Great motivational book for those who are just staring out on collecting and using bitcoins
If there is anything I love about the author, it is his way of making a complicated topic very clear and understandable. I like the first two books which dealt with the technical aspects of the latest in thing which is bitcoin, followed by the last book which deals mostly on the origins and history of the technology. Knowing how Bitcoin ( the technology ) originated makes me appreciate it all the more and makes me want to learn more about it. A great bundle indeed, especially for those who are just starting out on accumulating bitcoins.

    Title: America's Assembly Line
    Author: David E Nye
    Narrator: Kevin Moriarty
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 9 hrs and 59 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 07-28-17
    Publisher: University Press Audiobooks
Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 2 votes
    Genres: Business, Commerce & Economy
    Publisher's Summary:
The mechanized assembly line was invented in 1913 and has been in continuous operation ever since. It is the most familiar form of mass production. Both praised as a boon to workers and condemned for exploiting them, it has been celebrated and satirized. (We can still picture Chaplin's little tramp trying to keep up with a factory conveyor belt.) In America's Assembly Line, David Nye examines the industrial innovation that made the United States productive and wealthy in the twentieth century.
The assembly line developed at the Ford Motor Company in 1913 for the mass production of Model Ts - first created and then serving an expanding mass market. It also transformed industrial labor. By 1980, Japan had reinvented the assembly line as a system of "lean manufacturing." American industry reluctantly adopted the new approach. Nye describes this evolution and the new global landscape of increasingly automated factories, with fewer industrial jobs in America and questionable working conditions in developing countries. A century after Ford's pioneering innovation, the assembly line continues to evolve toward more sustainable manufacturing.

A Story That Entralls and Disturbs
In this well-drafted study, David Nye provides the reader with the best historical analysis of American manufacturing since the publication of David Hounshell's FROM THE AMERICAN SYSTEM TO MASS PRODUCTION, 1800-1932 (1984). His use of the enormous documentary base that now exists on the rise of assembly-line production over the last century and his thorough examination of the origins and successive stages of that development are impressive and convincing. Nye has a unique gift to both inform and entertain as he covers the technical evolution of a process that came into existence in 1913 and has continued to adjust to new techniques. In addition to helping readers understand the technologies that shaped the assembly line, the author also provides insights into its cultural impact as seen in literature and the arts, particularly painting and photography. In ten chapters, Nye addresses the historical roots and context, Henry Ford's inaugural effort, spread of the process overseas, impact on workers, social and political criticism, Japanese reconfiguring of the assembly-line dynamic, and current efforts to confront the question of sustainability.
This last concern presents the greatest challenge to assembly-line technology. During the 100 years since the first Fords rolled off that original assembly line, the global impact of accelerated manufacturing, with its ever expanding need for natural resources and resulting pollution of the environment, remains a disturbing consequence that has not yet been really addressed. Nye acknowledges the problem when he writes: "The assembly line will have to be reconceived as far more than a physical arrangement of machines. It is the center of an entire cultural system that stretches far beyond the factory gates, including farms, iron and copper mines, rubber plantations, transportation networks, energy systems, steel mills, parts suppliers, the factory itself, banks, repair shops, recycling programs, and landfills." (p. 263) Here Nye functions as both historian and moralist as he concludes a book that recounts a development that has given the global human community so much material progress.

    Title: In Defence of Serendipity
    Author: Seb Olma
    Narrator: Kris Dyer
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 7 hrs and 36 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 02-28-17
    Publisher: Audible Studios
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 1 votes
    Genres: Business, Commerce & Economy
    Publisher's Summary:
In Defence of Serendipity is a lively and buccaneering work of investigative philosophy, treating the origins of 'serendipity, accident and sagacity' as both riddles and philosophical concepts that can be put to a future political use. Taking in Aristotle, LSD, Tony Blair and techno-mysticism, Olma challenges the prevailing faith in the benevolence of digital technology and the illegitimate equation of innovation and entrepreneurship, arguing instead that we must take responsibility for the care of society's digital infrastructure and prevent its degeneration into an apparatus of marketing and finance. For although there is nothing wrong with marketing and finance per se, if they alone lead technological development, free of any discretionary political interference, the freedom to be exploited will be as much a part of the future as our ability to intervene freely in our lives will be a thing of the past.

In Defence of Serendipity -- what a great statement
This book is like a fresh breeze from emerald mountains for the dust covered masses in huge metropolises. The pure power of it comes from the independent and sharp thinking of the author and those like-minded forerunners in whoâs work he also refers to. It is a book of serendipity, but more over it is a political statement, as the sub-title âA Radical Politics of Innovationâ indicates. In many respects the political statements Sebastian makes are valid and resonate also with my thinking, but certainly not with the TED-talk powered mainstream thinking of âinnoflationâ and start-up fanatics. So I am extremely curious of what kind feedback the book will generate in those circles.
The best part of the book is however not the political statement. Sebastian does a brilliant job in two areas. After having read his Merton&Barber bible thoroughly, he takes us professionally through the semantic history of serendipity as a notion. This kind of description is so far the best I have seen in any document or book related to serendipity. This background information surely is needed now, when even the taxi-drivers (or Uber drivers to be exact) are talking about serendipity. (Here I refer to the old wisdom from investment banking; when even taxi drivers talk daily of stock exchange, itâs time to sell all your sharesâ). With the âaccidential sagacityâ notion Sebastian is able to find the core of serendipityâs appearance. He is also able to add new and fresh dimensions to the notion of âserendipityâ by an insightful reference to âinvention-imitationâ thinking by Gabriel Tarde, and especially valid this is when he is talking about social entrepreneurs and social innovation.
The absolute gem in the book is Sebastianâs conclusions about the rise of Silicon Valley innovation culture. He takes us through the early stages of institutional serendipity (following the path already shown by Merton&Barber) by insightfully describing the emergence and success of two seemingly separate phenomena: the science of cybernetics and the countercultures like hippies in 70âs. Indeed, make love & war was the Silicon Valleyâs original sin. And this is something, that none of those Slicon Valley fanatics probably knew before.
I also love Sebastianâs vision in the last chapter where he illustrates universities as Übungsraum. (Übungswesen) i.e.

