Though she is free of the palace, rescued from her position as a blood slave, Aria is haunted by the memories of her time spent within the fortress, tormented by memories of Braith, the prince that betrayed her and shattered her heart. Every day is a struggle to get through, and the only solace she is able to find is with Max, her best friend, and fellow captive.
Though Max does not understand her bond to Braith, he knows some of what she endured, and helps to ease some of the tattered pieces of her soul. Aria slowly begins to salvage the broken parts of her wounded spirit by throwing herself into the wonder of the woods she had so greatly missed, and the secure and reassuring love that Max freely gives her.
Her world is thrown into a tailspin again though when a marauding group of vampires destroy the caves she had found temporary shelter in. Scattered about the forest, seeking to stay hidden and find her family, Aria is stunned when Braith, the monster that savaged her heart, reappears. Stunned by his sudden arrival in her world, Arianna is uncertain if he has come to recapture her, or to kill her for daring to escape.

Not as good as the first..
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
No. Though I was interested enough, wanting to know what happens, I finished listening to the book and thought "That's it? That's the end?" It's not until you actually finish the whole book that you realize that not much actually happens. The first half of the book was very interesting and it kept me hooked. But toward the middle and through the end, the book fizzles out; it's mainly conversation to find out what is going on and lots of 'roll-your-eyes' romance and Braith's possessive 'nobody touch her' moments. Don't get me wrong, I am all for the romance, but the descriptions and dialogue are a little over the top in several scenes. Another aspect of the book I did not like was the writing. The author is so repetitive with her use of words that you start to notice them and cringe every time you hear them. The use of 'as if' or 'as it', or 'as he', or 'as she', or 'as they' was the worst. You hear it with every two to three sentences and I am not exaggerating here guys. It's pretty bad. Also, the author likes using descriptive adjectives for everything, and many of them seem unnecessary. In short, this book needs the fat trimmed.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The beginning, when Aria and Braith meet again. The least interesting would be the whole second half of the book.
    Any additional comments?
I think the story has a lot of potential but after reading the second book I am hesitant to listen to the third.
    Couldn't stop listening!
What did you love best about Renegade?
I loved the story between Braith and Aria. His need to have her, her loneliness without him, their reunion.
Who was your favorite character and why?
    I love Braith and Aria.
Which character as performed by Luci Christian was your favorite?
She does an amazing job with all the characters, I just can't choose!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    Yes, absolutely!
    Any additional comments?
Fantastic book! Loved it so so so much!
    amazing
totally enjoyed this series so much thst I listen again and again.

    Publisher's Summary:
    Blood Slave
Captured, taken from her beloved family and woods, Arias biggest fear is not the imminent death facing her, but that she will be chosen as a blood slave for a member of the ruling vampire race. No matter what becomes of her though, Aria knows that she must keep her identity hidden from the monsters imprisoning her. She has already been branded a member of the rebellion, but the vampires do not know the true depth of her involvement with it, and they must never know.
Though hoping for death, Arias world is turned upside down when a vampire named Braith steps forward to claim her. He delays her execution, but Aria knows its only a matter of time before he drains her, and destroys her. Especially once she learns his true identity as a prince within the royal family; the same royal family that started the war that ultimately brought down humankind, reducing them to nothing more than servants and slaves.
Aria is determined to hate the prince, determined not to give into him in anyway, but his strange kindness, and surprising gentleness astonish her. Torn between her loyalties to the rebellion, and her growing love for her greatest enemy, Aria struggles to decide between everything she has ever known, and a love she never dreamed of finding.

