MY DAUGHTER LOVES THESE BOOKS! I support African-American culture within my household every chance I get. They do not push these types of books in my daughters school for reading so I opted to get these and plenty others. Got these in the mail with Amazon Prime and when my daughter opened them, she was excited from merely looking at the cover in itself! Will definitely support this author again!

This Story Sure to Touch Your Heart

Chancey of the Maury River by Gigi Amateau is pure delight! Written in the voice of the horse, the story reminds me of a contemporary Black Beauty tale.

Chancey, an Appaloosa by blood, is born an albino and therefore not accepted by man or beast. His stoic personality helps him persevere even after his dam dies when he's a youngster. He is trained and has his work at the stable until the owner's husband dies and the woman needs to sell everything. Alas, Chancey is not wanted due to his coloring and he left alone in a field to fend for himself.

Fortunately, a kind stable owner brings him to her stable and there Chancey bonds with a young girl named Claire; both need each other and heal each other. They become close friends as they train together, ride the trails and compete at horse shows.

When Chancey physically cannot jump any longer due to joint and blindness issues, he finds a second career as a therapy horse at the same stable, with Claire and her mother assisting in the program. Some of the riders' issue are apparent and others are invisible to the eye, but all benefit from the riding therapy.

Chancey is soon matched with a sick boy who, at first, does not want anything to do with horses. Claire soon convinces him to try riding Chancey and the three form a special bond.

The emotional scenes are well written and the point of view of the horse draws in the reader right away.

A "Must Read" for any horse lover!

Chancey and the Maury River is a great book for readers into books that are about trust,friendship,adventure and strength.The message that the book sends is that even if you have a disease or a disability that you can do whatever you want to do because you are the same as anyone else and not every horse or pony has to see to be a good friend or a great lesson pony.This was one of my favorite books to read and I think this book will inspire other kids around the globe to try something new every day.

I love all of the Boxcar Children Mysteries. The author, Gertrude Chandler Warner, writes in a way so that when you are reading each of these chapter books you actually feel like you are right there in the story. Great author, great books.

It is such a great book to my little girl.My little girl just loves it.It's way too great for her.

The Aldens and Mrs. McGregor on vacation together

As the book opens, Mrs. McGregor is not feeling like herself. So the Alden children, Henry, Jessie, Violet & Benny tried to cheer her up. Mrs, McGregor's child home might be sold, which I guess it's supposed to be an inn. Mrs. McGregor's sister lives there. In fact, Mrs. McGregor had a mystery lady visited her at her house when she was a child. But Mrs. McGregor nevered find out her name.

The children's grandfather droves them and Mrs. McGregor to her house. Mrs. McGregor's sister doesn't believe that there is a treasure in the house. Her name is Madeline. Benny had remembered in the car that he forgot a book called The Alphabet Mystery by his favorite author Amelia Quigley Adams. It turns out that Mrs. McGregor was aslo a Amelia Quigley Adams fan. And has her books at the crooked house (Mrs. McGregor's house). There is a guest that is staying there too but she isn't very nice. But the Alden children didn't think they would find a mystery. This is a must read for Boxcar Children fans.

Great overview of a less-known series of conflicts

This is the first in this history series I have listened to, but I'm impressed. My husband and I listened to this in the car with our 16 year old. We all really liked it and learned a lot. I believe it is aimed at high schoolers, but the adults enjoyed it just as well. It held all of our interest, and we all thought it was a good level of detail.

The subject is very interesting -- it can be argued that without these war(s), George Washington wouldn't have come to prominence, or the American colonies thought of seeking their independence from Britain.

The narrator was quite good and held our interest without stealing the show.

An Excellent Overview of the Time Period

A very informative presentation of the period from 1660 to 1763. After listening, I have a much better understanding of the domestic and foreign forces that led to our eventual independence from England. I look forward to listening to other books in this series.

Another fun story by Ibbotson

Eva Ibbotson has a real talent at getting inside the minds of her characters. I have enjoyed all of her books, those for young readers and also those for older readers.

This book tells the story of a young boy who wants a dog of his own more than anything. His selfish parents don't want to be bothered with a dog, but for his birthday allow him to choose a dog, but from a pet RENTAL business, and without telling the boy it was a "loaner dog". The boy and dog bond, then are dismayed when the separation comes.

The bulk of the story tells of the efforts taken by both of this pair to ensure they can live out their lives together. Heartwarming.

This is one of my favorite books, audio ruins it.

This has been one of my favorite books for years! I literally had to stop listening to the audio book because it was destroying the version of it I had in my head! I know that sounds like just my opinion, but the woman reading it sounds so old, and turned it from a fun loving book about a strong teenage girl, into a stiff story about harsh characters. I hated every choice the woman reading it made.

GREAT Fantasy Trilogy

What made the experience of listening to The Hollow Kingdom the most enjoyable?

The Hollow Kingdom is the first in a trilogy that has become my absolute favorite fantasy series. The characters are appealing and the plot is riveting.

What did you like best about this story?

The evolution of Marak and Kate's relationship is one of the best parts of the book.

Which character as performed by Jenny Sterlin was your favorite?

Marak is the goblin king. While ostensibly ugly, Marak appeals to the audience through his sense of humor and love for his people.

This book keeps you riveted from beginning to end. Be sure to read the rest of the series; it only gets more interesting! Jenny Sterlin does a fantastic job of narrating this book. I sincerely hope that she will narrate the rest of the series!
