All hell has broken loose in the Forest of Tar. Thousands of demonic Feeders consume everything in their path, but top of the menu is dwarf flesh.
Nils has been captured by the Liche lord Otto Blightey but would sooner be dead, and Nameless is on the run, carrying a warning of doom to the last of his people.
As the Liche Lord and his horde of Feeders relentlessly pursue him, there is little time for Nameless to settle old scores, mend bridges, and pray that the survivors of his butchery at Arx Gravis can forgive him just enough for him to save them.
Only problem is he's not sure he has the strength or the courage for the task.
With the sentient ax of the dwarf lords as petrified as everyone else, the last hope of the dwarves lies in the hands of a shapeshifting assassin with a reputation for self-preservation at all costs.

"The Bane of the Liche Lord"... Ray Nicholson's Reviews 'Fantasy Adventure Book of the Year - 2012'

Spoilers
The Liche Lord has all the advantages... he's got the sentient and malevolent Ebon Staff, a new host (Silas' body) and a soul (well maybe not... lol) that is morally bankrupt and totally without a conscience. Oh, and if that's not enough, he's got a minion of 'feeders' at his beck and call. Nameless and his trusty axe 'Paxy' along with the few remaining dwarves don't stand a chance... just don't tell them that.

Some thoughts on "Bane of the Liche Lord"...
The Pros:
1.) superbly written, deftly told
2.) easy to read... names that by and large were easy to pronounce and told with characters that spoke with a distinct British/Scottish inflection, that seemed a perfect dialect for this largely Dwarvian tale.
3.) humor... although maybe not as prominent as in some of the other books in this series, there were nonetheless some great moments that had me laughing out loud (plus there were some interesting descriptions and word play that added to the brilliance of the overall prose.
4.) some horror descriptions that will make your skin crawl.
5.) several chase/fight scenes that were tense and thrilling to read.
6.) map... beautifully rendered with a subtle coloring and detailing. (but see Cons below)
7.) an action vs drama ratio that was close to perfect; perfect from the point of view that even the quiet scenes didn't feel like fill... they actually contributed to the plot in many ways.
8.) some terrific character development that was supported and abetted by meaningful dialogue between several important figures. (and even some minor ones).
9.) believability...
a.) no impossible escapes or saves at the last moment that were not realistic within the contest of this particular fantasy/adventure setting.
b.) in addition, important characters can be severely injured or killed...