    Pleasantly surprised
Would you listen to Captured again? Why?
No but only because I typically don't listen to books more than once, even if I really like them.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Captured?
Hard to say without spoilers, but it's a scene close to the end of the book. Very intense and romantic.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes it sure was, it felt like watching a movie, super hooked and just wanting to know what happened next. It was hard to stop listening and get out of the car on several occasions.
    Any additional comments?
There are only a few things I did not like about this book. Sometimes the internal monologue was a bit too dramatic for my taste, which also slowed the story. Then the descriptions, I could point out words the author seems to use a lot throughout the book, like 'realize' or 'realization', 'glare', and 'clenched fists' were definitely very prominent. Overall though, I think the story is amazing, full of the type of conflict and tension that keeps you hooked, and I liked the characters, could connect to them, and was intrigued by them, so to me, that made it worth the listen. Can't wait for the next one!
    Everything I expected!
If you could sum up Captured in three words, what would they be?
    Enduring . Dangerous. Love.
What does Luci Christian bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Very good narration, she keeps my attention.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
    Love changes everything!
    Any additional comments?
I first came across this book at the kindle store for free. I was immediately drawn to the characters and unusual plot line. I bought the whole kindle series and I can't wait to buy the audiobook versions.
    just plan bad
whiny female lead who has no backbone. a male lead who... even though he's the lead, I'm not sure why he was even in the book.

    Publisher's Summary:
Ten years after Blayne Thorpe first encountered Bo Novikov, she still can't get the smooth-talking shifter out of her head. Now he's shadowing her in New York-all seven-plus feet of him - determined to protect her from stalkers who want to use her in shifter dogfights. Even if he has to drag her off to an isolated Maine town where the only neighbors are other bears almost as crazy as he is....
Let sleeping dogs lie. Bo knows it's good advice, but he can't leave Blayne be. Blame it on her sweet sexiness-or his hunch that there's more to this little wolfdog than meets the eye. Blayne has depths he hasn't yet begun to fathom - much as he'd like to. She may insist Bo's nothing but a pain in her delectable behind, but polar bears have patience in spades. Soon she'll realize how good they can be together. And when she does, animal instinct tells him it'll be worth the wait....

"Another Laurenston gem! [Listeners] can enjoy this tale even if it's their first in the series." (RT Book Reviews)

    BIG BIG SMILE!
I smiled all the way through this book. If you are in need of light, feel good entertainment this is the one. I truly enjoyed my time in Blayne's world. Bo and Blayne were just sweet, funny, and loveable. Blayne was like a sweet, hug-able, rabid chiwawa with the emphasis on rabid! I loved her personality. There wasn't a lot of violence, until the end. (LOL I am not including the hockey/derby action as violent) The bad guys got what was coming to them, although they weren't very developed. It was more a shifter romance than the action/shifter stories I have become used to. It was a nice change from the darker and grittier shifter stories. I liked visiting with the family :) I am looking forward to more entertaining adventures!
    I loved this book!
This was such a cute, funny, and sweet book! I didn't want to stop listening at all. The main characters are complete opposites. She is flaky, personable, and hyper (sometimes annoying), while he is OCD, rigid, and unfriendly. It is hilarious to hear her mess with him so much and turn his life upside down. I laughed throughout the book.
    Fun series.
I have really enjoyed the humor and fun of this series. I would recommend to anyone who wants a feel good book to snuggle up to. Great to listen to and worth the credit
Didn't think this author could get any better,
Would you consider the audio edition of Beast Behaving Badly to be better than the print version?
Haven't read the book only listened to the series in audio format
Who was your favorite character and why?
Loved Blayne she was so endearing I was rooting for her from the moment her character was introduced
    Which scene was your favorite?
When Blayne works the bear authorities into not putting the stray dogs down, she's a girl after my own heart.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I tried to listen to it all in one sitting but life kept getting in the way. Darn those little responsibilities like work, taking care of parents and sleep!
    Any additional comments?
I've loved this series, it is rare to find an author that can make me laugh out loud, much less keep it up book after book.