    Genres: Business, Commerce & Economy
    Publisher's Summary:
While the nation's newspapers, journals, business magazines, TV channels and the Internet continue to churn out reams, airtime and gigabytes of information about India's business houses - India Inc. - in this one-of-its kind book, Prof. R. Vaidyanathan delves deep into India Uninc. and presents a persuasive case for why the latter is really what is at the heart of our economy, and why any growth story about India is incomplete if that real engine of our growth is ignored. The author argues that the real India story, over generations, lies with the many proprietorship and partnership firms, small manufacturing units, kirana stores, single entrepreneurs and household enterprises. That they are being finally given their due, in this important study, is the result of many years of cutting-edge research, which lays bare the lopsided viewpoints of policy-makers and 'experts', and urges a broader vision of the country's economy. The small entrepreneur, says Prof. Vaidyanathan, should prevail over crony capitalism. Scholarly yet accessible, and offering a wealth of information on an uncharted territory, India Uninc. is a must-listen for anybody who aspires to understand the Indian economy - as well as India itself.
    Members Reviews:
    Insightful. Not to be missed.
A superb book!!! A very different analysis. The media obsession over share market / sensex movement is quite misplaced as the action is somewhere else. Prof. Vaidyanathan relates the story of small shopkeepers who are pestered by bribe seeking government officials. These shopkeepers are the real entrepreneurs, the real drivers of economy. My humble Pranam and gratitude to the Professor for this different and absorbing analysis.
    An Eyeopener!
This book is strongly recommended. Everyone needs to read for clearing the many misconceptions about small businesses in India, and for developing an understanding of their invaluable contribution in the Nation's growth and progress.
    Absorbing
For an otherwise dry subject of numbers and statistics the narration is very interesting, factual and revealing a must read for every english speaking citizen of India , will show what the true Economy of India is and how the authorities the true contributors and made wasteful expenditures
    Five Stars
Best work so far, a little too data comprehensive, but still a beautiful read, loved every paragraph.
    A real find!
A hard hitting book with deep insights. This is a must read for anyone who wants to really understand the Indian economy. Prof. Vaidyanathan has come out with an original work, that shows empathy for the long suffering Indian middle and underclass. His solutions to India's problems are also quite original and off beat.

Have you ever wondered why the rich get richer and the poor get poorer? There are many books that tell us to change our "mindset" and to "think and grow rich" but the truth is that mere wishing is not enough to make us wealthy. Positive thinking will, in fact, precede every positive idea, but without taking action, you can never be rich.
This book is about taking decisive action. This book is for those who are not content with their current financial situation and are willing to work to change their reality.
    Benefits of this book:
This book is not a get rich quick book, this book starts at the worst possible financial position you can be in (unemployment) and systematically takes you through both traditional timeless strategies and Internet-based strategies that will allow you to grow your income by $1000, $5000, $10,000, or even $200,000 per month. With a little work and armed with the information in this book, there is absolutely no reason why you will be in the same financial position in only a few months.

Venture deep into the heart of finance's weird and wonderful paradoxes.
Dinosaur Derivatives and Other Trades is an entertaining and compelling tour de force highlighting the paradoxes inherent to the modern financial system. Presented as a series of striking case studies, this book explores certain enigmatic or philosophical puzzles in the finance industry; some of these puzzles may seem slightly absurd at first glance, but all are very relevant to the way finance is conducted in the real world. Each story highlights specific hypocrisies or moral dilemmas that lie at the heart of the system, guiding listeners through the challenges of finance by way of innovative and memorable paradigms. Written in clear, accessible language, this book doesn't claim to offer original financial theory or philosophy as such, but instead deepens the listener's understanding of the system and stimulates independent consideration of the current state of affairs.
The financial world, so often viewed as a rather dull place, is secretly alive with possibilities of strange and sometimes wonderful conundrums. There is the possibility, for instance, of a Manhattan auction house selling derivatives to buy swift-swimming predators known as Megalodons (thought to be extinct for millions of years). This book explores this and other curious propositions to point out the paradoxes of finance.
To truly understand something, it is necessary to crawl deep into the metaphorical underbelly and have a look around. Dinosaur Derivatives and Other Trades provides the itinerary, and the insightful discussion that stimulates curiosity.

    Graceful, lighthearted walk across finance
Anyone deeply versed in finance (and not merely a laser-focused technical propeller-head) is probably aware of all the concepts here, if not all the musings of the author weaving around these concepts. Being self-educated in finance (to the extent I am educated in it at all), I don't know what elements of history and philosophy are included nowadays in a finance education. This book is relaxing for me and reflects thinking as I like to do it. Given my preferences, I would spend my time thinking about things like contracts concepts and convertible bonds. The book is non-technical, though clear in explaining financial instruments and ideas as far as it goes, and it sort of circles around and through topics, in an elliptical, wide ranging, history-laced style that resembles the way my head and my learning operate best. This is as close to lighthearted fun as a finance book gets.
