    Very together lady
After reading this book, I am astounded at Sharon's tenacity for life, also of her love for the men who treated her so badly. I don't think I could forgive so easily, but then it is obviously why she is now successfully getting on with her life and enjoying her current status.
    amazing
She is strong, courageous and outragously funny. Defiantly recommend this book to anyone who appreciates her work.
    Interesting read
Sharon Obourne has always made me laugh and hearing her read this herself I am pleased to say this continued within her own way of explaining things lol. A true insight into her and ozzy's childhoods, how they met, turbulent marriage and how life has its ups and downs. Thoroughly recommend!!!! Have since also listened to her latest autobiography which goes on to tell about jacks ms diagnosis, x factor , t h e Osbournes and again many ups n down. Although a shame it's not read by Sharon I definitely would recommend it as a follow on from this one.
    Hilarious!
This one certainly isn't for the prudish amongst us! I've never heard so many four letter words in one sentence!!! Sharon tells us an amazing story. I laughed til my sides split at some of the antics she got up to. You will also need your tissue handy. I really would urge you to give this one a go. I'm glad I did.
    Amazing
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, the book is so different than expected and has a serious of twists and turns.
What did you like best about this story?
I love how Sharon's life is different to how anybody thought it would be, she has been through so much more than she shows.
Which character as performed by Sharon Osbourne was your favourite?
    Ozzy
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It made me laugh in places and cry in others. The plot goes so deep I was left shocked multiple times.

  • On Michael Jackson Audiobook by Margo Jefferson

    Title: On Michael Jackson
    Author: Margo Jefferson
    Narrator: Andrea Johnson
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 3 hrs and 47 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 01-19-06
    Publisher: Books on Tape
Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 10 votes
    Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Celebrities
    Publisher's Summary:
Who is Michael Jackson and what does it mean to call him a "What Is It"? What do P. T. Barnum, Peter Pan, and Edgar Allan Poe have to do with our fascination with Jackson? How did his curious Victorian upbringing and his tenure as a child prodigy on the "chitlin' circuit" inform his character and multiplicity of selves? How is Michael Jackson's celebrity related to the outrageous popularity of 19th-century minstrelsy? What is the perverse appeal of child stars for grown-ups and what is the price of such stardom for these children and for us? What uncanniness provoked Michael Jackson to become "Alone of All His Race, Alone of All Her Sex," while establishing himself as an undeniably great performer with neo-Gothic, dandy proclivities and a producer of visionary music videos? What do we find so unnerving about Michael Jackson's presumed monstrosity? In short, how are we all of us implicated?
In her stunning first book, Margo Jefferson gives us the incontrovertible lowdown on call-him-what-you-wish; she offers a powerful reckoning with a quintessential, richly allusive signifier of American society and popular culture.
    Critic Reviews:
    "One smart little book." (Booklist)
"[A] slim, smart volume of cultural analysis." (Publishers Weekly)
    Members Reviews:
    Terrible book!
The tone of this book is that of an author who had an axe to grind regarding the King of Pop (and most of his family members).
95% of the book is nothing but condemnation of Michael's lifestyle, clothes, skin, and surgeries instead of praising him for his talents and
monumental contributions to many social causes.
The author frequently used derogatory words to describe people. She repeatedly referred to Michael as a "freak," gays as "queer,"
transgendered as "tranis." She compares Michael to oddities made famous by Barnum & Bailey Circus in the old days.
There were two reasons I purchased and listened to this book.
First, there are few books on audio about Michael Jackson as I write this.
Second, I was impressed that the author has a Pulitzer prize, a theatre critic at The New York Times and a full-time professor at Eugene Lang College the New School for Liberal Arts.
Only the last 53 minutes of this 3.5 hour book have any redeeming value as that was about the molestation trial, of which he was acquitted on all counts! To her credit, the author did a decent (but not great) job writing about that topic.
The remaining 3 hours of this book, along with the author's Pulitzer, belong in the toilet, as this is one of the worst books I have ever read or
    listened to!
    Poetically Brilliant Cultural Analysis
Creates a concise and meaningful interpretation of what Mr. Jackson means to humanity in so many facets: his Freudian duality, morphing sex and sexuality, his skin as an argument to the history of race and species, and as a child star in tragic self-flagellation. Worth a second listen.
    Interesting
This book is about the overall, big-picture of Michael Jackson. The narration is good. Literary and analytical, this book compares and contrasts Michael Jackson to various people throughout entertainment history.

