    Praise for the series
The entire Guardians of the Three series is simply amazing. They are fast-pased, well-written, with involved and tantalizing storylines. You are immediately drawn into the world of mrem society and into the lives of the complex characters.
Lord of Cragsclaw introduces you to Talwe, an enigmatic villager with odd golden eyes which make him the outcast of those he lives with. The story follows his transformation from melancholy outsider-looking-in to a masterful but frightening warrior who must rise to face an enemy that threatens the heart of the mrem nation itself.

    Publisher's Summary:
Knights Rising: The Silver Knights Saga opens by introducing us to the character of Michael Carlear, a knight in search of his identity and destiny. Our protagonist is on a revengeful quest to avenge his father's death at the hands of the evil mage, Soladar. This journey is further marred by the death of his love, the beautiful Kara, and the person responsible for the same is again Soladar.
Now Michael seeks this evil mage trying to understand the reason for the death of his loved ones. But the only way to do that is to destroy Soladar and all the evil that he controls which include the black beasts called Scarious.
"The all-consuming desire for revenge for the deaths of Kara and his father gnawed at him like an endless hunger, an unquenchable thirst for his enemies' blood."
His only hope may lie in the sword that he carries - a sword that once belonged to the great Silver Knight, Glollas. On his travels he encounters the beautiful and mysterious barmaid, Holly, who hides more than she reveals and is much more than just a romantic fling. While Michael is undertaking his journey, the evil Soladar is on his own mission to destroy the Orb of Chaos, which will imprison the entire free will of humanity.
This tantalizing plot form the background of Knights Rising: The Silver Knights Saga, which gives us memorable characters in the form of magi, knights, saplings, and kruckles and will leave you panting for more.
"The piercing arrow of love is cut by the shearing edge of the sword of truth. Neither can coexist so yet one must fall to the other. Which shall it be?"

    Editor Desperately Needed
This review is for the Kindle version.
If you want to get through this book you have to be willing to over look a lot. There are many, many spelling errors, missing words and mis-used words. The grammar is below sophomoric.
The story itself could have potential but some issues get in the way. The author does not seem to know who his intended audience is. What I mean by this is, I got the impression that at times he was writing for adults and at other times, for grammar school aged kids. The vocabulary tends to meet the latter. Another issue is the characters are involved in a quest, which at times is very descriptive but then gets wrapped up very quickly so that new characters can get introduced toward the end of the book. The author seems to want to take on more than he is capable of handling. Not every book of this genre has to be part of a trilogy. I would have much preferred if the author had stuck with the story he started out writing.
I gave this book two stars because there is potential here. The initial story is good and most of the characters are enjoyable (although a couple drive me nuts and just don't belong). This story could have been a lot better with some proper editing. Sadly, it was not provided.
Sorry, this does not cut it.
I am sorry to be honest here, but this is not well conceived or well written. The dialogue is childish and the plot is poorly conceived. I gave up after a few chapters. I suggest the author think much more about plot development, dialogue that engages the reader rather than bores sophomorically, and avoids using lines to describe mundane things that have no business receiving attention in a fantasy book that should be exciting. Once again, I am sorry to be so direct, but there is no other alternative here.

Good book but too many loose ends.
This is the first time I've actually read the entire series. Decades ago only read up to book 4, and finally able to finish the series. I enjoyed the first 4 books, but the last book leaves a lot of things hanging. I'm not sure if there were supposed to be more books to this series or if the intent was to leave almost everything unresolved.
This can not be the end.
No resolution to the conflicts, the subhuman Gasam and Larissa still alive and well. The series needs a 6th book to give some kind of closure.
    loved it
its matched up with all of his other books perfectly and makes you wish he would right more in the universe of the series

Unusually good content but needed more refinement
    Any additional comments?
Not many of these new Audible offerings in the D&D subgenera have reviews yet. But you can go to the Amazon parent company and find reviews of the book itself. The story is a little hard to follow because of the number of characters and groups, as well as the overarching story. It needed to come with a cast of characters and be better at letting the audience know what is going on overall. This was my take:
    Protagonist crew
Lucas - Captain of the Spinx and a ranger
Gasparshen -a Genasea (fish humanoid, blue skin like tropical fish)
    Succa - Gnome
The Savage -Golden Elf, black skin golden haired, wears black
    Marakay -human priestest, yellow hair
Kip -boy (referred to as a cat shifter I think), came with Marakay
Lady Oraloff - Big Kingdom 1, Queen of the Fey (aka LeShay)
    Monbaldium - nephew of Oraloff
    Prince ArathAldron Kendrick -Queen's lord
Princess Marabaldia - giantess, prisoner with Succa
Poke - lycanthrope, pig, prisoner with Succa
Moray Island - where Queen Oraloff ended up after assasination attempt when a child. Amaranth -Island queen (sister to Oraloff). Some lycanthropes inhabitants made her their queen, though they're only a villiage and not the only one on the island.
Argon Bale - swordsman and leader of lycanthropes following old ways/god (opposing Amaranth)
Aluthra -female druid priest warewolf of Bales's group
    King Dared, Big Kingdom 2
Captain Rurick - king envoy who hired Lucas/crew to take to Moray island to transport/defend KendrickVendarian - magician of some kind
So big Kingdom 2 and some allies would like Kingdom 1 to stop bothering them. They want to get Amaranth from Moray Island to be its new ruler. Oraloff, naturally enough, would rather stay in power. So it is the story of the pawns, the Spinxs crew and Amaranth. Unusually good character development for this subgenera, which is developed with some backstory on the characters as you go and interesting. The past/present back and forth did not throw me.
There is more writing talent (I'd say a 4 or 4.5 on that) in many of the scenes than you expect in this subgenera and the naration was subtly good. How smooth the plot seemed to flow and make sense to the audience was the drawback. That and the ending not being very strong. The Spinxs crew has the right dynamic and an earlier, less dramatic and smother story would probably be really good.

