Bring history back to life through Jim Hodges' historically accurate, exciting, and edifying audio recordings.
    R. M. Ballantyne, a devout Christian and outspoken advocate for Christian boyhood, changed the lives of hundreds of thousands with his globe-trekking adventure stories that emphasized Christian character in the face of adversity. In The Coral Island, three Christian boys, shipwrecked in the South Pacific, rely on godly wisdom, biblical insight, and plucky courage to outwit and overcome pirates and cannibals.

Wonderful adolescent book of being shipwrecked
A wonderful five-star book for middle school boys - adventure, courage, coming of age, and delight in creation. As an adult, I could clearly see the author's intent to provide the characters with innocence and wonder. But the work is too enchanting for adult reading. It is a nice addition the Sea-faring genre of "Treasure Island", "Swiss Family Robinson", and "Robinson Crusoe". Easy to read and engrossing for the young mind and young at heart. It is written for the adolescent. I gave it three stars because it lacks the reality one would truly experience in this adversity. "Mutiny on the Bounty" and books of actual shipwreck accounts are much more darker.
    Boyhood favourite
This book remained in my memory as one of the best books I had ever read as a young boy. As a much older adult by about 50 years I was a little disappointed. Maybe my expectations were too high but then again perhaps surprise surprise my taste may have changed. An almost Enid Blyton style "Famous Five" approach to a serious dilemma with lashings of lemonade or in this case coconut juice. Romantically portrayed British pluck, honour and chivalry. If only I could believe it now like I did when I was 10.
    Great book!
Great book from Ballantyne. And nice Kindle price (free!) Story has a good plot, lots of detail and accurate information. You learn about survival skills / science. My son said it's similar in ways to "The Mysterious Island" by Jules Verne but not as long.
Easy and fun read of a past era.
The book was a fun read, a cross between Robinson Caruso and Mysterious Island. The adventures of the 3 young English boys was interesting to read and great for vacation. Although their attitudes towards the natives now is considered politically incorrect, their light heartiness and naivety was refreshing. This book is great for those who like to read books from a different time period and want an easy read for vacation.
Ballantyne has a great vocabulary and writes with a poetic manner
Not a big fan of this type of literature. Very Hemingway-ish. Ballantyne has a great vocabulary and writes with a poetic manner, but in the end I was still... bored. I apologize to any fans I've offended. You know what they say, "That's why they make chocolate and vanilla ice cream." - old Abuelo proverb.

The Dragon looked through the window, its lips dripping with drool. She was becoming more its play-thing every day and she did not even know it. Wynne took one last look at the flat where her dreams with her husband, Vaughan, and her small son, Caedmon, were to have come true. "This is not my fault," she told herself. Stiffening her back she took her son's hand and left her husband's home. She did not look back again.
The Dragon spread its wings and flew off in the direction it knew the young woman was taking her son. Fatherlessness that was its goal and it had accomplished it once again. The small boy must never know of the unseen Lord's love. It would make sure of that.

Great voice work, story a bit hard to follow
I found the voice work to be excellent. Smooth and fluid, the reader enunciated clearly and used intonation and inflection to bring the text to life. I found the actual story narrative-the stringing together of descriptions and plot points to be hard to follow-but that had mostly to do with how the phrases were put together and the choice of words used to build images.
A new spiritual allegory in the vein of Pilgrims Progress
Dream was an interesting allegory of the spiritual journey many of us are on. The characters are lovable and relatable. By the end of the book I was listening with anticipation for the final battle. The performance by Campbell are amazing and really bring this book to life. There are some very emotional parts which come across to the listener in a meaning full way.

    Publisher's Summary:
In this gripping conclusion to The Alliance, nearly six months have passed since Leora Ebersole's Old Order Mennonite community fled to the mountains for refuge after an attack destroyed the region's power grid and altered life as they knew it. Since then Leora has watched and waited for news of Moses Hughes, the young Englischer pilot who held off invading looters long enough for everyone to escape. Unsure Moses even survived, Leora has begun to warm to the affections of Jabil Synder, who has courted her patiently. But she struggles to see herself as the new bishop's wife, especially when she learns that Moses is alive and has now joined a local militia.
An unexpected encounter in the woods deepens Leora's crisis, as does a terrifying new threat that brings Moses's militia into the community's shaky alliance with the few Englischers left among them. When long-held beliefs are once again put to the test, Leora wrestles with the divide between having faith and taking action. Just how much will her shifting landscape change her?

