of Scotland on a most desired farm!(with PONIES of course.)
You and your kiddiewinkies are in for a real treat when you listen to the wonderful heart warming stories, read by Bernard Cribbens who has that special voice that puts us all at ease. Just curl up with the children and listen with them, you wont want to miss a single word.
    loved these books for years
still in love with these books. wounderful concept of dreams coming true. in a real setting
    love it
I,ve always loved this story now my daughter does too x the determination and kind natured Sophie is inspirational to the next generation of lady farmers.

    Critic Reviews:
"With a brisk pace and pleasant, natural style, O'Malley's voice makes a good match for Anne's sweet-natured temperament and higher energy....O'Malley gives the many narrative passages, and Anne's parts, a lively quality, while setting an overall tone of nostalgia to match the story." A Treat!
I loved reading Anne's books many, many years ago. Such a treat to find them on audio with a wonderful narrator. I've enjoyed several of Susan O'Malley's narrations and this was a joy to listen to. I've going to be listening to the rest of Anne's tales.
The narrator ruined it for me
I could only listen for the first 30 minutes, that's how bad the narrator was.
    Great read
Loved this book for many years. This narration did not disappoint. I laughed, I cried! Love Anne!
    Heartfelt enjoyment
5 stars for the warmth it brings to my heart and for the enjoyment of a simpler, more loving time.
    not as charming
I have listened to the 1st book in the series with great pleasure. It was charming and enchanting. However, as the heroine grows up, in this the 2nd part, the book loses a great portion of its magic. The first part has the power to captivate the hearts and imagination of children and adults alike. The sequel does not have the same universal appeal and belongs in the realm of teenage fiction, that some (including myself) may found predictable, boring, platitudinous. While I would enthusiastically recommend the first book to a reader of any age, I think only my 12-year-old niece might be interested in the second.
That said, it is still very good writing - sparkling style and precise language. The narrator is great.

    Title: Ghostly Tales of Japan
    Author: Rafe Martin
    Narrator: Rafe Martin
    Format: Original Recording
Length: 1 hr and 14 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 12-16-99
    Publisher: Yellow Moon Press
Ratings: 3 of 5 out of 22 votes
    Genres: Kids, Ages 8-10
    Publisher's Summary:
Full of eerie elegance and the underlying mysterious spirit of Japanese culture, these four Japanese ghost stories are performed by award-winning author and storyteller Rafe Martin in his engaging and inimitable style. The collection begins with "The Boy Who Drew Cats", a tale about the power of faith in one's own creativity, and continues with "Kogi", a dream vision in which the listener becomes a whale. The other two stories are "Urashima Taro", a story about a character we might know better as Rip Van Winkle, and "Ho-ichi the Earless", a truly classic hero's adventure story.
    Critic Reviews:
"Rafe Martin's convincing delivery and excellent timing cast listeners under the spell of Japan in these four unusual tales." (Booklist)
    Members Reviews:
    Great stories...
The stories are great, and even his way of telling it is fine (perfect for very young children, humorous for the rest of us). Sadly, the music in the background gets way too loud at points, and I had to listen again to try to make out the words of the tale over the sounds. Much as I love the tales, I wouldn't recommend this audiobook.
    OK, but...
...I think Rafe Martin's way of performing is too exagerrated, even for his target audience children. Wouldn't really recommend it.
    Way Too Exagerated For Me
First the good part, the stories were lovely and well written. This is one audiobook I wish I had read and not listened to. Even if it was meant for children, I think it was meant more as a play and not something you can listen to without the occupying ridiculous gestures. With those exaggerated gestures to go with his over the top tones it would have been charming. But with just his voice shrieking in my ear I was distracted and agitated. Also the beginning and ending of almost every story was lost in the music, which was also distracting. In the end I think it is the wrong recording for an audiobook, but I would take children to see it on stage.
    scary stories great for kids
I really enjoyed the stories and the performance but the music that introduced each new story was way to loud and drowned out the narrator's voice.
    The Stories are good but...
If you could sum up Ghostly Tales of Japan in three words, what would they be?
    interesting Ancient haunting
What other book might you compare Ghostly Tales of Japan to and why?
Chinese Tales, In Ghostly Japan and early Poe's work.
The work is worn and rough in places. This might be do to the retelling of tails. They are good though and can compare with Poe when he was starting. Their is no intense moments with blood every wear, but a good ghost/mild horror story.
The stories are in the same vain as Chinese Tales and In Ghostly Japan. Slow and with a warning to look out for Yokai everywhere (The ever present all is not as it seems tails.)
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Rafe Martin?
    Any one
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
    In the shadows they leark
    Any additional comments?
The Tales are good and can stand the test of time. While some are transparent others are not. The use of the background music is atrocious it covers the start of the story so you can not hear it as well as the ends. If you are interested in this kind of story from the region it is worth listing to.

    Publisher's Summary:
Dylan Rudee's life is an epic fail. He's bullied at school and the aunt who has raised him since he was orphaned as a child just lost her job and their apartment. Dylan's one chance to help his family is the only thing he's good at: video games. The multibillion-dollar company Mee Corp. has announced a televised tournament to find the Game-Changers: the 44 kids who are the best in the world at playing Xamaica, a role-playing fantasy game that's sweeping the planet. If Dylan can win the top prize, he just might be able to change his life.
It turns out that Dylan is the greatest gamer anyone has ever seen, and his skills unlock a real-life fantasy world inside the game. Now actual monsters are trying to kill him, and he is swept up into an adventure along with his too-tall genius sister Emma; his hacker best friend, Eli; and Ines Mee, the privileged daughter of Mee Corp.'s mysterious CEO and chief inventor. Along the way they encounter Nestuh, a giant spider who can spin a story but not a web; Baron Zonip, a hummingbird king who rules a wildly wealthy treetop kingdom; and an enchantress named Nanni who, with her shadow army, may be bent on conquering Xamaica and stealing its magic.
In order to save his sister and his friends, Dylan must solve a dangerous mystery in three days and uncover secrets about Xamaica, his family, and himself. But will he discover his hidden powers before two worlds - Xamaica and Earth - are completely destroyed?

Action-Packed Fantasy Thriller for Video Game Lovers of All Ages!
I initially bought "Game World" for my 11-year old son who loves to play video games, but who's not so keen on reading. I was hoping a book about a gamer would pique his interest and it did the trick. He absolutely loved this book and actually thanked me for getting it for him!
My son identified with the book's middle schooler hero, Dylan, and really got into the adventure thriller storyline. As a parent, I appreciated how the book intelligently weaves in cultural reference, history, and fantasy into the plot. I also liked that it had morally conscientious protagonists in the characters of Dylan, Ines, and Eli.
The cover and each chapter of the book have awe-inspiring illustrations that tie in beautifully with the plot.
This book is a "must read" for anyone 10 or older. I hope there will be a sequel and there will be a "Game World" series/franchise like "Harry Potter".
    Cute but a bit derivative
Game World as a whole is a new take on the now-classic "kid enters a fantasy world and finds that he's the Chosen One destined to save it." I enjoyed the Jamaican spin on this book and the racially/ethnically diverse main characters. However, the author's writing style was a bit clunky, the plot progressed without any major surprises, and the author didn't go deeply enough into the cultures and characters of the Jamaican myths to really bring them to light in the way I had hoped he would.
    Disappointing
Very disappointed in the book. The premise sounded like the perfect book for my 6th grade grandson and I to read "together" (miles apart) and talk about--but we always ended up saying we had to re-read things to remember who was who and what was what. We finally decided that summer was too short to read a book that was not very enjoyable.
