I made the mistake of reading the 3rd book in this series but I liked it so much that will read the rest of the series as well. Remington reminds me of Brendon Fraser.

    Good book.. So-so narration..
    Any additional comments?
The ending did seem rushed but over all it was a good read but not as good as The Naked Duke or The Naked Marquis but I still enjoyed it. I loved Robbie in the other two books and still loved him in his own book, too. I liked Lizzie a lot as well as Aunt Bea and Alton. And as to the reviewer who named the "top 10" (on Amazon) there was not one thing discriptive about Bea and Alton having sex, I'm 65 so I know how ugly that might have been, if it had been too descriptive, nothing I would have gone "eww" over. And the anal sex was mentioned in one thought by Felicity, not done. Just to clear that up. Anyway, I'm off to the next book in the series.
As to the narrator: She was really only ok. Sometimes the men sounded manly and sometimes they didn't. She was not consistant at all. I wouldn't throw rocks at her but I wouldn't go out of my way to listen to her again either.

Confronted, out of the blue, with the intimate knowledge of her husband's rakish past, Elizabeth too is obliged to reconsider long held tenets that otherwise threaten to tear them apart.

    Great story! Loved it!
I wasn't sure if I would like listening to the book but I was pleasantly surprised! I had the option of using a headset if others were around or listening while doing other things like making my tea! If you have been unsure just try it. I think you will like it!
    Darcy's tale & entertainment continue
While listening to Ms Hewitt's outstanding performance in reading "What He Would Not Do," I am not doing mundane everyday activities, rather I am transported to a time long since past. I am wearing flowing gowns and attending balls! Ms Dixon's sweeping landscape is made vividly real by this narrator's rich and authentic vocal talent. Her accents are flawless. Individual characters are well defined in tone & timbre and therefore are easily distinguished and differentiated. Although I look forward to the resolution of story lines and subplots, I find myself sad when the book concludes.
While certainly this genre of writing may not be for everyone, Ms Dixon creates a world true unto itself. Yes, some of the character's decisions may seem illogical to us in 2014, but 'read' very true to the time period in which the story is set. It does make me realize how fortunate I am to be a female in this century and to be grateful for the liberties I have, yet helps one to understand the norms of that society and appreciate the choices they made even if I do not agree with them by today's standards. It is lovely to journey back to that time and then to come home again when the story is concluded.
    Again, well done ladies!

COLON IS A BODY PART NOT THE LEADS NAME!
The narrator ruined this book. I just really wish they had kept the original narrator for the series. This narrator pronounced the male romantic characters name as colon. Really, how can you listen to a book that makes you think of colonoscopies every single time she mentions his name. It just doesnt work! HIS NAME IS COLIN!! IN not ON. I got through the book, but I just didnt enjoy it.
Could not get past this narrator!!
Would you try another book from Julie Garwood and/or Heather Wilds?
Julie Garwood yes but not Heather Wilds!!
What could Julie Garwood have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
She should have used the same narrator as she used in previous 3 books in this series.
What didnt you like about Heather Wildss performance?
    Nothing at all.
Disappointing Ending to a Fun Series
UghI usually love Julie Garwood, and while I hate to be negative, Castles, the 4th installment of the Crowns Spies series, was a real disappoint. The story of Colin, and Princess Alesandra just did not measure up to the quality of storytelling that readers have been conditioned to expect.
In the first three books, Colin was a very appealing character, and I was looking forward to his story, but in Castles, he was selfish, bitter, angry, and basically unappealing. As per formula, he comes around in the end to save the day, but it was too little-too late for me.
I actually hated the narration. Heather Wilds attempt to change character voices and accents was almost too painful to finish the listen. Unfortunately, the enjoyment of an audible experience is largely dependent on the quality of the narration.
Skip this one. You wont miss much.
    THE NARRATOR IS AWFUL
Is there anything you would change about this book?
I liked the other 2 books in this series but could not get through this one because the narrator is terrible. she mispronounced names and the accents were all wrong.
What other book might you compare Castles to and why?
The Lion's Lady, Guardian Angel, and The Gift were all read by Susan Duerden and i enjoyed them.
What didnt you like about Heather Wildss performance?
She drolled on and there is no life in this story.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
    maybe
    Never written a review
Is there anything you would change about this book?
The narrator sucked.... Love the series, loved this story but Omg the narrator made it horrible to get through.