    After the EMP...
The Divide is the second in this series by Jolina Petersheim, and is a page turner. Will Leora choose Jabil, tried and true, or Moses, the uknown rebel? As I read toward the end I began to realize their world would not, could not, return to normal in the few pages that are left. I hope there is another book coming so I can find out what happens to the characters who are left.
    Compelling
Written so beautifully and in such detail. God's grace and humanities failings and growth are set out in an unorthodox story that pulls you in with every page.
    A Refreshing 2 books!
Excellent book as was the other bk ....read the alliance first. No smut in this book....clean writing u can trust. Keeps u turning pages!
    Powerful
A thought provoking page turner. Highly recommend. Well developed characters and strong plot. This is a novel well worth reading.
    Enjoyable listening

    Not worth it
What could have been a sweet, senior love story turned into a poorly executed disappointment. It's utterly impossible to believe a couple could be married as long as Jack and Debbie, and he never told her what really happened with Maryanne. It's just not believable, and with Cotton's clunky writing style, I'm glad I downloaded this when it was free.
No matter what age we all feel loved.
I loved this book. Though it was sad the ending made me smile. At first I was unsure if I would like it but I was happily surprised.

    Publisher's Summary:
Anti-conspiratorialist author and lecturer Chasen Derrick has landed a lucrative but highly suspect teaching post at the exclusive Dysart Academy in Southern California. When the dean of students asks him to lead a field trip to England, Chasen reluctantly agrees, and the first few days of the tour go smoothly.
That is, until the mass abduction. The fire. The shootings. And the medieval torture.
Now the FBI, Scotland Yard, MI5, and a 500-year-old secret group known as the Apollo Society are searching the country for Chasen and the only student he's managed to hold on to: a kid as challenging and obnoxious as King Henry VIII himself.
With a debilitating case of OCD and a panic disorder that threatens to flare up around every British memorial, Chasen is forced to confront his beliefs about conspiracy theories...and his skewed understanding of guilt and forgiveness.
Propelled by plot twists and fast-paced suspense, The Field Trip takes listeners on a humorous adventure exploring what is true in a world where things aren't always as they seem.

    Delightful
Would you consider the audio edition of The Field Trip to be better than the print version?
Having the narrator read with various accents certainly helps distinguish the characters. I'm not a big reader, so listening was the best option.
Who was your favorite character and why?
It was fascinating to see Eddie's character develop throughout the book.
Which character as performed by Wally Schrass was your favorite?
I enjoyed his performed of Coop. Good accent.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
    Conspiracy of Truth
    Any additional comments?
I don't generally read novels, but certainly glad I picked this one. The story line was consistently original and engaging.

Listened to this book to and from work in the car. Found myself sitting in my driveway more than once not wanting to turn it off. Entertaining. Clever. Hoping there's a sequel. Buy the book or audiobook, you won't be sorry.
Super first novel by Greg Elsasser.
Amazing story, full of intrigue and mystery. You really can't figure out the end until the end. Powerful message. Great job Greg! Look forward to your next book.
    Delightfully unexpected!
I enjoyed this from the opening to the closing. The characters are endearing, the story is great, and the message is even greater!

    Melanie runs away.
From conflict. From pain. From reality.
When novelist Melanie Vander faces a looming deadline, she decides it's time for an escape to an inspiring, novel-worthy locale. She's not running away. Really. She just needs time to focus. But as she disappears into her writing, she encounters a man whose tenderness leaves her reeling.

Waning finances, a looming home foreclosure, and a wife who's checked out emotionally have Craig feeling as though he's carrying his burdens alone. Two Roads Home Provides One Road to a Satisfactory Read on a Summer Afternoon.
Deborah Raney books have been an autoread for me for years. I am loving this new Chicory Inn series and the Whitman family. Deb's characterization is always spot on and almost as soon as you begin reading you feel as though you know the characters and care about them. This book is no different. Corrine Pennington, the oldest of the Whitman daughters, has always enjoyed being able to be a stay-at-home mom and live in a beautiful home because of husband Jesse's high paying job. When trouble strikes that threatens to turn her world on it's ear, she realized more than ever the trust issues she has.
The family may look like perfection to their neighbors, but within there are struggles with greed, pride and lust that have reared their ugly heads. The characters are real and how they face the evil that has penetrated their existence even as they have tried to avoid it is a lesson in faith and dependence on God to get through the crisis.
I can't wait for the next book in the series!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher for purpose of review, but I also purchased the Kindle edition. All opinions expressed are my own.

    Publisher's Summary:
Willie Nelson, country music's quintessential musician, displays all the wit and warmth of his homespun style of storytelling in an inspiring holiday novel based on his classic Christmas song, "Pretty Paper".
More than 50 years ago, Willie Nelson's beloved Christmas song, "Pretty Paper", first hit the airwaves. And for all these years, Willie has wondered about the real-life Texas street vendor, selling wrappings and ribbons, who inspired his song. Who was this poor soul? What did his painful trials say about our loves, our hopes, our dreams in this holiday season - and in the rest of our lives?
It's the early '60s, and Willie Nelson is down and out, barely eking out a living as a singer-songwriter. The week before Christmas, he spots a legless man on a cart, selling wares in front of Leonard's Department Store in Fort Worth, Texas. The humble figure, by the name of Vernon Clay, piques Willie's curiosity, but Vernon is stubbornly private and - despite Willie's charming queries - has no interest in telling his story. Willie is tenacious, though, and he eventually learns that Vernon is a fellow musician, a fine guitarist and singer.
When Vernon disappears, he leaves behind only a diary, which tells an epic tale of life-altering tragedies, broken hearts, and crooked record men, not to mention backroad honky-tonks, down-home cooking, and country songwriting genius. Deeply moved and spurred on by Vernon's pages, Willie aims to give the man one last shot at redemption and a chance to embody the holiday spirit.