Title: I'm Just a DJ But...It Makes Sense to Me

    Narrator: Tom Joyner
    Format: Abridged
Length: 2 hrs and 43 mins

    Publisher: Hachette Audio
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 10 votes
    Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Celebrities
    Publisher's Summary:
Hall of Fame disc jockey Tom Joyner uses his signature brand of humor to discuss everything from business to careers to relationships as he shares the insights and lessons he's learned along the way. Now the host of a radio show that is the most popular media outlet ever among African Americans, Joyner started his career at a small AM radio station in his home state of Alabama, working his way across the midwest, and eventually landing in Chicago. In 1985, he made headlines as "The Hardest Working Man in Radio" when he worked a morning show in Dallas in addition to his afternoon show in Chicago. His daily commute earned him the nickname "The Fly Jock". In 1994, he convinced ABC Radio to syndicate his program, and The Tom Joyner Show, a mix of comedy music, and guests who range from Stevie Wonder to Tipper Gore, was born.

    Five Stars
    Love it
    Good Buy
Great book. Gives lots of insight on the life of Tom Joyner.
    Be All You Can Be
"I was a fat kid, and a good sandwich was just the incentive I needed to become an advocate for change." That's Joyner telling about the peanut butter and jelly sandwiches served to sustain the protestors during his involvement in the protest against a white radio station that only played white music. My new mantra: Be all you can be, just don't join the Army. Listen to the Tom Joyner Morning Show (TJMS) instead. I'M JUST A DJ BUT...demonstrates how Joyner is rich is spirit, advice and generosity.
Believe it or not, Tom Joyner didn't wake up one day and suddenly realize he is a millionaire, he worked hard for his money and still does. In fact, his slogan is: "The hardest working man in radio, the fly jock Tom Joyner" holds a lot of truth. He dedicated countless hours of service, even when he wasn't sure about what he was doing; to always (not sometimes) make a good impression. He is "fly" because he once flew daily from Chicago to Dallas to work on two radio stations. Talk about dedication to the profession.
Joyner speaks openly about issues with his weight, the road to syndication, marriage, parenting, the Tom Joyner Foundation, his crew, his commitment to Black people and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). In fact, he's received plenty of backlashes for wanting to help ONLY Black people. Why not cater to your people? I imagine him on his soapbox, preaching his gospel to those who didn't agree and saying something like, "oh well, I'm going to do it anyway." Now that's a man who is comfortable with whom he is, no airs about him. Money didn't change him; it only changed how he spent it. He had a plan; he stuck to it and is now reaping the benefits of his labor. Sure, he made some mistakes along the way, but to err is to be human. Consistency is learned by seeing and doing. It's cyclical and it's up to you to keep the wheels turning and passing on the lessons and good habits.
There are so many lessons obtained from reading I'M JUST A DJ BUT... In this book, Joyner reiterates points he's always talking about on his morning show. The pages are dog-eared and highlighted and soon to be passed on to my teenager.

    Title: Grace
    Author: Robert Lacey
    Narrator: Donna Mills
    Format: Abridged
Length: 2 hrs and 57 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 05-23-14
    Publisher: Phoenix Books
Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 1 votes
    Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Celebrities
    Publisher's Summary:
Stunningly beautiful, elusive and aloof, Grace Kelly captured our imagination and affection throughout her storybook career and royal marriage. Robert Lacey breaks through the glittery façade of her public image to discover a complex, surprisingly conflicted woman who created a dream for herself and succeeded in making it come true. Raised in Philadelphia in an atmosphere of great wealth and grater expectations, Grace transformed from an aristocratic conforming beauty into a sensual, recklessly daring woman.
With the art of a storyteller and the skill of an astute biographer, Lacey presents intimate details of Grace's relationships with Clark Gable, William Holden and Bing Crosby, and ultimately with her prince, their relationship; and her struggles with parenthood. Lacey rounds out this evocative story of a beloved heroine with significant details of the Grimaldi family and Grace's death.

