    Publisher's Summary:
The Whims of Destiny Jorian, the one-time unbeheaded king, was now safely retired from a long career of getting into trouble. But his younger brother Kerin lacked such wisdom. The outraged father of Adeliza had caught him in compromising circumstances with the maiden. So Kerin had to be sent at once on a mission by sea to the Far East. But Kerin's talent for trouble was not to be denied. First came Belinka, a sprite sent by Adeliza to bring him back safe for her. The ship captain believed Kerin was seducing his mistress. Though innocent this time, Kerin left hastily in a rowboat. That got him to a hermit-wizard's island - and a voyage on a pirate ship, where the kidnapped princess Nogiri was held captive. Kerin was unable to save her - until he gained the help of the hermit-wizard, who then betrayed him by seizing the girl and fleeing with her to be used as a human sacrifice. From then on, events became hectic as Kerin managed to save Nogiri again, helped by a wizard who was the enemy of the first one. Belinka was much distressed by what happened then between Kerin and Nogiri - with cause - as they set out again, this time to the Emperor of the Farthest East. There Kerin discovered more magic, and the Emperor learned that no man should be absentminded when using a powerful spell. But it was later that Kerin discovered the limitations of roller skates.

Methinks this is a wild adventure
I have been familiar with the name of L. Sprague de Camp for some time, but I am only now delving into his fiction. This book is a little peculiar; I can name several things I didn't love about the book, but overall I found it an interesting, enjoyable read. Kerin is our honorable barbarian (branded the latter for the sole reason that he travels to the east in his recorded journey) whose family sends him on a business trip immediately after the father of the supposedly "virginal" Adeliza (she is colorfully described by one character as having "a hot notch in her crotch") catches him in a hayloft with his daughter. He journeys to Kuromon to retrieve information on advanced clock technology. The journey is not an easy one. After bartering his way on to a ship, he is forced to flee from the jealousy of the captain's lust for the female navigator. After enduring some months with the talkative, self-exiled wizard Pwana on an otherwise deserted island, he finds himself in the hands of nasty pirates intent on buggering him and eventually killing him. Managing to escape unbuggered, he continues his journey with a princess rescued from the clutches of the dastardly pirates. All too soon, though, the princess falls into the clutches of Pwana, who intends to sacrifice her to his god. As if rescuing princesses is not enough, Kerin must also deliver a secret message to the Kuromon government, evade the continuing threats and attacks of the evil wizard Pwana, and abide the torment of the sprite Belinka who was hired on behalf of Adeliza to keep him away from other women (particularly the comely princess) while he is away from home.
One thing that hinders the flow of the narrative, particularly early on, is the dialect of the characters, each of whom speaks like a second-rate Shakespearean actor, with "methinks," "cansts," "thankees," and the like permeating the narrative.

Really looking forward to Future Books
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would absolutely recommend this book to a friend. I enjoyed the base premise of a boy who had been "lost" and came back to reclaim his power.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The White Mists of Power?
It would have to be the revelation of the bards identity at the dinner.
What about Gildart Jacksons performance did you like?
I liked that the readers voice was not obtrusive. It made getting into the story much easier.

    Title: Blind God's Bluff
    Subtitle: Billy Fox, Book 1
    Author: Richard Lee Byers
    Narrator: Adam Verner
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 8 hrs and 43 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 01-08-13
    Publisher: Audible Studios

    Publisher's Summary:
Ante up for the game of a lifetime!
Billy Fox, a small-time gambler on a losing streak, has more than enough problems on his hands, owing too much money to some very impatient people. But when he rescues a blinded stranger from a swarm of bloodthirsty fairies, Billys life gets a lot more complicated....
Seems the stranger is actually a powerful local god who is involved in a high-stakes Florida poker tournament against various supernatural challengers. And with his eyes currently missing, he needs somebody to take his place at the gaming table. Before Billy knows it, he finds himself playing against the likes of an ancient Egyptian mummy, an unbearably seductive succubus, a mechanical man, an insect queen, and a cannibalistic beast-man. And not just cards are in play; magic, bloodshed, and cheating are not only expected, theyre encouraged.
Everybody, including a sexy satyr-girl with her own cards up her sleeve, thinks that Billy is in way over his head. But Billy is a born gambler and, when the chips are down, he might just change his luck for good!
Blind God's Bluff is an outrageously addictive urban fantasy that will keep you listening until the very last hand.
    Editorial Reviews:
Billy Fox is in a tight spot. He owes money to the wrong people and now he has found himself in a high-stakes poker game with the likes of a mummy, a succubus, and a mechanical man. Billy is going to need more than just luck if he is going to find his way out of this one. Adam Verner's performance fits Billy's brash persona perfectly. Verner relates the humor and suspense with stunning ease. Fast-paced and fantastic, Blind God's Bluff is an outrageous romp not to be missed.

    Different, but needs some work.
Is there anything you would change about this book?
it needs to be more in depth. If you don't like poker then this book will not have a great deal of appeal. The world seems interesting and it would have been good to see it better developed.
If youve listened to books by Richard Lee Byers before, how does this one compare?
I like a lot of his warhammer novels and this is definitely a whole different type of book.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
The narration was good and matched the pace of the story. I think I would not have finished the book whereas the narrator adds enough o make the audio book worth finishing.
Was Blind God's Bluff worth the listening time?
It was, but I wouldn't make it a priority to listen.
    Fun, entertainment
The cover of this book doesn't really represent the content in my opinion. This was a fun urban fantasy book, about a gambler who ends up biting off more than he can chew when he stops to help an injured homeless man who turns out to be a god. He ends up getting involved with a supernatural poker game where the stakes are incredibly high.
The story was fun, enjoyable with a likable main character, and I liked the narration.
The only problem I had with the story, is that the bad guy was just just awful, and there just wasn't much reason for him to be that much of a jerk- especially when Kindness would've gotten him so much further.
I'm looking forward to the sequel- hopefully with the same narrator!

