    Format: Unabridged
Length: 15 hrs and 54 mins

    Publisher's Summary:
Hailed as "a sweeping saga, spiced with exciting, unexpected plot twists" (Publishers Weekly), Judith Tarr's richly imagined Avaryan fantasy series has gained a broad and devoted following that eagerly awaits each new book. Now, after more than five years, Judith Tarr at last offers her many fans a stunning new chapter in this majestic epic.
A wild, spoiled princeling of the house of Han-Gilen, Indaros Karelios is handsome, arrogant, a seducer and tavern-crawler with little regard for the noble line that spawned him. But Daros is also a mage, unruly, untrained, and unbound by the constraints that block other workers of magic.
Caught violating the mages' gravest prohibition, crossing through the forbidden gates between the worlds, Daros is brought to judgment before the Lady Merian, ruler of the Golden Empire, Mistress of the Gates, and heir of Avaryan. But in Daros' eyes, Merian sees something no one else has seena power that far exceeds any she has ever known, and a burning passion that kindles her own restive desires. Unable to take his life, Merian exiles Daros to serve the one person who might tame him, the Emperor Estarion, the near-immortal who relinquished his rule to live a simpler life in the lands to the north. As Daros learns to control his dawning powers under Estarion's discipline, he discovers a hideous truth: A vast, inexorable wave of darkness is approaching, devouring world after world. Recklessly seeking its limits, Daros vanishes into the chill night, and Estarion, too, is swept up by the shadow, landing on the shores of darkness, where he begins a new life in an ancient land plagued by demons of the night.

    Fantasy
I hate the cover of this book, but once again the author bound me to one of her worlds, even a bit slow to start,I read it in a day.So now have to check out if there are more.
    Love it
Book arrived on time and was in perfect condition it was a gift for my grandson so imconfident he will love it as this will fill out his collection
    tremendous epic fantasy
A hedonist of the worst order, Indaros Karelios seeks a good time whether he is wenching of drinking. Nothing else really matters to the member of the aristocratic house of Han-Gilen. Daros actually has talent, but chooses to hide his abilities so he could avoid having to attend Mage School. He fears that would cramp his style.
When Daros gets in deep trouble and has to appear before the current Lady of the Gates, the Golden Emperor Merian sees inside to the very soul of Daros. She concludes that the wastrel is a strong but untrained mage. She decides he will be allowed to live but he must be punished. Lady Merian exiles Daros by sending him to her grandfather to receive the training he needs to control his power. Now a student disciple of the mighty Emperor Estarion, Daros soon is alone battling against the growing darkness of demons destroying his world one land at a time. His mentor has been dispatched by the evil one to a more mundane orb called earth.
TIDES OF DARKNESS, the latest Avaryan Chronicles, is a tremendous epic fantasy that will send genre readers in search of the previous novels, all wonderful entries. The story line makes the fantastic seem authentic as if Judith Tarr has visited this magical plane in her real life. The growing terror adds to the belief that this realm exists outside of the fertile imagination of the author.

I wasn't happy with the ending...
it seemed incomplete, or it gives room for another book. However, Book 5 is about what happened to Ashurek and Silverun after they leave the Earth and go to the World where Silverun learned magic, which is where the place where the protagonist in this book was raised and where she learned to use magic, and not a continuation of this book. Still, I have really enjoyed listening to this series and I'll probably purchase Book 5, but I have other books downloaded to my phone already, and I think I'll take a break from the Blackbird world for now. As for the narrator, he's excellent, but only when I listen at 0.5x. He just talks WAY to fast for me, but at 0.5x he's just fine. I especially like the voices he uses for the demons.

    Cracking entertainment!
A fine instalment of the Steelhaven trilogy. After the "heralding" of book one, this sequel ramps up the pressure and the atmosphere. Ford is very strong on plot; whilst his characters sometimes seem familiar, recognisable fantasy mainstreams this is not really a weakness as they do not always stick to the rules and do what you might expect. There is barely time to gather breath as hectic yet finely crafted events come thick and fast. By the conclusion it's all set up nicely for the final novel in the trilogy, which I await with impatience.
A word of praise for narrator David Thorpe who imbues each character with a unique and fitting voice and allows to story to race along at just the right pace.
Perhaps not quite as grim as Abercrombie, not as dark as Mark Lawrence nor as deep as GRRM, but cracking entertainment and heartily recommended.
    Woven together beautifully
This second instalment of the Steelhaven trilogy brings the characters closer together and connections between them are becoming clearer. This is a character driven novel and although the impeding war provides the backdrop it is the desire to know what happens to our various 'heros' that makes me want hear more.