THIS ONE WAS JUST RELEASED AND NOW I HAVE TO WAIT 3 MONTHS!!!!!!!
How can I stand it!!!!!! This one started where the last one stopped, and followed Mary Rachel and Caleb to Calif. Quite a trip it was!!!! They went backwards to New Orleans and then steamer from there. They changed conveyances at least a couple more times before arriving in San Francisco. The trade store the brother was running had been burned out and was being run out of a tent. Mary Rachel got in and used her fathers business skills to get the store running and soon transformed the place. In time, she was known as quite a business person....not just a woman, but as good and even better than most men!!! This story follows her adventures and misadventures in San Francisco and what roads her life takes. Such an awesome read, as are the other books in the series. Each book can stand alone, but is so much better as part of a series. Yeah u won't be sorry you read it!!! It shows a good, but ungodly man crying out for salvation and then allowing himself to be so lead of God!!! What an inspiration this series is!!!!! C:o)
Clean Christian Roman plus far more
Very Well Written. Yes there is talk of whores, wrongdoings, etc. BUT there was no scenes that described sex acts - This was a story about how LIFE back then was probably like -even though this is fiction, who knows whether a lot of this actually happened, if not to the same people who knew one another but various other people.
----As for there being whores, etc. mentioned in this story - How many times do people today talk to these same type people - including those who are in your church who commit adultery or fornication as well as the gossips within your church.
-- This story had a lot of twists & turns that occurred to the main female -which is not surprising because she was so young, thinking her boyfriend really loved her & felt she knew better than her father. - As for some stating that she acted with no common sense, well she was rather young now wasn't she. ---- This was the type story maybe someone heard from an ancestor & you would want their story(s) written in a book (just like this one was) - This is definitely a clean Christian book (unless you are a prude & can not stand reading that a male went to a whorehouse or a female became pregnant out of wedlock - even though the act or acts was never described in the book)
and I enjoy her solid research and adventurous stories
Followed all Caryl's books in the series. She was a new author for me, and I enjoy her solid research and adventurous stories.

To get to the girl he loves, Riley Kane must head off on a road trip with the father he never knew. Then pray for a miracle.
Most teens would love to have a pro surfer for a dad. Just not Riley. Abandoned as a kid, he hates the sound of the ocean and the man who gave himself to it. When the 18-year-old learns that his best friend is stranded at a New Mexico hospital as her father fights for his life, Riley hits the highway to head east. But when his Jeep breaks down before he even leaves California, he must rely on the one man he despises to get to the girl who needs him the most. And when it comes to the surfer with the Volkswagen van and dog-eared map, a thousand miles may - or may not - be enough to heal the past.
A story of new beginnings and second chances.
    Members Reviews:
    SUCH a sweet story.
SUCH a sweet story. Oh my goodness.
To Get to You is a story of forgiveness and second chances.. of starting new and giving others that opportunity as well. Its about seeing the best in others and embracing who they are deep down rather than judging who they might appear to be at a glance.
At a glance, this story is stereotypical mohawk-wearing, skateboard-riding, former troublemaker kid-from-a-broken-home meets stereotypical sheltered, mom-reads-her-texts, Christian homeschool girl. But truly, it goes so much deeper than this. These characters are so very alive and developed and they are their own people. Not cast from a mold. Not stereotypical. At all.
Rileys bitterness toward his long-absent dad is understandable but really tugs at the heart. When he ends up having no other option but to call his dad for help after major car trouble, Riley must confront the lack of history they have together.
An adventurous road trip story, it incorporates themes of reconciliation and sweet love. And it brought tears. Joanne Bischof gives new meaning to the word heartfelt.
This book kept me wanting to keep listening to just one more chapter, it left me continually wanting to know what comes next. Im so looking forward to finding out when the next book is coming.
Nick Powers did an excellent job with the audio book, as he brought out the many emotions found within these pages.
This book, for me, is reminiscent of a freshly-baked batch of homemade cookies. The kind that arent yet cool, the kind that you find yourself reaching for another without even looking up. Because its natural. This story is natural too, its real.
This Was So Fun To Listen To!
If you could sum up To Get to You in three words, what would they be?
Journey of Healing...or perhaps...Dads Are Important
What was one of the most memorable moments of To Get to You?
One of Riley and Jake's discussions when they really began to break down some walls between them.
    Which scene was your favorite?
I don't want to have spoilers, but the part relating to the food allergy was riveting.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I just loved it! I had already read the story about a year earlier. But it was so great to LISTEN to this book. The narrator did such a good job, especially with the voices of Jake, Saul, and Riley. They were EXACTLY the way I imagined them as I read the book.