Quite possibly the worst book ever..
Would you try another book from Adam Graham and Andrea Graham and/or Scot Wilcox?
    No not ever!
What was most disappointing about Adam Graham and Andrea Graham s story?
Christian theme and poor writing !
Would you be willing to try another one of Scot Wilcoxs performances?
Perhaps but i would want to research the book more carefully
You didnt love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
    No
    Any additional comments?
None i would share with polite company
Has potential, doesn't really live up to it
I would like to give this a 2.5 star review because I think it has potential. But it needs a good story editor and it needs to figure out what it is trying to do. Conceptually the idea is good. What if the world biggest comic book fan was given super powers. Lots of good science fiction potential. I am not a huge fan of making the guy an idiot, but I can deal with that. There are some issues with story telling because a lot of the story feels like filler and some of the filler stories introduce problems into the plot (like how are there other superheros).
The biggest problem is probably not a problem for everyone. But as a Christian, I am not a fan of Christian fiction that knock you over the head with salvation and then all the problems go away. I don't think that is how the real world works. This story is a superhero story and then makes a hard right turn into a divorce story of the superhero because he is a dufus that hasn't actually paid any attention to his wife and family and refuses to talk about the fact that he is now a superhero. Of course she is going to leave him. And the anti-marriage divorce lawyer also just minimize the potential of real problems instead of making the story better.
I like the potential. I picked up the second book in the series and I think I will read it eventually. But it was not a great book.
My full review is on my blog.
Religious propaganda in a super hero shell.
What about Scot Wilcoxs performance did you like?
Scot Wilcox really tried to make this entertaining. He changed his voice for each character, and really went over the top with Powerhouse.
Was Tales of the Dim Knight worth the listening time?
I'm torn about this. This could have a been a fun yet stereotypical super hero story. It didn't take itself too serious and had many funny moments. What I didn't like was how they put all the religious propaganda into it. The book is broken into chapters with the superhero vs some bad guy, and about half of them end up involve religion, going to church, or something else along those lines. No where in the publisher's summary or the author's website does it mention anything about religion and how large a part it plays in this book.
Please don't take this to mean I'm anti-religion as I consider myself a religious person.

    Critic Reviews:
"Smiths story moves along at a pleasant pace. The period in which the novel is set is more than interesting enough." (RT Book Reviews)
"Revenant Eve works on two fronts: as a terrific time-travel thriller and as a Dobrenica entry (see Coronets and Steel and Blood Spirits). The mentor and the mentee are fully developed so that the trials and tribulations of both seem genuine.... Fans will relish this exhilarating thriller while newcomers will find this a fine taste of Dobrenica." (Midwest Book Review)
"Recalling The Count of Monte Cristo and The Prisoner of Zenda in plot and theme, this cross-world fantasy/romance should appeal to YA and adult fans of the genre." (Library Journal on the Dobrenica Series)

    Silly little story
What did you love best about Divide and Rule?
it's quirkiness. About America adapts to being ruled by aliens.

Updated some of the outdated, not very PC attitudes regarding women.
What about Mike Chamberlains performance did you like?
    Nothing in particular stands out.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
It was more of a silly book than a "moving" book.

    A really good start but.
Like the other books in this collection, I was really looking forward to reading this book. But to me the ending was a bit weak especially when the next book takes place four years later. I had just finished the next book before doing this review, and like it much better. Don't get me wrong I liked most of this book it's just the ending I wish was a little better. Aletto and his sister Lialla, return to confront their uncle bringing with them the three outworlders and the near-thurka Davhin along with more friends picked up along the way. Their uncle gets more desperate and vicious, trying to stop them from making it back to the fort. Further exploring the magic and culture of this alternative Earth.
    Great book
This was the third book in the sixth book series. Ru Emerson is a great author and I have enjoyed all her books.
I wish people still wrote like this
This is a reprint from the time when authors still took pride in crafting their work and had to impress a team of editors before they could get published. It's a real world, inhabited by three dimensional characters. One of the best fantasy series ever written.
    Solid end
A solid end. I like the way it resolves, not many books do that, especially after all the building. Enjoyable end to an enjoyable series.

Are you ready for what comes next?
Accustomed to a life of cosseted seclusion at home with his parents, Valentine is suddenly faced with making his own way in the world. His new life is quickly upended, however, when he's mugged at gunpoint. Finding shelter at a mysterious inn run by the dour Mrs. Anna, he soon encounters a Bosnian woman with a hole where her stomach used to be, an American entrepreneur with a scheme to implant televisions into people's foreheads, and a Catholic priest who attempts to lure him down inside a kitchen sink. Then things start getting strange....
In this story based loosely around the state of Bardo from The Tibetan Book of the Dead - an intermediate state where the dead arrive prior to rebirth - dying is the easy part. Getting out of Bardo and returning to the land of the living is a far more perilous proposition, and unless you know what you're doing...you might never leave.
An odd, yet oddly touching tale of life, death, and the space in-between.

    An unexpected gem...
This is a compelling little novel from an author whose work I had not previously encountered. Since reading it (in only two sittings), I have subscribed to his blog, and will definitely read more of his work.
As a fine example of magico-realism, this takes as its premise the state of uncertainty that is the post-mortal realm. From the outset, it is witty and compelling, moving seamlessly from ridibulous to sublime. It also succeeds in carrying a philosophical message while deftly avoiding "preachiness". If you like Flann O'Brien, you will love this.
Excellent narration, and the author seems very pleased with it, which is always a good sign!