    Fascinating Biography
If all you know about Grace Kelly is her movies and the newsreels of the wedding, you've only scratched the surface! This book provides lots of details about what her early life was really like. The author details that Hollywood is a nasty business.
    I really enjoyed this book
I really enjoyed this book. It gave us insight to who Grace Kelly was and not what we thought she was though it didn't make her out to be a phony or a bad person just a human being like the rest of us. I would surely recommend this book.
Grace Kelly remains one of the most beautiful and sensuous women to ever grace the movies
This biography was difficult to read. That said, it showed Grace Kelly as a real human being with difficult times in her life as well as her triumphs. To this day, Grace Kelly remains one of the most beautiful and sensuous women to ever grace the movies. Reading about her family life as a young woman growing into her beauty was interesting as was her seemingly thoughtless and dangerous liaisons. I was left with the realization that Grace Kelly was a real person and not a figment of some Hollywood PR firm.
    Too Many Errors in Facts
It would be impossible to guess how many errors are in the "facts" about Grace Kelly's romances, etc. However, I can say , without any hesitation whatever, that his "facts" about the practices and beliefs of the Catholic Church are total are total hogwash. His knowledge of Catholic sacraments, especially, is entirely mistaken. I hope that those readers who know little or nothing about the Catholic faith will understand that at least 99% of his statements are untrue. If the rest of the book is as fictional as the beginning chapters it really isn't worth anyone's time or money.
    Tiny print
The book has a great story, a lot of information, much of it unknown to the average public. What I disliked the most was the very small print that uses. Very difficult, and uncomfortable to read the book when you are hampered by the small print. I would rather read it in Kindle, where the font can be as large as you need it to be. That is my reason for only two stars.

"This is a book about humility, dignity, courage and never giving up.... Kudos to celebrity Mark McEwen for the courage to share his stroke recovery journey." (James Baranski, CEO of the National Stroke Association)
"McEwen was voted one of the most trusted people in America.... His wit and warmth made him a welcome guest in millions of homes. The stroke almost took all that away [but] today he has a new mission." (CBS.com)

If you know someone who is coping with a loved one trying to recover from the overwhelming medical challenges ...
If you know someone who is coping with a loved one trying to recover from the overwhelming medical challenges of a stroke, this is the book for you. Mark is himself as the sweet, lovable Entertainment Reporter of days gone by. He takes you through the heyday past, the present limitation and great hope for the future of life post-stroke. Well written and easy to read.
    Was interested in his story
I know Mark from high school and ran into him 20 years later in Hollywood. So, I was interested in his story. I couldn't put it down, but I have a personal interest. He is a wonderful person and very multi faceted. I was so sad to hear about his stroke, but cheering his recovery. His book was helpful and knowledgeable. I hope to see him on TV someday soon!
    Good inspirational book/easy read
I had a cerebellar stroke in March, which caused this communications major and ex-Micrsoft college recruiter to become a disabled person who couldn't talk --overnight and very unexpectely, just like Mark..Mark's book is a good chronolgy of what that feels like and a good inspiration for recovery as he made a 100% comeback.
While I don't have his connections with Bill Cosby or presidents (and admire his newfound verve to use those contacts to get the word out about stoke), I share and admire his drive to recover - and that of his wife to support him...Stroke is not well known, we hear so often about cancer and heart attacks but it is the number one disabler - 455,000 americans will be struck by it this year, or one every 15 seconds...I had none of the prediposing symptoms (high blood pressure/smoker/family history/overweight) yet I still had a stroke and it has changed my life - just like it changed Mark's life into a recovering disabled person who had to learn to slow down and value a second chance at everything..we did not die and there is a distinct silver lining to stroke, which Mark's upbeat book chronicles...it was an easy read and a good boost...a profile in a different kind of courage for friends, family and Mark himself...Unlike many afflications, you CAN recover from stroke...it takes time and oomph.
    Life After a Stroke
Mark McEwan did a good job of describing his recovery; however, he did not put sufficient emphasis on the need for and benefits of agressive therapy.

is a good, if sometimes inaccurate
Erica Thomas's book The Murder of Dominique Dunne, is a good, if sometimes inaccurate, account of the vicious murder of the lovely and talented young actress. However, Thomas's book doesn't provide any information that isn't basically common knowledge on the murder of the young Poltergeist costar and the travesty of a court case that followed.
Great mini book about the Dunne case

    too short a book!
    Short..!!
Was a little short. I found it ok, I have always wondered what happened to Dominique Dunne other then her boyfriend killed her.. Also had some errors but not so much you can't look past.
    Tragedy without justice
This is a well-written account of the murder of young up-and-coming actress Dominique Dunne by her abusive, controlling ex-boyfriend, John Sweeney.
This is one of the reasons all children should be taught self-defense at an early age. Children should also be assured of their self-worth so they don't put up with this kind of behavior and don't forgive their abusers and "give them another chance." If that sounds un-Christian to you, you must believe Christ wants you to be abused and murdered.