Fun "Sword & Planet" adventure. Get svelte, escape to Talera!
Swords of Talera: Book One of the Talera Cycle is fun "Sword & Planet" adventure. Get svelte, escape to Talera.
I first discovered Charles Allen Gramlich via his poetic Sword & Sorcery books (highly recommended): Bitter Steel: Tales and Poems of Epic Fantasy and Harvest of War. Being biased toward weird adventure on "earth," I was inspired to branch out slightly because of the Goodreads Sword & Sorcery Group's groupread for May-June 2014, the theme being "Sword & Planet." Being a fan of Gramlich, this was a prime time to try out his Talera Cycle. If you ask the author why he should read it, he'll reveal his humorous side (taken from his Facebook page):
"Dr. Charles Gramlich, professor of psychology at a prominent New Orleans University, has made the extraordinary claim that reading the three books of the Talera fantasy series, Swords of Talera, Wings Over Talera, and Witch of Talera, will actually help you lose weight and maintain a svelte figure. Gramlich says that, "those who read the slender volumes of the Talera series, which are quick and exciting stories, develop a speedier metabolism, allowing them to burn calories more quickly. This effect lingers for weeks after the books are finished," he adds, "and can easily be prolonged further by consuming another book by the same author." When asked whether that author, Charles `Allen' Gramlich, was any relation, Dr. Gramlich abruptly yelled "Fire" and left the room."
Even though Swords of Talera: Book One of the Talera Cycle is not explicitly comedic, it does present pulp adventure with a dose of old-school "cheese" sprinkled atop weird milieu and tons of melee. It is a homeage the Sword & Planet subgenre initiated by Edgar Rice Burroughs in the early 1900's with John Carter, and has all the tropes fans of the subgenre would demand: a man from the early 1900's gets transported from earth to a strange planet; he can occasionally revisit earth; he manages to quickly converse with many aliens, lead armies, and free a maiden in distress.
Gramlich's "Carter" is a 1914 sea merchant captain named Ruenn Maclang, whose arrogance and decisive leadership will remind readers of Indiana Jones. He gets transported to Talera mysteriously along with his crew, though he gets separated and strives to find his fellow earthlings. He is met by many humanoid aliens embroiled in slave-trade and war. Maclang becomes infatuated with a maiden in distress, and shallow-romantic interactions with her are intermittent. A sidebar on the technological history behind the mysterious Planet/Land Talera was distinctly cheezy sci-fi, but was not explored in depth in this first installment.

Few Editing Problems, Good Story, Aggravating Ending
    MAJOR SPOILER ALERT!!!
    MAJOR SPOILER ALERT!!!
If you're tired of fantasy stories where the lowly character ends up becoming king or queen, don't bother with this one. I liked it up until then. There were some editing mistakes. A few misspellings (though not many), a word was missing from a sentence here and there, once or twice "their" was used instead of "they're" and quite often throughout the book a whole section was indented. Not just the paragraph beginnings but the whole paragraph, which made it very noticeable. All in all, though, it was a pretty good book. Until I got to the part where he was announced as the heir to the throne, and I was like "Really?? You had to go there??" I thought about throwing the book across the room in annoyance but I only had a page left to go, so I went ahead and finished it.
    Demonspawn
Since this book was free I thought I would give it a chance. I never read anything like this before so I didn't really know what to expect. The story, flow of writing and character development were surprisingly good. My only complaint would be slight typos and words being left out, which seems to be common for these free and .99 cent books. The story reads like historical fiction and kept me intrigued the whole time. Quick and easy read that is worth the $2.99 that it is now listed at in my opinion.
    Good Read.
Very good read. Grammar and spelling need to be reviewed. Other than that, I really enjoyed the book. Thank you.
    give it a chance
pretty good story about demonspawns (descendants of half-demons) being hunt by regular people and a dark sorcerer attempting to connect human world with demons one. good written lightweight reading with few typos but definitely worth the time. fans of this genre should go for it.
    Dark Tale
This book was an easy read in that there weren't many typos and the story flowed. Descriptions were kept brief and the author doesn't bog you down with lengthy fill-in material. The story was a good one and came together well at the end. The only negative I have about this book was the fact that evil won way too much. I always want the good guy to come out on top in my entertainment. Real life doesn't work that way, so I would like for my fantasy life to be rich in good guy winning over bad guy! :-) The bad guys winning all the time made it a little dark for my taste and it was kind of gory too, but other than that, not too bad for a freebie.