    Publisher's Summary:
New York Times best-selling author Julie Garwood has captured the hearts of millions of listeners worldwide with timeless tales of love and soaring adventure. Now, returning to the enchanting world of her classic love story The Bride, she brings to glorious life the passion, intrigue, and rivalry of medieval Scotland....
Resigned to an arranged marriage to a highland laird she has never met, Lady Brenna journeys from England to Scotland certain she will suffer a loveless marriage. But en route to her betrothed, a rival band of Werce, painted warriors intercept her caravan and demand that she marry their leader -- the handsome, quick-tempered laird Connor MacAlister, the same man she'd repeatedly proposed to as a child while he'd been a visitor to her father's castle.
Though Brenna scarcely remembers the secret missives she'd sent to MacAlister declaring her love, she has never forgotten the tall visitor's dazzling, unexpected smile. Now older and wiser, Brenna harbors no illusions that Connor is in love with her -- indeed, after a hasty forest wedding, Connor assures her she can return home once she has borne him a son. Lady Brenna has no idea that her capture is merely the first act of vengeance against her betrothed, Connor's sworn enemy.
Determined to be happy, Brenna soon endears herself to most of the MacAlister clan, despite -- or perhaps because of -- her uncanny knack for getting into trouble. And although she comes to adore her brave, superstitious, gentle husband, she has no clue that Connor lives for the moments she whispers "I love you"...words she never meant him to hear. But, as she sets out to win the heart of the brave chieftain, a legacy of revenge ensnares Brenna in a furious clan war -- and only her faith in her gallant husband can save her....

    Narrator PERFECTION, delicious characters
Garwood once again created outstanding characters and their banter is the best element of the book. Heather Wilds is an EXCEPTIONAL narrator and is only second to Kate Reading in my opinion. This book is not as good as The Bride, but is still great and credit worthy. If you enjoy Garwood's characters then you will like these as well. I actually liked the first half of the book much better than the last half. The first half had me laughing and crying. Then it seemed to slightly flatten out, but I still enjoyed it very much.
    Loved the narrator
If you could sum up The Wedding in three words, what would they be?
Great love story. This is the first Julie Garwood book that I couldn't quit listening too. The narrator made the book.
    Incredible Narrrator
    Any additional comments?
I can count on Julie Garwood to give me a good book that I can escape into. But I really like the ones set in the Highlands. There's nothing like a Highland warrior. (Hot flash!) But no matter how good the story, the narration really makes a difference. Heather Wilds doesn't just read the story, she brings it to life. I want to listen to more stories read by Heather Wilds.
One of My Favorite Garwood Books!
Would you listen to The Wedding again? Why?
Yes. This is one of my favorite Garwood audiobooks.

    So Adorably Sweet!
This book is such a sweet and tender Highland romance. If you enjoy Cinderella type stories then you will enjoy this one. This book was romantic, funny and because it had a bit of mystery kept my interest throughout. It's really hard not to like this book.
The narrator was wonderful. She did a fantastic job with all the voices and made the listen fast and enjoyable.
This one is too sweet not to give it a listen.
    Romance is still ALIVE
I believe in Love at first sight Lynsay Sands brought that with Ross MacKay and Annabel even when they didn't know. Got to love the Scottish Laird.
GOOD DEFINITELY - BUT COULD HAVE BEEN GREAT
I loved LS's Argeneau vampire books and I love love love a braugh sexy hunky Highlander in a kilt so I preordered this and waited with baited breath and great expectations.
This book was an entertaining, enjoyable, light-hearted fun listen, that had it's moments, however it was all just a bit too 'nice' for my personal taste as I like my Highlanders broody, dark and sexy however Ross was kind, thoughtful and trusting but more of a Prince Charming type. Annabel was sweet, naive, likeable and funny as one minute she is about to be an English Nun then the next minute she's a married woman heading to her husband's castle in Scotland.
There's everything you'd expect from a LS listen - a nice plot with a who, what and why question to ponder over, nice characters, nice H/H but I felt it lacked any sexual tension, awareness or build-up that results in a frantic passion filled chapter or two as desire ignites between them - infact I think this could almost have been a YA listen. The plot seemed to happily meander the listener along but it just didn't raise my blood pressure any (well, maybe that's a good thing tho').?
Narrator did a great job with the many voices required of her.
Worth a credit? If you're looking for a light, enjoyable, easy going listen then Yes you won't be disappointed and for most of us LS's fans it'll be an auto download anyway.
Very lighthearted story- 3 1/2 stars overall
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Lynsay Sands is a talented author. I enjoy her lighthearted, humorous work. Today's world is filled with enough strife that it is good to read/listen to stories that put a smile on your face & touch your heart.

