    Love it
A great read for older kids and grown ups. The story flows and will keep your interest.
    Full of emotion
Wow. Just wow. Regular readers know how much I prefer the main character to be female. From the summary I was really only interested in the Ghost Girl (as the mute girl gets called), but from the first paragraph I was hooked on Flip's story too. I got tearful on more than one occasion for all that Flip suffers. People that young shouldn't have to go through that loss. Taking care of Storm changes Flip's life. It gives him something to focus on while working through his grief, and the turmoil of emotions surrounding his missing mother.
Typically it isn't an easy ride - it's not just the bullies. Storm is far from a perfect horse (not his fault), and more than once Flip gets in trouble and nearly loses Storm for good. The ending is beyond happy, it really is. I'm so lucky I could read this in one sitting, there's drama in almost every chapter - the happy ones are a pleasure to read, with the others putting me on the edge of my seat because it felt like there was no way out other than the awful outcome which Flip thought would happen for each of the various scenarios, Storm ends up loving him, pulling him through and out from the hard times, helping him to forge bonds in his new life, and building bridges with Ghost Girl which will prove vital by the end. His grouchy uncle isn't all that bad, his aunt is wonderful to Flip, and his cousin is a sweetie who I loved to spend page time with.
I'll be lending this to a friend, and can't wait to reread it! Psst, I'd really like a sequel too!
I received a copy from the publisher for an honest review on my blog Nayu's Reading Corner http://nayusreadingcorner.blogspot.co.uk/2015/08/storm-horse-by-nick-garlick-young-adult.html
... of my own as a child neither did I like to read girl-and-horse stories
I was not one of those girls hanging around the stables wishing to get a horse of my own as a child neither did I like to read girl-and-horse stories. This book however is about a boy and his horse which is refreshingly new. It is about trust, respect and love. We get a story about the orphan Flip, the rescued horse Storm and an evil boy gang placed in an exotic landscape in the northern Netherlands. The chapters are short and ends with a cliff hanger which is perfect for bedtime stories. As a primary school teacher I have read many books for children and I can really recommend this book for anyone who likes to read an exiting book about a friendship that really warms the heart.

    Funny, Quirky Fiction
Funny, quirky young adult fiction - for Minecraft and zombie lovers. Very simple writing and extra-basic plot developent and progression - which makes it pretty funny, though you are not (or at least I wasn't) sure the author is actually trying to do that intentionally.
Wolves get thrown a bone and are pets, advancing army of zombies a very real threat (they spent a day training and preparing for a nasty fight) but move so slowly the main protagonist fell asleep while on night watch as "watching anything move that slowly would make anyone fall asleep". See what I mean? Silly, simple writing and a bit funny.
    Great read for young teens.
    Exciting encounters
I knew very little about Minecraft, however after reading this book and following Alex & Steve through their adventures I understood it more than I thought I would, does that make sense? The many characters, the many changes and reasons why it happened made for an exciting read. Simple yet the story pulled me in like I was actually in it (so cliché but true). Quick sensation than on to the next always anticipating Alex & Steve next move or encounters, always a surprise like the game. I forgot Minecraft is a game, the story helped me forget it was or was it the authorâs writing? Yes, it was the author's writing. The little that I knew about Minecraft helped me understand the concept, create and recreate than "BAM" everything changes or those darn zombies? No, it must be the magic apples or a hidden key or monsters, I can go on and on but next time. I thoroughly enjoyed it, to my surprise. Received a free digital download in exchange for a review, thank you MC. Thank you, Darlene Cruz
Fun story for kids of all ages.
Not my typical type of book to review. Since my boys all played Minecraft and the kids that I take care of play, I thought I would give this story a read.

    middle-grades, fantasy, witches, wizard, paranormal
I really liked this one, but think it is for a slightly older crowd than the first one. We raised a houseful of boys and now they've got boys in that bloodthirsty age group, so I think that they will gleefully enjoy reading it on their own or with friends. The story line picks up where the first one left off, and I surely wish I could find the next one!

    Great Family Road Trip Book
This is a review of the updated version of this book and the new audio version narrated by Simon Vance.
This book was so cute! A great Christmas story that I can see being made into a movie.
Marmel, head labeling elf he is in charge of labeling the naughty and nice and he is in a tizzy because Santa changed the rules and now no one is on the naughty list but Marmel has found a whole family (The Krumwerths) that he thinks should be on the permanent naughty list, no more chances they are just bad, bad, bad, at least according to Marmel. However, Santa wants to give them a chance to redeem themselves, much to Marmels chagrin. According to the rules Marmel must inform the family they are in danger of being on the naughty list forever, so he heads to the house and informs teenaged Amanda of the familys fate. We also get to see Santas brother RC (Reverse Claus) who lives on the South Pole and wears green and has green and white candy canes, which I will never look at without thinking of RC again!
I enjoyed the Krumwerth family too they used to have fun on Christmas but have somehow forgotten their Christmas spirit, but they arent the only ones Marmel seems to be having a problem with this himself and for and Elf that is a very bad thing to happen.
The story is told by Marmel & Amanda in alternating chapters as you see how they try to get their Christmas Spirit back. I enjoyed the family stuff and know what it is like when Christmas becomes more of a chore than the fun and family it is supposed to be. I also enjoyed the scenes in the South Pole and hope maybe RC will get his own book one of these days!
I truly enjoyed this book and can so see it as movie **Hello Hollywood Do You Hear Me? **
I highly recommend this fun book, even if you are done with your Christmas reads for the year I say pick one more up. I will be buying a paper copy for our library.
Simon Vances narration is very well done. This would make a great family roadtrip book!
    4 Stars
    a new favorite Christmas story.
This book is great fun for children of any age, even as old as 99. Hopefully, everyone who reads it will be filled with Christmas spirt. It teaches all of us a lesson on happiness and doing good.

Just finished reading this with my son. We've read all the Flat Stanley books and while we roll our eyes a lot and laugh at how ridiculous the books are my son was very upset at a part in this book. I don't want to give any spoilers but he doesn't like the cheating aspect. He feels like Flat Stanley cheated at the stadium.