Great book!!!! Can not wait for the next one!!!! Love the way she reads and draws you in!
    An Awesome Read
The grey wolves series is one of the best reads out there. I love this series
Best book I have ever heard.
It was a wonderful book. I do suggest you read all the other books first. If you want action romance supernatural things this is the book for you.
    The drama continues
I still loved reading this book and as always the characters were quite entertaining throughout the book. The only part I didn't like was someone's death, which I thought unnecessary, but since the series continues I guess that I will find out the point of that scene.
    Inspiration hot.
Once again inspiring, courageous, loved, heart... Jennifer is a girl of my heart. Strong and powerful. I can't wait to hear Sally and Kosta love affair.

    Publisher's Summary:
You would think after helping save her boyfriend from an eternity in Hell that things would go back to normal. Well, as normal as life can be when you can see souls and your boyfriend is Death. But for Pagan Moore, things are just getting weirder.
The high school quarterback and reigning heartthrob, Leif Montgomery, is missing. While the town is in a frenzy of worry, Pagan is a nervous wreck for other reasons. Apparently good ol Leif isnt your average teenage boy. He isnt even human. According to Death, Leif doesnt have a soul. The quarterback may have skipped town but hes still showing up in Pagans dreams... uninvited.
Dank has known from the beginning Leif wasnt human. But he hadnt worried about a simple soulless creature. Now, he realizes he made a grave mistake. Pagans soul has been marked since birth as a restitution, to a spirit so dark not even Death walks near it. Dank knows saving Pagans soul wont be easy but Pagan is his. And hes already proven hell defy Heaven to keep her. If Hell wants a piece of him too, then bring it on.
    Editorial Reviews:
Sultry actress Ashley Litz sizzles with passion and suspense in this hotly anticipated sequel. Predestined reunites listeners with high school heroine Pagan - imbued with the unique ability to see souls - and her dark, dashing boyfriend Dank, aka Death. In the second installment of Existence, Pagans former fling, quarterback Leif Montgomery, mysteriously vanishes. Already experiencing disturbing visions from her childhood, Pagans angst is further aroused by Danks unsettling assertion that Leif has no soul. When her erstwhile ex returns, Pagan must make a heartbreaking decision. Throughout, Litz lusts and lilts with heart-melting heat. Her range and role-playing is as uncanny as the story itself, whether shes playing small-voiced seven-year-old Pagan, naïve and vulnerable, or booming with lordly masculinity as dark, devilish, and dreamy Dank.
    Members Reviews:
excellent story, annoying narration and awful sing
Would you consider the audio edition of Predestined to be better than the print version?
    No
What did you like best about this story?
Pagan and dank. But not dank's singing. Shudder.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
With the God awful voices of G and Miranda. This isn't Anime. No need to squeal and cackle and screech.
    Just Ok....
I love all of Abbi's other series, especially the Sea Breeze books. This story was ok - just hard to get into. I wanted to care, I really did, but the story line fell short somehow. I really had a hard time with the whole idea of her loving "death", and the voodoo world creeped me out. The narrator did a great job with the main character, but she ruined the other characters. She made Miranda and G completely irritating. I don't think I am going to finish the series....
    Not a fan of Pagan
The book kept me interested enough but I have to admit the heroine got on my nerves. Will continue the series since I do want to see how it ends.
    Easily keeps your attention
    Any additional comments?
This was a very good second book. It leads up to the confrontation between Dank and Ghede. Even though Pagan and Dank have been allowed to be together, they still have to contend with Ghede and the restitution he believes he is owed. Ghede knows that he can't take Pagan and targets those close to her.
Leif is still attempting to take back her affection but his attempts are stalled by Dank and Gee.

It was interesting enough to have kept listening
Took a bit to get into it, as there were many moments that got on my nerves. The narrator's cadence reminded me of that of William Shatner.

