Great series!

The true spirit of Christmas

I found this book last year and gave it to lots of people for Christmas because it's such a great story of a child experiencing the real spirit of Christmas, opening herself to other's needs and including them in the fold. And this year, I was involved in a homeless project trying to raise awareness of homeless women in our area so it had even more relevance to my life, to the people with whom I was working and to whom I gave it, and to the spirit of the season. And it's gorgeously illustrated and presented -- a favorite of mine. I believe it's currently out-of-print and the price on Amazon was incredible.

Blown Away by the Ending!

After two weeks I finally finished Great Joy about a little girl preparing for a Christmas play and a lonely organ grinder playing in the city streets during the early part of the 20th century.

Toward the end of the story the children in the play are coaxing the protagonist to recite her line. Instead who shows up through the doors of the auditorium? You guessed it, the organ grinder.I expected the girl to say something like, "Hey,look who showed-up it's that old dude from the street." But she doesn't say that she says something remarkable, something in my 2.14 weeks of pouring over this classic story I would have never expected. Wow!

Great book

I am a pre k teacher, and this book is a welcome addition to my classroom. The children loved hearing the story, and learning all about dinosaurs like the Bracciasaurus, triceratops, Spinasaurus, t-Rex, and stegosaurus. We then made our own dinosaur books, dinosaurs and city complete with painted rocks, river,grass for the herbivores, and mountains. My only wish was that characters came with the story. I started purchasing books with characters, and when it's story time I introduce the character and state that he/ she is sharing a special story today. Then I bring the character to life, and have the character choose a friend and that child holds the character throughout the story. If I have more than one character, I ask each character. The children love it, and it makes story time fun. During the day the story and character(s) are in the classroom library for the children during quiet reading times. This story is definitely a must have if you are learning about dinosaurs as the author explains it in an age appropriate manner.

Great facts, no so great "story" that goes with it.

Great Dino facts. But the "story," the few words on each page isn't that great. My son still loves it.

Dinosaur Bones

This is a wonderful book for 2 to 4 year olds. My 2 year old daughter is in love with all things "dinosaur" right now. After viewing the video several times, she was ecstatic when she saw the book. The illustrations are large and in vivid colors. The writing and lettering are clear and easy for the young emerging reader. Parents and young aspiring archaeologists will enjoy reading about the history of dinosaurs, in the light-hearted, humorous, and rhythmic Bob Barner style. Hopefully, Scholastic Books releases the dvd soon along with Dem Bones, which are only viewable on cable "on demand." I also recommend Bob Barner's Dem Bones.

Multi-level reading levels.

Cute story and this book can be read on two different levels. The main story rhymes and is simple enough for preschoolers. The sidebar text adds details for the older reader.

great book for kids who like dinos

My son adores this book. Has not tired of it, even after reading it every single night for months now. I bought it because we ran out of renewals at the library and I think this one will be in our reading rotation for a long time. At 2.5 years old, he knows his dinos and it very interested in fossils/bones/skeletons because of this book. It's a good length and it isn't scary so I don't have to skip any parts because he's so young.

Not really the song

My 6 year old was a bit disappointed at the end. "I thought this was a funny book but it's an educational book." Book goes through the lines of the song and explains what the actual bones are and how they function.

Fun book for the family!

What a fun book! My 5 year old son loves this. I buy him a new book relating to a holiday every year for each holidary- this was his Halloween book this year. It is great quality and fun to read. My dad, his grandpa, does the best job reading it- it is so fun to use different voices for it. We also have the Scholastic dvd to go along with it, which is great and really complimentary- it gives it a New Orleans' bluesy feel. The book also teaches parts of the skeleton and functions well! It is a great book, and I highly recommend this!

HUGE HIT

We got this book from the library & read it over & over!! They loved the song and the skeleton pictures! I loved that it included the real names of bones in the back which my kids were actually excited about too! Since my kids loved it, I used it in some classes that I teach with skeleton bone clackers.....it was a HIT there too! I heard some parents bought it as well. Skeletons were not scary, but part of our bodies. (a student had a broken arm and we tied that into conversation too!)

Love this book as a way to show the good ...

Love this book as a way to show the good news/bad news of technology. The family is "forced" to do other things besides sit on computers and I love that! (Of course the hole in the theory is that if your phone/iPad was charged, you could still use it.)

A lovely story about how a family finds each other during a power outage.

Beautiful pictures and story about how we get caught up in the the hustle and bustle of our day and how we can rediscover ourselves in the face of adversity.

I ordered this book for my class of N.Y.C. preschoolers. There are so few children's books set in an urban environment, despite the many children who live in cities across the U.S.A. For the sight of the Brooklyn Bridge alone, I give this five stars!