In this splendid New York Times best-seller, Julie Garwood brilliantly crafts the majestic story of a young Englishwoman determined to fight for her freedom...a woman whose life would be transformed by the rare, unexpected gift of love.

Only sixteen, already she possessed a strength of will that impressed all who looked past her golden-haired beauty. Yet when King John demanded that she remarry - and selected a bridegroom for her - it seemed she must acquiesce, until her beloved foster brother suggested she wed his friend, the handsome Scottish warrior Gabriel MacBain.
At first Johanna was shy, but as Gabriel tenderly revealed the splendid pleasures they would share, she came to suspect that she was falling in love with her gruff new husband. And it was soon apparent to the entire Highlands clan that their brusque, gallant laird had surrendered his heart completely. But now a desperate royal intrigue threatened to tear her from his side - and to destroy the man whose love meant more to her than she had ever dreamed!

    Beautifully Written Highland Tale
This story is beautifully written and the characters are so real to life. This is a highland story that has a backdrop of domestic violence. It may not seem unusual to read of domestic violence in highland historical romances but most stories just show it as common place. This book shows how Johanna deals with the abuse and handles it. Of course there is more to the story as it wouldn't be a highland story without the romance. There are many poignant moments that had me upset or mad but there were just as many times I smiled. It is more of a sweet tender highland story rather than a highland battle adventure. Its worth listening to.
Also, Rosalyn Landor was excellent as usual!!
    Love it
My favorite book, I have read the book many years ago and love it then! I have listened to many times since I bought it, and never grow tired of it
WOW... WHAT A JOURNEY, A PERFECT HIGHLAND ROMANCE
Now hold on and bare with me 'cause I'm about to gush here and probably say love and loved quite a few times - so apologies in advance.
I just love Julie Garwood's books, and this one especially as it's filled with such a rich array of strong, loveable, quirky and funny characters that you can't help but fall in love with. Then I love the way Johanna & Gabriel's (I definitely loved him) characters evolved as they grew closer together and they learn from and with each other as their love story unfolds. I also love the way JG writes - painting each scene for us to soak up and mentally visualise the clothes, the culture, the Castle, the Warriors, the fighting, the love scenes and all the other touching, tender, violent, funny and sad events contained within these precious hours of listening.

    Very Entertaining!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book when I read it years ago and now after listening to it I came to appreciate it in a whole new way. This book really grabbed my attention from the beginning and kept my interest throughout. Its romantic, funny and so delightful. This is one to keep on the revisit list.
The narrator was wonderful. She does a great job fluctuating her voice with the written word (i.e. whispering). It really makes the book come alive.
Great love story with unexpected plot
The descriptions of the plot can't begin to tell the real story without spoiling the story, so disregard most everything you read in the publisher's data. This is a delightful story with a fabulous pair of lovers, where the woman is delightful. There's humor and danger and plenty of loving and exciting action. It's the 2nd in the series, and though it can stand alone, I'd definitely start right at the beginning.
Another great book by Julie Garwood
    Any additional comments?
I purchased this book based on readers reviews and am so glad I did. This book actually has a couple of nice twists to it that I did not expect. Certainly made the story more interesting. Again here we have a strong female character and a kind but strong male character as well. Here we have again a woman who is raised by savages and turns out to be a great human being just as the last book in the series The Lions Lady. Wonderful passionate scenes and good storyline make it a nice read. Do women like this really exist back then? I d love to think so. I highly recommend this book.