Jennifer Adams, best friend to Jacque Pierce and Sally Morgan, is spicy, outspoken, a little crazy, and human . . . or so she thought. Jen has just found out that human DNA is not the only thing that resides in her veins; she happens to share that little pesky werewolf gene, although it isn't more than just a drop. Now that she and her friends are living in Romania with Fane's pack, she is also oh so conveniently stuck with the object of her affection, the fur ball Decebel.
Drawn to Decebel by something she doesn't understand, Jen finds herself frustrated by the lack of mating signs between her and said fur ball. Not only is she dealing with that problem, she now has been informed that because of that little drop of werewolf blood in her she is now required to attended a multi-pack gathering for unmated wolves. This type of gathering hasn't taken place in over a century, but with a shortage of females among the werewolf population the males are getting worried they won't ever find their true mates. Meanwhile Decebel struggles with the emotions he is feeling towards Jen. He tries to keep his distance but there is just something about the mouthy blonde that keeps him coming back for more of her verbal abuse, which he just can't seem to get enough of . . . go figure.

Jen is my girl she's strong, smart, courageous, and funny as hell she's my kind of girl. I wish I was as smart and witty.
    Loved
I loved this book and I love the series. I just wished that you could listen at a lower cost!!!
    such a GREAT series
LOVED LOVED LOVED this book....this entire series is phenomenal!! This will be my 3rd time listening to the series. The narrator is just unbelievable and really brings the characters to life. I've read this series and LOVED it as well. I couldn't count how many times it made me actually laugh out loud where the people around you think you're crazy lol and it's so very emotional too. Definitely worth your credit and then some!!!
    Holy wolfsbane
Holy crap! Holy friggin crap! Im... sort of speechless. Me... its crazy, that never happens... Sweet Jesus. Talk about a crazy form of chaos. Quinn has out done herself this time.
Jennifer and her furball... good gravy! I cant get enough of either. Jenn is a mouthy, southern gal who takes nothing from anyone. Shes got a quick whit, a smart mouth and a helluva attitude, pair hat with the big bad would sniffing at her heels and the two are a special kind of crazy.
Both Jenn and Decebel feel the bond growing between them both, yet the visual and physical signs of their mating are not there. To say theyre frustrated doesnt even cover it. When the pack as a whole is invited to a gathering all hell breaks loose. Decebel and Jenn are thrust into the madness of mate fest as the girls call it. So many things happen and its like dominos... once they start to fall, no one is safe.
When danger strikes its the Romanian pack that suffers. The big question is.... can they be saved or is it too late?
    Favorite book in the series!
Although several reviews complain about the narrator...I think she has done a wonderful job portraying the many characters in the series! This is absolutely my favorite book in the Grey Wolves Series and is my third time listening and god knows how many times I have read it.

    A Good Listen.
** spoiler alert ** Usually, I am not one for "mermaid" tales. I don't like swimming in the ocean for some reason, so the thought of turning into something sea-bound frightens me. So I was reluctant to read this, but I was pleasantly surprised.
I just don't understand how, as is most of these paranormal books do, no one tells the protagonist about his/her other persona/gifts/abilities. Like they aren't going to figure it out? They live between 2 forms of water... What are the odds that she (Mara) won't end up in shock from the transformation? But of course, she ends up putting clues together, and yup... realizes for herself.
That being said, I still enjoyed this book for the most part. A lot of things fell into place for me early on so when the big reveals came at the end, I expected most of them. The world building was great and so was the writing. You could feel the tension between the humans and the "fin folk".
I read this book via audiobook and audible. The Amanda Ronconi did a great job with the male and female voices adding to the depth of the book. Listening to books is the second best way to read if it is narrated by a good voice. This one didn't disappoint.
The second book Submerging, is on audio now and I will probably be listening to that one as well. I have to see where all these great characters end up!
    Great Book.
I can't wait to listen to the next book in the series. I love this book.
    Something fresh
Definitely young adult literature. As an old adult with young adult children, at times I wanted to ground the main character. Amanda Ronconi was brilliant, as always. I bought the books because it was not murder, zombies, werewolves, vampires or broken women are the center of the story.
It's good enough I want the third book in the series to know what happens to the characters. I only wish for less of the self-centered teen think.
    OK Young Adult series
While not the best series I have listened to, the story line was unique and entertaining. The narrator was, as always, fantastic.

