What did you love best about Sky Pirates Over London?

Aldora Fiske - from her name to her deeds. She was quite fun to follow around, especially her interactions with Jack Fowler.

What did you like best about this story?

The steampunk London setting, the prim & proper mixed with hand to hand combat, and the threatening umbrella.

What about Dawn Hydes performance did you like?

She was a great choice for Aldora Fiske.

Don't spend your money!

While the idea of this story is brilliant, the execution of storytelling is most decidedly not! Having not read the print version of this book, I don't know if the reader is in experienced, inept or the writing so hard to comprehend that she cannot decipher how to read the story. I was really looking forward to this book, but can't abide listening to such a broken and poorly read piece.

Review of Spell of Intrigue, Dance of Gods #2

Good, Good series, there are only four books in the series. The series starts off very well and kinda slows down with everything getting killed and destroyed in the end; like Mayer Alan Brenner had lost his muse. But it is well written and enjoyable and worth reading, lot better than the average Fantasy that is on the stand today.

Excellent fantasy adventure

(Borrowed through Kindle Unlimited) This is an excellent fantasy adventure series, and this book continues revealing what magic (in this world) actually is. I highly recommend this series.

Better than Good!

What can I tell you? Read this guy! I don't know what he's doing or where he is now, but the series is more than worth it. If you like Douglas Adams, Robert Rankin, Roger Zelazny, Greg Costikyan - well, you'll love Mr. Brenner.

Great book and series

I don't know what happened to this author and why he stopped writing but this whole series was great. This series has a lot of action and intrigue. I thought the plot was well thought out. I hope he writes something new.

Another satisfying romp through the Realms

Samantha Henderson does a admirable job with her Forgotten Realms novel entitled,Dawnbringer: A Forgotten Realms Novel. Set mainly near Turmish and the Vilhon Wilds but also in in other parts of the realm, the novel is mainly the story of two Devas and the build-up to protecting two lovers battling amidst the storm of outer-family fueding. There is a period in the begining, roughly 30% of the book, where the description of the novel fails ultimately because you don't see any mention of the merchant houses or any fued until much later in the book. However, the begining is enjoyable because it sets up the story to be something truly unique in the forgotten realms universe and that is why I gave it 4 stars.

Positives:

1. The begining, like I said it is a truly unique appraoch in the Forgotten Realms universe.

2. The Deva pair and the flashbacks associated with them. Not to spoil anything but these two are very interesting.

3. I always love a jaunt through Erlkazar, especially at night...

Negatives:

1. This is the major negative I hae with this story. Time Jumps. This book jumps from 1476 DR (or so) to 1600 DR. The time Jumps are really a major issue to me, I like to see what happens and how they happen. I don't like when time jumps and the author has to tell me what happend between that time. I do understand it was necessary for the story but I still didn't enjoy it.

All in all, a successfull Forgotten Realms novel that once again gives a look into the world we all love.

Quite good, should have been longer

Devas seem to be the focus of quite a few FR books as of late (seeCircle of Skulls: Ed Greenwood Presents: WaterdeepandSword of the Gods (Forgotten Realms: Abyssal Plague, Book 2)) and while each author took a different approach to depict devas, i must say i liked this one the best by far.

It is a bit strange to give 4 stars to a book that really has no weak point. Writing is good, plot is very good and unpredictable, characters are interesting, and pacing is just as it should be. However, i feel as if this book could have been much better with another 300 pages, effectively double the length it has. There are too many things happening for 336 pages it has. There are 3 distinct periods in this book, and every time you familiarize with the characters in one period, that part of the story is over, and a new period starts. It is very hard to attach to the characters in that way.

That large time span the book covers is at the same time its biggest strength, but also its biggest flaw. I dont understand why are the Wizards so insistent on 280-340 pages in each book.

