Amazing End to an Amazing Series
This was an amazing end to this wonderful series. There was non-stop action (much more than any other in the series), and every scene was filled with heartbreaking, hold-your-breath tension. Would Kevin find a way back to Breena? Would Palisor overcome the seemingly insurmountable obstacle that they were facing? And will Fallon become human? All of these questions are answered, and I was unbelievably happy with how everything worked out in the end. Ms. Gow has written an amazing series, and I was sad to see it end. However, I know that I will reread this series many many times. The world Ms. Gow had created is so unique and original, and I applaud her for that. I'm excited to read the spin-off, because it features a personal favorite, and sounds exciting. I'm sure it will be absolutely thrilling!
    Amazing Series
The wicked woods series is definitely one worth checking out. So many different paranormal beings all introduced and woven together so well. What a great series!
    Good book.
I would recommend this book/author to anyone interested this subject. Keeps your interest. It's been a while since I read it but would recommend to someone interested in this subject.
    Excellent Ending and Great Prequel
I just finished this book and it was an excellent ending to the wicked woods series; while at the same time, an excellent prequel to the new series to follow. I was happy to see that the book focused on the battle to protect wicked woods and Palisor and not which love interest the main character chooses. The choice made was the best choice and I was glad to see that as well. This is a good series for those who like were-wolves, vampires and fairies.
    LOVE THIS SERIES
iI started reading this series on my daughters kindle. When I got my kindle fire, just had to get this book. I didnt disapoint. Love this book.

Even better than the first book!
Would you consider the audio edition of Emityon: Evolve to be better than the print version?
Yes and no, it is much more convenient so I can listen to it in the car, but I always like the ability to imagine my own words and inflections.
What other book might you compare Emityon: Evolve to and why?
Any epic book in the middle of a series. It follows the traditional epic story line but with better character development than most I have read.
What does Lee Strayer bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
He is creative and has a natural voice for narration.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Definitely, "The next Lord of the Rings Epic is Here!"
    Any additional comments?
Read/ listen to the whole series!

A great sequel to a wonderful series.
This book is an excellent follow up to the first book (Darkin : A Journey East.) A lot of questions the first book left me with were answered in this book. The main characters in the first book are further developed and I literally began to care about the characters and what happened to them. In addition, a lot of new characters are introduced and there are quite a few interesting plot twist that leave you wanting more. There is more action, more romance, more magic and more characters. If you enjoyed the first book, this book is a must buy. You will not be disappointed.
=====THE REST OF THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS, IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THE SECOND BOOK PLEASE STOP HERE AND BUY THIS BOOK!=====

I really enjoyed the sci-fi elements that were added to this book. I think this gives a whole new perspective to Darkin. I also loved how the "Aliens" leave a lot of questions, and it leaves me wondering what will happen to them and the galaxy they are attempting to save, and what will happen when and if they return to Darkin. This by itself leaves me wanting to read the third book.
As far as character progression goes, this book does a fantastic job developing Adacon. Its been a fun adventure following him from a slave on the farm of Grelion to a Welsprin. Adacon truly is an awesome hero, and a character I found myself caring about a lot.
My favorite character in the series is Remtall. My favorite scenes from this book is in the Gear Chambers and obtaining the Rod of the Gorge. Remtall's courage is truly inspiring and his character is so deep. I also enjoy his relationship with Ulpo and think they make a perfect team. I felt his pain when he confronted Grelion and when he broke down, I found goosebumps all over my body. The scene was very powerful and made me understand Remtall just that much more. Remtall is a very memorable character and one of my favorites from any fantasy series.
This book introduces quite a few new characters and adds quite a bit more depth into the world of Darkin. Although I did enjoy just following a few characters in the first book, the second book does make Darkin feel a lot bigger and richer.
and just as the first book left me wanting more, the second book is no different.

    Publisher's Summary:
Emperor Magramon is dead and his only son, Ilgarion, will finally ascend to the Khatrimantine throne, guided by the Archmage Tangaroth and protected by the Iron Guard. But dark undercurrents are moving beneath the surface of life in Sejeend, the imperial capital, and the agents of an old and malign power are plotting and waiting. Only the Order of Watchers, a band of renegade mages, has any inkling of what is afoot and their investigations lead to grotesque and violent confrontations.
    Critic Reviews:
"... unconventional high fantasy trilogy... [Cobley] has taken traditional sword and sorcery to some new and perhaps uncomfortable places... Once again Mike has succeeded in producing an unusually dark and claustrophobic piece of work, though it is a lot less bleak than its predecessors. It is also a lot less convoluted with the battle lines more clearly drawn." (Infinity Plus)
"[Cobley] drew the characters with verve and style, encouraging the reader to participate in the story he was unfolding. The plot was complex but clearly spun out, providing tantalising teasers at the end of each episode, which made me want to skip ahead to the next time that particular thread was picked up and woven. In my opinion, a clear winner for Michael Cobley." (SF Crowsnest)
"There is plenty here to keep any fans of high fantasy happy. The familiar elements are here, but don't worry about them feeling borrowed or contrived. Cobley has presented his own fantasy world and characters, well rounded, fully explored and absorbing." (Eternal Night)
"Cobley seems to have captured much of the dark bent of [Robert E.] Howard in the Shadowkings series." (Trashotron)