The hour when dreams turn into nightmares...
Hosted by the Contessa della Trieste, an opulent Carnevale ball in Venice takes a terrifying turn for American book critic Jordan Riley. As festivity turns into frenzy, Jordan is rescued by a powerful man disguised as a wolf. But was the mayhem she witnessed - the blood, the fangs, the screams - truly just entertainment, or something far more sinister?
    And pleasure beckons from beyond...
From a deconsecrated Venetian church to a secret society in New Orleans, Jordan is led on a nightmare journey to the razors edge of reality. Her mysterious savior is always a shadow behind her, both tormenting and tantalizing her, as Jordan discovers a world of predators and survivors, a new order of vampires - and an eternal hunger that threatens to consume her.

This is laugh to loud AWFUL!!
If this author could actually write, this could have been a good book. The premise had good bones, the background of Venice beautiful and intriguing, but, the story was very weak. The heroine was written as dumb as dirt and not too likable, bad combo. She did dumb shit that even a B movie screamer wouldn't try, over and over, never learning from the previous experience. DUH!! The only part I enjoyed was Ragnor's background story, like Lucien's story in the previous book. Otherwise, that one was pretty silly also. I am sending this book back for a refund, nuff if enough!
    I'll call this a no.
Story was all over the place, difficult to follow to many characters very little romance, won't be reading more of the series.
Sorry I wasted my time struggling thru to the end.
What disappointed you about Deep Midnight?
CHARACTERS WERE UNAPPEALING & INCONSISTENT. STORY STRUCTURE WAS CHOPPY AND THE FLASHBACKS DID NOT HELP THE STORY LINE ...ONLY FILLED MORE PAGES.
What do you think your next listen will be?
It will be a long while before I am willing to spend time on another story by this author.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Tanya Eby?
Yes...her voice was the only good feature.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Deep Midnight?
    The author.
    Any additional comments?
One can only hope it was a shadow writer that can be fired. I have read other books by this author and find this story a severe disappointment.

    Excellent Reading!
What about Emily C. Michaelss performance did you like?
There are A LOT of characters in this series and Ms. Michael's performance was great and easy to discern between characters!!
    Any additional comments?
Wonderful series from a great up and coming author! I highly recommend both the print and audio versions!
    Great start to a series
I really enjoyed this book a lot. I am sometimes scared to read YA books because I am afraid they will be as full of angst as Twilight was. I was pleasantly surprised. the author does a good job of laying out the events in the story and by the time the book ends, you have an idea was may be in store for the second book, although you don't know how it will play out. I think it's just enough buildup to not leave you hanging. the narrator did a great job with the story as well.
loved the way this story plays out,
love the way this story plays out, couldn't stop listening. Even when I needed to sleep I found myself struggling to turn it off.
A great story line, but its lacking something?
I was really captivated in the first part of the story, it is a paranormal genre and one I was unfamiliar with, the potential to be a great story is there. The characters are interesting enough. Each with complex and intriguing backgrounds and it seemed like its building up to be really fantastic. But it seem to stray or grow stagnate in its progression a little over half way through.
I am still curious to see where the story will go, so I suppose its a wait and see on this one.
Good writing/narration in this YA series beginning
I'm not the target audience for YA books..I'm a 71 year old grannie. However I've discovered some of the most creative paranormal fiction tends to be written for the YA audience. Smokeless Fire is such a novel.
With excellent narration and Samantha Young's always great writing I highly recommend this for any audience who enjoys paranormal mysteries.
I got hooked on other writing by Samantha Young and now count on her as an author who is reliably creative. I haven't been disappointed by any of her works.
I'm looking forward to the next novel in the series that centers on a young woman whose life isn't what she thought it would be.
