Throughout his young days at school and just afterwards, a number of things happened to Roald Dahl, which made such a tremendous impression he never forgot them. Boy is the remarkable story of Roald Dahl's childhood; tales of exciting and strange things - some funny, some frightening, all true.

    Magnífico!!! Una delicia haberlo escuchado!!!
Gracias por publicarlo. Fue entretenido hasta el final. Hay más publicaciones del autor en audio libro?
    Fantastic
What a brilliant book! And very well read! I'm extremely impressed by this. Well done.
    One Singular Sensation
I just love Roald Dahl, don't you?!
I remember being read this as a child and being captivated, particularly by the sweet shop tale, and the caning - and then drawing pictures of the various personalities and adventures during Primary School lessons. Later, in Secondary School, we were 'assigned' this book to read and write an essay about, and maybe because of my earlier familiarity with it, I won the prize for best project (a lovely edition of the follow up, Going Solo, which I had not had read to me as a child - it was reserved for my brother - so I was pleased to get my own copy! I must thank the English supply teacher we had that term - no other teacher would have been so inspiring as to offer a prize or take such an interest in my interest in the subject matter - lovely lady, "so let us now praise teachers who today are all so fine, And yours in particular is totally divine"). In one way or another, it's a book which has followed me throughout life.
It doesn't seem to matter who's reading it; the devilish fun, the fascination, the spirit of the author always comes across - but I must give special mention to Dan Stevens who gives a perfect reading here (one of my top 3 narrators: haven't heard him give a duff performance on audible yet, and I've listened to a good number of his readings - a gifted voice actor), of a man looking back at his early years with a twinkle and a tinge of sadness and of glee: the Dahl blend of nostalgia is the only kind I care to plunge within! I often wonder how his stories must have shaped my outlook on the world and my taste in literature. You can't come away from this without feeling hopeful and inspired, and uplifted by your fellow man. I now aim to read the recently published book of letters between Dahl and his mother, Love from Boy: surely perfect follow-on reading.
    brilliant!!
thoroughly enjoyed it!! loved the stories from Roal Dahl'd past. laughed throughout the book. simply brilliant.
Great read, such an interesting childhood he had!
Loved this when I was aged 13, love it even more now at age 35! If you like his fiction, reading about his real life adventures will show you how and where he got such brilliantly captivating ideas. *****

    Great Classic
Narration was clear, enchanting, and engulfed the listener. Easy to follow along and understand relationships. Even though it's based on a young boy's adventures, listening to it as an adult renews the imagination and increases the flow of creativity juices. Listening to books like these and narrated by BJ Harrison had me smiling in traffic and got caught up in the excitement of the story. Recommended to adults with a long commute and in need of an escape.
    Wonderful narration
This wonderful narration brings this iconic American Classic to life. The varied voices create vivid images in the listeners mind of the famous characters. The comic episodes are laugh out loud funny though clearly from another time in our history, and the drama, meant for young readers, entertains adult listeners as well. I'm glad I decided to reread this .
    Fun Summer Reading
I have never read Tom Sawyer. Reading it with our children has been fun. We plan to read more of Mark Twains work.

Length: 1 hr and 17 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 04-14-14

    Publisher's Summary:
The New York Times Outstanding Book of the Year for 1973 and an ALA Notable Book, The Real Thief is the story of Gawain, a most honorable goose. Trustworthy and proud, Gawain is given the keys to the kings Royal Treasury and put in charge of security. When rubies begin to disappear, and the world-famous Kalikak diamond vanishes, it looks as if someone is sacking the treasury. Only the king and Gawain have the keys - and why would the king steal from himself?
Now Gawain must find a way to preserve his reputation among his now sceptical friends. In the tradition of aesop and the brothers Grimm, William Steig uses animals to illustrate important human character lessons in a way that is both entertaining and poignant. A story of guilt, pride, and trust The Real Thief is one of his most touching and memorable stories, and has enchanted young and old alike.

