Merken Sie sich diesen Namen: Joe Abercrombie wird Fantasy-Geschichte schreiben!

So packend realistisch, zynisch und bissig im positiven Sinn, wie es dem Genre schon lange gefehlt hat.

Starts slow, but picks up the pace nicely

This is the 2nd book in the series, the first of which is Dack's Truth. It continues to chronicle the quest of young Dack, who is trying to re establish the King's Tournament and also chronicles the return of Lucan.

Like the last book, the book is written in a fantasy environment with castles, kings, and shapeshifters. The book is 216 pages long, which is still too short by novel standards. Flow of the story is more like a short story than a novel, which takes away from the potential of this book.

Halfway through, the book accelerates to fast paced story which really shines through. I only wished the story picked up the pace sooner. The book ends without the story being incomplete (it screams "To be continued..."). If the author plans on continuing the story, I hope he keeps the same pace this book ended with. Also, the books need to be longer, about 300 pages so some focus can be placed on the history of the land as well as description of the environment the characters are in.

Great potential, but not long enough

I found the story to be quite interesting, but I found the flow of the story hard to follow. The book is approximately 200 pages long, which is short by normal novel standards (which usually average around 300 - 500 pages). The story is written like a short story rather than a novel as the there is little to describe the characters or the environment. Personally, this made it difficult for me to read through the book as there was little to focus my mind's eye on.

The story has great potential. The characters are engaging, yet flawed. Fixx is the personal favorite of mine as his character is quick witted and humorous.

I believe if the author spent a little more time developing the history of the land, as well as describing the environment the characters were in, it would help to bring about the full life of the story.

Read the other books in the series first...

This book is a terrific ending to the series. As long as you have read the previous books, this one keeps the faith and closes out all of the story lines wonderfully.

Title: Darker than the Storm

Format: Unabridged

Length: 8 hrs and 58 mins

Language: English

Release date: 04-11-14

Publisher: Audible Studios

Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 3 votes

Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Fantasy: Epic

Publisher's Summary:

Freda Warrington's 'orphan novel' is actually part of the Blackbird series, telling the story of what happened to Ashurek and his love, Silvren, after the end of A Blackbird in Silver Darkness and before A Blackbird in Amber Twilight

Prince Ashurek of Gorethria looked up amazed. The towers of Niankan-Siol soared skywards, all blue and gold and glass, seemingly as light as air. Walkways, weightless and swaying, threaded among the pinnacles and spires, while winged creatures and air transports flitted between the glittering heights. But Niankan-Siol was a living illusion. The towers were deep-rooted in the despised under-city where an enslaved people huddled in earth-bound decay.

While beyond the teeming city, the whole land was dissolving into Chaos and darkness as the swirling demonic energy of the Maelstrom tore the sorcery-doomed world of Jhensit apart. Prince Ashurek, grieving for Silvren, his lost love, looked up and shuddered.