    Nice story
I enjoyed this story line. It has romance, intrigue, a bit of British humor (not Monty Python humor, more like Dame Maggie Smith humor) and even had some unexpected events. Of course there were times when I wanted to slap Mary Anne for being so daft but overall I did enjoy the story and look forward to the authors other works.
    Delightful Story
This book is reminiscent of stories like Pride and Prejudice. Its is a sweet, elegant, and clean regency romance. This book is set in the first person which does take a while to get accustomed to but I think it adds to the intimacy of the story. Because this is a "clean" romance, the flirtation between Marianne and Philip is allowed to blossom into love beautifully. This book is filled with joy, anguish, mystery, danger, jealousy, yearning, anger and love. It is a sweet feel good romance that I will revisit again.
    Great book terrible narrator
I ended up reading this book. I couldn't stand to listen to it. Once I stopped the audio and picked up the book, I couldn't put it down. In my opinion, don't listen to this one, but don't miss out on reading it!
    Clean romance
Loved it! Sweet and simple! Quick read. They need to make it into a Hallmark movie! Great book for beach
    Enchanting Story
If you could sum up Edenbrooke in three words, what would they be?
I love this book! I've read it many times and decided that I would love to listen to it too. I love the performance/reader for this book. She does an outstanding job. It made me love this story even more. It's a beautiful heartwarming story!
What was one of the most memorable moments of Edenbrooke?
It's hard to pick just one. I enjoy the setting of the story, in the beautiful country of Edenbrooke. Marianne is so oblivious to Philip's feelings and it is wonderful to see how it all comes together. When Marianne paints the picture of Edenbrooke and Philip wants it is touching. It's a lovely story!
What does Emily Elizabeth Hamilton bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
She does an amazing job, I love her English voice and how it transports you back to the Victorian era in a realistic and dreamy way.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
    Phillip writing the love note.

He's enchanted by her fierce determination, her unusual beauty, and her quiet, unfailing strength. But wooing her will take more than a seasoned seducer's skill. For loving Genevieve, he discovers, means giving her back the freedom that was stolen from her - even if it means losing her forever.

    Captivating story with superb narration...
Just like every other historical romance that Maya Banks writes, I loooved it! I really liked the heroine of this story. She was kidnapped, repeatedly raped, her faced marked and mistreated for a year. Her body was broken but not her spirit. She found a way to be rescued and she even ended up saving the hero's life. Something I really like about this series is that the heroines all have some disability or imperfection and the stories talk about true beauty and love. The story is intense, sad, interesting, sexy and has the perfect ending!
Narration: Kirsten Potter is one of my favorite narrators. She can set fire to your ears when she narrates a love scene. She did an amazing job on this story as always.
STEP BACK IN TIME & PREPARE TO BE CAPTURED BY THIS
Phew - well I've just finished this harrowing Highland tale that tells of the darkest of cruelty and torment but also tells of the joy of redemption along with salvation as the acts of tenderness and forgiveness eventually brings healing and the deepest of love.
Maya Banks never fails in her role as an author to deliver to her fans a book that captivates you from the first chapter until the last and within those chapters she packs them full with great characters and conjures a story that is tragic, heartwarming, tender and sooo romantic. They never fail to reach your heart and you just know that this will be one you could easily revisit and will never forget because, for a short while, you lived amongst these Highland characters and felt their anguish, anger, torment, pleasure and passion.
The narrator did a great job too in breathing life and emotion to each of the characters and the situations that they found themselves in.
Worth a credit? Well, as long as Maya keeps writing these wonderful books then I'll happily keep buying them and then long for the next.... so I guess that's a big fat YES.
    Unconditional Love at its Best
This book is captivating and I couldn't put it down. It was just as good as the first book (Never Seduce a Scot). Genevieve went through so much hardship and Bowen loves her no matter what.....who doesnt like a book like that?
I really love how Maya Banks wrote this book. It almost seems like its a continuation of the first book.