    Love this author
Love this author. Such a good book. Other than being a really simple and fun story, there are obvious lessons about honesty with yourself and with others, trust, empathy, friendship, and forgiveness. I got this book as a gift for my 9 year old, who loves to read, but ended up reading it to her after she requested it as a bedtime read. Everything I've read from this author - most of their work, at this point - has been worth the time and the money.

Great read for my 8 year old.

Armed with a one-way ticket to New York City, small-town theater geek Nate is off to start rehearsals for E.T.: The Broadway Musical. Its everything he ever practiced his autograph for! But as thrilling as Broadway is, rehearsals are nothing like Nate expects: Full of intimidating child stars, cut-throat understudies, and a director who cant even remember Nates name.
Now, as the countdown to opening night is starting to feel more like a time bomb, Nate is going to need more than his lucky rabbits foot if he ever wants to see his name in lights. He may even need a showbiz miracle.
The companion audiobook to Better Nate Than Ever, which The New York Times called inspired and inspiring, Five, Six, Seven, Nate! is full of secret admirers, surprise reunions, and twice the drama of middle school...with a lot more glitter.
    Members Reviews:
Tim Federle Is the perfect narrator for his books!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This is a great story of a boy who feels he doesn't fit in, and how he is able to find his true place. It is so enjoyable to go though Nate's experiences. His joys, his fears and his discoveries. It is a book many people can relate to about growing up and discovering one's self.
What other book might you compare Five, Six, Seven, Nate! to and why?
I would compare this to Wonder because both Auggie and Nate felt they didn't fit in with their school mates and peers. They were able to find their place and be celebrated for being their wonderful selves.
Which character as performed by Tim Federle was your favorite?
My favorite character is definitely Nate. He is so real. You are actually listening to Nate speak. The fact that the author is narrating makes you really hear Nate how is meant to be and it is so real. Hilarious at times, vulnerable at times, he makes you love him.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
A story of losing and finding yourself in the Big Apple.
    Any additional comments?
Tim Federle is a hilarious narrator. I couldn't get enough of listening to him.
    Nate is Great!
If you could sum up Five, Six, Seven, Nate! in three words, what would they be?
    Follow your dream!
What other book might you compare Five, Six, Seven, Nate! to and why?
This book is pretty unique, but I might compare it to My Side of the Mountain (if you turned it inside out). Both main characters are boys with very particular ideas about how to live a happy life, both are surprisingly independent, and both appreciate their successes. So what if one is in the actual wilderness while the other is in a concrete jungle?
Which character as performed by Tim Federle was your favorite?
I loved them all, but if you're going to make me choose (why, Audible, why?!?) I pick Libby, because Federle just delivers her with perfect sass.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
You bet your freaking life. The last five chapters had me tied up in knots, because just about EVERYTHING happens to Nate. But not quite everything, which is better than everything.
    Any additional comments?
This book and its predecessor are great middle grade/YA picks, driven by both plot and character in turns.

Bewildered and confused, Alfie realizes his father is in a hospital close by - a hospital treating soldiers with shell shock. WWI Coming of Age Story
Alfie Summerfields fifth birthday happens on the day of the announcement of the First World War, old enough to remember young enough not to understand the weight. Alfies father enlists but before long the tone of the letters from his father changes and eventually they stop arriving. As he gets older and the war drone on, Alfie has resigned himself that his father has died in the war even though they have not received one of the dreaded military visits. Though snooping and a coincidence of fate, Alfie learns the truth. Not one to burden his mother, he takes it upon him to restore his family to how he remembers it when times were better.
The main story of the Summerfields is not the only casualty of this war that is told. I found the constant living on the edge, the tale of the conscientious objector, the reminder of life before indoor plumbing equally interesting.
I found this book to be well writing, the story interesting and the characters engaging. I have added John Boyne to my list of enjoyed authors. Euan Morton did a perfect job in narration.
