The journey is over. The quest for the sun has fallen to ruin.
From the depths of a hopeless swamp, Iliff condemns himself. But when he encounters a dethroned king and his war-torn subjects, he stirs to new purpose: to protect these good people from the darkness of the world. It will be his redemption. Or will it? For the more fiercely Iliff struggles to fortify their light, the greater looms the enemy's shadow - and his own.
So continues The Prisoner and the Sun, the fantasy-based trilogy that asks: What lies beyond our walls?

A Review of Book Two
In the second book, Illif is now fully grown, with the consciousness, ambitions, concerns of a man. He is aided by a huge, Loch Ness-type creature in escaping from a Homeric miasma where he spends years trapped on an island, subsisting on raw catfish. He is taken in by a Utopian kingdom of innocent creatures who radiate their emotions in halos of color around their heads.
When he learns of the historic enmity between his adopted people and the conquering Garrot, he finds a way in which he can help. By employing his masonry skills from the days of the subterranean prison, Illif builds a fortress for the community which seems impregnable. The construction requires considerable resources and a change in outlook and organization for the peaceful, happy villagers. Here the allegory becomes far richer than the theme of protection from an external enemy. One faction of the community is bent on a final, total war with their adversaries. Another believes that the Garrot are not so different from themselves, and that the chances for peace are good. As the impending fight gets closer, even Illif begins to question whether the walls he has built are truly needed. Perhaps they are warping the spirit of the community, making them hide away in their fortress and count all outsiders as foreign, enemy.
The book ends in failure for the massive edifice that never seemed to fit the spirit of the villagers. And Illif, realizing he is a seeker and not a townsman, is back on the road toward the adventures that I, for one, am eagerly anticipating in Book Three.
A fantasy ride you don't want to miss (2)
Lights and Shadows (The Prisoner and the Sun #2) by Brad Magnarella is the second installment of the "The Prisoner and The Sun" trilogy. This second book takes up where book 1 ended, the action never misses a beat, and the journey continues full speed ahead. Just like book 1, I could not put this book down, and I really did not want it to end. This is an excellent book, well written and excellently edited. The characters are well defined, the tale is gripping and all I can say is; get it, read it and enjoy it. Happy reading. I look forward to reading book 3. I strongly recommend this book and this author.