    Epic mythological fantasy
    Book Info: Genre: Fantasy (Epic/Mythological)
    Reading Level: Adult
Recommended for: fans of mythology, epic fantasy
Trigger Warnings: torture, mutilation, killing, mass murder, slavery, murder of children, cannibalism
Animal Abuse: Several dogs are killed
My Thoughts: This book was originally released in 1986, and was re-released earlier this year by ChiZine. This is a very strange story, designed in homage to both the creation mythology of the Bible and of the epic of Gilgamesh, among other things. It's long-term, sweeping nature is sometimes a bit hard to follow, but in the end, it is very much worth it. I do recommend that if you read this book, you take the time to focus and concentrate on the story. I read most of it in short bits and pieces and that made it a bit hard to follow.
While there wasn't a lot of it, I really liked the part of the book written from Galo's point of view. Everything to him is strange, including pain and water and cold and light. It was fascinating, and I can guess that the section was short due to the very strangeness that the author had to inhabit to write it.
There is plenty of bitter with a bit of sweet. The Wordy Beast (which I think was a griffin) was really neat. There is a great deal of metaphor is vagueness in this, which leaves the reader to interpret things as she likes. I think a lot of people will enjoy this, especially if they like mythology and epic fantasy.
Disclosure: I received a copy of this book from ChiZine in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Synopsis: To defeat her enemies . . . she must make them immortal.

Teazle is a demon who may have become Death's Angel. Zal is a has-been elven musician without a band. They don't add up to much and when they get together major stuff goes down. But the dead are walking, the veil between the worlds is tearing and if it fails altogether all bets are off.
Someone has to do something and it looks like it's going to have to be Lila. Is attitude enough to get you through life and death? Will it get you a happy ending?
    Critic Reviews:
"Robson wraps up her highly inventive, often convoluted Quantum Gravity series with this complex tale that brings all the different elements of the story together in a satisfactory conclusion... The way this stellar urban fantasy unfolds is much like following a mobius strip as it twists and folds back upon itself while never failing to deliver plenty of surprises. The relationship between Lila, Zal and Teazle has been a fascinating centerpiece of the overall story and plays a large role in this last book of the series." (MonstersAndCritics)

Lila Black is off with the faeries...
Ever since the Quantum Bomb of 2015 things have been different; the dimensions have fused and suddenly our world is accessible to elves, demons, ghosts and elementals and their worlds are open to us. Things have been different for Special Agent Lila Black too: Tortured and magic-scarred by elves, rebuilt by humans into a half-robot, part-AI, nuclear-fueled walking arsenal, and carrying the essence of a dead elfin necromancer in her chest, sometimes she has trouble figuring out who she is. And a mission to the world of the fae may not help her work it out.
The fae are beautiful, glamorous, exotic, and talented. Their inventions make food taste better, make beer divine, and bring sparkle and mischief to the world but that's only the surface. And Lila is being sent in at the deep end, to the deepest, darkest levels of Faerie: On the primal level, nothing about the fae is glamorous at all.
In a winter-locked, raw, and primitive world, Lila has to deal with the fae at their most basic levels, as tricksters and dealmakers and the only deals worth making are bloody ones.
If Lila's quest is to succeed, and if she is ever to escape Faerie, the right question must be asked, the right sacrifice must be made, and the right quarry must be hunted down on the winter solstice. All of which is difficult, when the only aides Lila brought to Faerie are her friends...

    Publisher's Summary:
and so it was written in the ancient tomes by She Who First Walked in the Garden: The divided kingdom will reunite under a child born of two worlds. - The Dryad Prophecies
All hope was lost the day the promised savior returned to the Underground and accepted the hand of the goblin king in marriage. As word of the Hunters demise spread throughout the land, those most ancient and revered began to fade from the world, flickering in and out of existence like falling stars. The darkness separating the two kingdoms has receded back into the Darknjan Wald, but it lingers on the border - a forever reminder of everything theyve lost.
When an unexpected gift arrives on the doorstep of the Historian, Sylvanus, hope sparks anew as the fading council realizes the ancient prophecies were misread. Hope has not died, it has only just been born, and to keep him safe they must hide the child in the Upland the same way they once hid his mother.
Winterborn is a novelette that takes place between the events in The Goblin Market and Jack in the Green.
    Members Reviews:
Great teaser while we wait for Jack the Green
Many, many eons ago, I reviews a wonderful tale entitled The Goblin Market. I absolutely adored the world created by Ms Melzer and have anxiously been waiting for the next book in the series, Jack the Green. Somehow, I missed the release of Winterborn, which is a novelette that falls between The Goblin Market and Jack the Green. As with most tales that one truly loves, my biggest âcomplaintâ was the length. It simply wasnât long enough. I loved the characters, the direction the story is taking and the description used while setting up the scenes, so, of course, I am now even more anxious for Jack the Green.
I know I am being rather vague, but, as with a short story, a novelette simply is too short a form to give away too much detail other than what the synopsis gives. Just trust me when I say, Winterborn is definitely a fantastic teaser, while we waitâand waitâ.and wait for Jack the Green to be finished (Catch the hint here Jennifer? I know youâre busy, Iâm only teasingâ.sorta)
Enough to leave you wanting more...
The problem with novellas like this one is that you want them to be full-length books.
I picked this up as soon as I finished with Goblin Market, and my only disappointment came from the page numbers.
It's a problem when you really, really, REALLY want to know what happens next and the page numbers prove far too short.
Winterborn picks up where Goblin Market left off. Meredith is an ice queen, there in the Goblin Kingdom, but not present and certainly not happy. Every night she walks the banks of the Nether Lake, looking for the love that she's lost.
Things change when she gives birth to a son. The Goblin King is not one to welcome an interloper into his kingdom, and Meredith has to make a decision that could affect worlds.
As richly imagined as the first, Winterborn is a tie in for the series, long enough to sate, but short enough to keep you wanting more.
    Waiting.....
Ok.worst part of a page turner is coming abruptly to the last page! Ready for the next part anytime now!