The sequel to "The Islander" Book One of the Stormlands, was an absolute treasure of fantasy, adventure and a splash of romance mixed together in a wonderful blend of story-telling.John Maddox Roberts did a wonderful job of mixing in the real life learned strengths of Hael (hero) and a touch of a higher power type Colorful, adventureous and a pick up and don't put down kind of book.

A quietly Punny fantasy tale

More entertaining than book 1, this off-beat tale of a less than stellar former football player who finds himself in circumstances he could never have imagined will have you chortling and snorting with it's humor. In book 1, he went through the pantry wall to a fantasy land, found that his sister was not dead. Nope. She had been turned into a duck. He did find her. Now, he acquires others who will help him to find the means to have the spell negated. No spoilers, read it for yourself, and enjoy!

Narrator Jack performed this delight in a laid-back droll manner which enhances the fun immeasurably.

The quest continues ...

I love finding a new series to enjoy, and the second book of The Quest for the White Duck trilogy doesnt disappoint! I was glad to see that humor is an integral part of this novel, just as it is in the first book. Our hero, Gideon, successfully completed his quest in the first book, and at the beginning of the second is a bit at loose ends, wondering what he should be doing now with his life, in this strange new world beyond his pantry door. But before he arrives at a workable solution, a new emergency (luckily) arises, and Gideon must put away his angst and introspection and once again play the hero. This book has a dragon, a giant, and witches, in addition to a few other nasty little critters. Gideon and his team, including the giants niece, his friend the goat-horse Red, and the White Duck and her beau, take them all on, and though the outcome is in question a number of times, the conclusion is quite satisfactory. I was happy that Jack Checkijian was again the reader for this book, as he handles the humor and Gideons questioning of his quest mates so well. I cant wait to listen to the third book!

My fave in the series

The final two books in this series are narrated by a new voice actor from the first one, and although he doesn't have any really standout character voices like Wren did, he is also much better overall. He gets the pronunciation of everything right, the pacing is good and the emotions he infuses the dialogue with are incredibly moving. There was one section in particular that I relistened to about five times before I moved on because it was so powerful - part of that was the amazing writing, but the narration really enhanced it. I still don't know if I'd recommend listening to the audiobooks if you haven't actually read the series first, but maybe that's because I adored the experience of actually reading them so much. Basically, no matter how you get them, they're going to be good.

The Lumatere Chronicles are Brilliant.

These books just keep getting better. Often you read a first book in a series and the following ones never meet your expectations, however this author is a magical writer, they just keep getting better and better. New and old characters, it's great seeing the old characters continue after their happily ever after and get fully submerged into the lives of new ones. Fantastic book and really enjoyed the narration for these books.

Thoroughly Enjoyable.

The Lumatere Chronicles, are right up there with some of the best books that I have read. Marchetta's characters are three dimensional, distinctive, diverse and believable. Her narrative is entertaining and her plot exceptional. This is a totally entertaining story, from start to finish.

Dashed excitement

I was excited to get this book and had been wanting to read it ever since I first came across it on Barnes and Noble. Unfortunately, it was not as good as I had hoped. The story line is interesting and I liked the whole human and elf getting married despite the animosity between the two races. This, of course, leads to the birth of the half elves.

The story begins with Donovan and his friends being rescued by the elf Alayna. She takes them to her home and convinces the king to allow her to train them as Elven Rangers. Fast forward 10 years later and the Princess Brandela is set to fulfill her duty as the king's daughter. Brandela gets kidnapped by the barbarian Garock and Donovan sets off to rescue her and avenge Alayna's death.

The story did not flow well. It's only real saving grace was the fact that it read quickly. It started off well with Alayna saving the children and adopting them. And it maintained an interesting pace up until Brandela is rescued by Donovan. After that, it started to read like a romance novel. They suddenly fall in love, which seemed a bit quick for me as there was no time spent building their relationship.

I found the battle scenes to be too quick. They would have just begun and then it was over. While on the flip side, the author spent chapters going over Brandela's and Donovan's personal feelings towards each other. And much of that was repetitive and made the story drag.