    Incredibly awesome book
I could not put this book down. It took me two days to read it and I have now bought the next book that he has written. If you love Atlantis and the Ancient Gods of the past and lots of energy and archaeology and mystery and finding clues. You will just love this book same as I did. 5 Stars to JC De La Torre. LOVED IT!
Wairing for the other shoe to drop. . .
Some interesting ideas here and reasonably well written. Worth a read and pursuing the sequel. The author warns us that he did not revise or proofread the book. This accounts for the errors and rare, but amusing, flights into meaninglessness. It also explains some radical twists that suggest that the author changed his mind about what kind of book to write. Hopefully, this also what explains the occasional sophomoric interludes.
If you have a kindle, get the sample first and see if it interests you. It's certainly cheap enough to take a chance.
A romp through the ancient world.
Who hasn't been fascinated by the legend of the lost continent of Atlantis? Scholars, adventurers, and readers alike have spent lifetimes trying to get to the bottom of the mystery, and still it enchants us. Now, J C De La Torre takes us on an action-packed thrill ride in search of the legend.
Best-selling author, Dan Ryan, is our guide on this tour of the ancient world. Ryan's life is suddenly turned topsy-turvey when his wife and daughter are killed in a car accident, and he begins to wonder what he will do with the rest of his life. He finds his answer when the ancient messenger of the gods, Hermes, appears to him with a proposition. Zeus and the other gods have chosen Dan to lead an expedition to find the lost world of Atlantis where they have been imprisoned for some 12,000 years.
The journey begins at an archaeological dig in the Greek isles where Hermes reveals the location of an ancient tablet. The tablet provides a clue, which leads Dan and his group of experts to the Egyptian city of Alexandria.

    Five Stars
Good book, good start to a series.
The Books Deserve 5 Stars Amazon Gets a Thumbs Down on this One!
This listing is for a set of three books (or possibly a single volume containing three books). But it's VERY misleading!
If you order the physical books, you'll probably get them, but if you order the Kindle version you WILL NOT!
If you order the Kindle book, although this listing is for all three books, you'll ONLY get the first book!
Amazon SERIOUSLY dropped the ball on this one! The rating would be 5 stars, except that I feel ripped off by Amazon!
As far as the books are concerned, I read them when they first came out and several times since, and they stand out in my memory over the years as some of the best fantasy I've ever read!
These are stories of people with different abilities and differences in personalities and how they interact and fit together and work together, and, in some cases, don't get along together. Overall, they contain everything you'll find in life: problem solving, love, friendship, adventure, and much more.
It starts with Lenardo, who is a Reader. He can tell what other people are thinking. He lives in an empire where Readers are both respected and feared. His empire is regularly attacked by the country it adjoins, where there are no Readers, but there are Adepts: people who have abilities to do things like set fires and move things with their minds.
This is the story of how Readers and Adepts meet, get to know each other, solve their differences, and make the world a better place together. It's a story of real, three dimensional people set against a tapestry of two different civilizations.
Jean Lorrah, I'm sorry. These books really deserve a 5 star rating, and a better description. I'm just so annoyed over the way Amazon cheated me, that I'm almost speechless. I tried to contact Amazon like you said to do, but there is just NO way they will allow me to contact them! Maybe they'll read this review.
One of the best Fantasy series ever written.
The entire Savage Empire series is one of the most entertaining, well thought-out series I've ever read. Although lacking the humor of some other popular stories (the Jhereg books and the Belgariad come to mind) this series kept me reading to the point that I devoured 6 out of 7 books over a weekend. Savage Empire is a little easier reading than Jhereg and not as long as, say, Pawn of Prophecy. These stories are so well written that events in the seventh book actually disturbed me to some degree. THAT'S good writing!
    Savage Empire
This is the first book in the Savage Empire Series.

    Caught by surprise!
This book was much better than I thought it would be from the description. It is interesting, suspenseful and the plot moves along quickly. The plot was fresh and not predictable as many books are. I would recommend to friends to read it!
    It's pretty good!
Okay, this take on the usual sci-fi is a bit strange, but stick with it. It is a very good story and I already ordered the second book so I could continue reading. Great idea and storyline was well conceived. :)
    looking forward to book 2
very interesting read, enjoyed reading this book and looking forward to reading book 2. Would defiently give this book 4 stars.
    Was hoping for more

Ravens and Cats: Who Will Win
Peter is human but also a raven. He only wants three things in life--to hide his raven soul, to have a girlfriend, and dancing.
This book follows Peter's life (and Cai's, his raven self)--for when he was a youngster and just finding out about the raven inside of him to when he is out of school and an adult. The first female he is interested in is red-headed Tamara. But he finds out she isn't what he thinks she is--she is a tiger warrior. He needs to stay away from her before she kills him. Along the way, he meets another girl who has a special little dog. Between them, will Peter survive or will Tamara get him in the end.
I really enjoyed this book, the story kept me turning pages and I love the "history" and the imagery that Leah Cutter writes in her book. I can't wait to read the next one.
    Wonderful!
I know I say it after every one of her books, but Leah Cutter writes amazing stories! They have such explosive imagery that jumps from the pages to play in your mind.
    Brilliant
Another fantastic installment from Cutter. She manages to sculpt a world out of fantasy out of thin air without leaving the reader with any questions, all the magical elements are perfectly integrated with the world we know. Her descriptions are lovely, and this book is a captivating and easy read that keeps your attention.
    Raven, tiger ... and DOGGY!
I enjoyed this book a lot. It was a fun romp, a straightforward light read. The girlfriend's little dog always made me smile. I'm partial to dogs, but that dog is extra-special!
