Charming stories of lgrowing up in the South

I have a really good friend who is from the South and I have always loved her stories of growing up in Alabama. It amazes me how her accent comes back full steam whenever she meets someone from the same area. So when I saw this title I knew I wanted to read it.

Most of the stories are simple anecdotes of memories growing up, stories the authors' grand mother told them when they were little, the complications of having a rude neighbor, going to school, dating, children, etc. Most of them made me at least smile and some made me laugh out loud. It reminded me of reading the short stories at the end of articles in the Reader's Digest but longer (and that's the part of RD I always read first.) This would be a great book to take to dentist and doctor offices to read while waiting for appointments. It might help you forget where you are. LOL

Just an ok book. Way too many adjectives that took away interest from the stories. Authors seemed to use grandiose descriptions for an otherwise moderately interesting story. Thus didn't work for me.

Chuckles and belly laughs!

Excellent writing team! If you are from the rural south you will relate to the stories! If not, you need to read the "Southern Fried Fix" to round out your education and have a good laugh!

What's so funny?

The stories in this book were "cute", at best! Considering that this book was described as "25 FUNNY Stories of a Southern family", I was quite disappointed!!

I laughed out loud in places and really enjoyed getting to know a little more about these Southern ...

Hilarious!

What made the experience of listening to Fart Knowledge the most enjoyable?

The whole audiobook was just hilarious, I never imagined there would be so much to say about farts.

I've never listened to anything like it!

What about Phillip J Mathers performance did you like?

Phillip J. Mather has such a serious voice that hearing him narrate this audiobook on a potentially embarrassing subject really makes it even funnier.

Any additional comments?

Having had a teenage son I KNOW that teenagers and 'grown-ups' with the same mentality will find this audiobook SO funny!

On a serious note though - there is an awful lot of information in it (snigger).

The Office Book

The Office Zoo: A Field Guide to Office Animal Observation is funny. There it is, it is funny. Here is the problem: It thinks it is MORE funny then i do! Ruby Allure is trying to hard to be honest. So this is funny, but not T 5 star funny, a really hard 4,4 funny book. Ray McCurdy is reading this funny, and i really don't think the book would be as good without Ray McCurdy voice work. 3 hrs and 38 mins is more or less the perfect tome to havethis book, but it could maybe be even shorter!

Ill try to write this without spoilers or going too long winded, but the basic gist of this review is: If you are a fan of humour with a generous helping of wit and youve ever worked in an office, you will like listening to this!

Boy, its a jungle out there. If only there was a field guide with the helpful hints, tips, and general dont get yourself eaten accidentally advice that could help us navigate it allwell this might just be it! Office zoo reads like a Nat Geo guide or a safari special, but on the study of a species of 'animals' that you don't need to travel outside of your city to see in their natural habitat (yay!).

The book reads from point of view of an explorer, which added to the experience and immersion into the guide. The authors tone was to me perfect for the subject matter. It took me a moment to get used to the narrators voice, but once I settled in I realized it was actually a good choice. The narrator reminded me so much of animal nature guide narrators, and that definitely put my brain right in the action, and I had no trouble visualizing the office beings that the author was so helpfully describing.

Despite it being in the humour category, there were quite a number of valuable lessons presented, albeit some slightly over emphasized - the better for us to recognize and work to correct them. If only all company welcome packages included certain snippets of this with the avalanche of company policies - if not only to show that humour is not dead in the office world, but so that people would have a much more enjoyable (and more memorable) reminder to be aware of how they engage with others in the office. We spend so much of our lives in offices (unless you are an actual safari guide, professional base jumper, or something equally office-free), a guide is definitely needed.

There are some characters that were rather harshly covered, but these are made in lemme tell it to you straight tone, so it fit with the narrative of the book.

From an old (formerly) Lonely Guy

This is a simply wonderful book - and the Slightly Older Guy is too - wry, amusing and touching. I love the books of Bruce Jay Friedman (who must be an Older Guy by now) and am always telling people to read him. But, here's the catch, in the UK he's not published (or so I believe). How come? His books - going way back - are great and he is one of America's treasures. Perhaps someone can explain....

It's been a year since their last outing. Brian, Ethel, and Father Frederick are back with more village idiocy.

Frederick has injured his nipples in a vicious moped accident while on his honeymoon, and he no longer feels like a man. He's taken up the drink again, and is making people's lives a misery with his antics. He can't work out why strange men keep following him while he's out drunk-driving, though.

Brian's concentrating on getting through married life while trying to find a hobby that doesn't hurt. His cousin Jeff, from The Office Idiot Reviews, has moved in for the summer and is on hand to help Brian with his assertiveness when he is bullied by the local biker, Jock.

I have read two other books by this author, both of which at times were very very funny.

This book was not.

Despite being written in a review style and each snippet being only minutes long, not one single excerpt was in any way amusing.

Not one.

I persevered because the book was short and surely one review must be funny.

I was wrong.

Truly awful, please don't purchase.