Addendum: I just read this book to my class and they were thoroughly engaged. The illustrations are amazing and the accompanying text is easy to bring to life.

This book is classic in both the prose and the illustrations. This summer (June, 2016) I read it to 300 primary students and had a small group of them act it out. They loved it. To me this was true evidence that the 1888 ballad is the greatest baseball poem/ballad ever written.

Great little imaginative book with beautiful stickers, especially for those who love pink! Pinkalicious has written to Edgar Easter bunny to remind him not to forget her on Easter. Edgar leaves her a note in her front yard where we see that her family lives in a pink house. Edgar sends Pinkalicious and her family on a scavenger hunt with clues that make Pinkalicious and her family as well as reader/listeners to think of the answers. In the story the author uses many puns, and words that sound like egg or could be spelled with "egg", like "Eggxactly". Along the way each clue is a riddle, and the last clue is for them to go to the place that Pinkalicious loves the most and has the most pink. At first she thinks it is Mr. Swizzle's Ice Cream shop, and when she goes there not finding anything, she realizes her own home is the most pink, and the place she loves the most. The only downfall of this book is that it focuses so much on Pinkalicious,and what she wants and gets at Easter, and her brother Peter is not shown to receive similar gifts and attention. When read this book, one young listener said, "What about her brother Peter? Edgar Easter Bunny left Pinkalicious a beautiful Easter basket over filled with eggs, chocolate, and all, and Peter gets nothing? I don't think that is fair, cause the Easter bunny should give everyone in a family equal gifts. Pinkalicious should share her basket with poor Peter!" We had a long discussion about sharing, and how it can feel hurtful when one or more children can get more attention than others in a family. That it is unfair to make others feel left out or excluded (like Cinderella), and if they had kids they would want to love them equally and what that meant to them. In general the children liked the book, but did not like the treatment of Peter, and that the author excluded what happened for Peter on Easter.

Great childrens' series!

I just love this book series. My daughter is 3 and this is her favorite series. We read one every night. The plots are easy to understand and always teach a cute lesson.

More Goodness

I've read and reviewed so many Pinkalicious books I'm running out of fresh things to say. Suffice to say my kids still love them and I buy each new book as soon as it's available. Eggstraordrinary Easter is as good as all the rest and makes enjoyable bedtime reading.

New favorite for my two boys

New favorite for my two boys! These stories are wonderfully imaginative. They have exciting plot lines with just the right hint of danger to keep the whole family engrossed about what will happen next, but are not too scary for my 4-year-old. The writing is concise, sharp, and just at the right level for kids who are getting the hang of reading. From the cover, these thin paper backs resemble other beginning chapter books, such as the Magic Tree House series. But these are shorter and a much quicker read. Each individual books has two stories/adventures in them so it's easy to finish one story each night before bed and get that pay off of of having completed a whole story. I also love that Tashi's cleverness always saves the day. Recommending this series to all the kids I know in the 4-8 age range. Can't say enough good things about this set.

Tashi is a great read

Do you like fun and amazing stories? If you do, check out Tashi. In this first Tashi book, Tashi goes on amazing and strange adventures. He tricks dragons, fights Giants and even scares away ghosts. This brave character will be sure to entertain your kids from cover to cover and has many spectacular black and white illustrations.. This eight year old looks forward to reading the rest of the series.

Great for boys

My child had a collection of the first 7 books and wanted the complete set. He really enjoys these books and reads them over and over again. My boy says they are good books for anyone who likes to read about a hero who likes to trick the bad guys.

Wonderful stories! Highly recommend them. My husband and I love reading them with my girls (8 and 5). Recommend getting larger books with combined stories since they are fast reads and you'll want to read more than one!

One of our favorites!!

This is my first FANCY NANCY book but it definitely won't be the last. It is full of beautiful pictures; shares a lesson in behavior; and best of all, it has great vocabulary words that are explained through the story. Nancy's class is going to the apple orchard to pick apples. Lionel is her "trip buddie" but he gets himself into trouble numerous times. All works out in the end and Nancy gets her Gala Apples for her Dad too. My granddaughters love this book too!

My daughers (11, 8 and 6) enjoy this cute book! The sentences are more simple, but the words are big and challenging at times. Go with the "My First" I Can Read! books for emerging readers...the level 1 is for kids who can already read well.

Great book!

My kindergartner is so excited about reading and she adores Fancy Nancy! She is thrilled with this book and we talk about the consequences of not listening that occur in the story. It is great to find a series of books that motivates her to read all the time!

My daughter loves all things Fancy Nancy, and she loves even more that she can read it herself. I love that she learns new "fancy" words with each new book, and that these early readers aren't as boring as some other ones we've come across. Love it!
