Publisher's Summary:
Thirty-five-year-old introvert Todd Bryan hasn't really done much with his life, and he's okay with that. Until, at a painfully bad film festival, he meets Amy Husk. She's attractive. She's funny. She's quirky. And...she has an inoperable brain aneurysm and not much time to live. She may not even make it to the long-awaited final episode of Exit Red, the greatest show ever.
She convinces him that they should do something crazy and frivolous. And suddenly Todd, a guy who doesn't do spontaneity, is on an insane road trip from Florida to Rhode Island with a woman he barely knows, just to visit a really cool hot dog place.
Many things will go wrong. But, hey, many things will go right, too. There's a hook-handed hitchhiker and some property destruction. Maybe some sex. A kumquat will probably be relevant at some point, although not during the sex (if there is any).
A laugh-out-loud comedy, a touching love story, and a cross-country adventure, Kumquat is a story about making the most out of the time you've got.

Jeff, that was a cruel joke. And I hate you for that.
Kumquat had got me through a rough week. Not rough as in I just lost my job, or found out I have some incurable disease. No, it wasn't like that. It was rough because I had just started my new job and was feeling overwhelmed and alone. On the second day of work, I was feeling so many feelings. I was okay in the morning, by lunchtime I wanted to cry, and then at 3pm I was okay, and by the time work ended at 8.30pm I had wanted to curl up into a ball and bawl. Pfft. What a sap.
But Kumquat had been like an anchor that had kept me grounded. It was relatable, and laugh-out-loud hilarious. Occasionally, I had to bite my lips to stop myself form guffawing in public. I don't think the morning commuters would be amused as I was.
Kumquat tells a story of how our beta-male lead take a leap out of his comfort zone. Going on a road trip with a total stranger just for a hot dog. A trip full of unbelievable yet hysterically funny tribulations that forces him to grow a pair of proverbial balls and a spine.
I'm on a 'road trip' right now; on an adventure. There are bound to be some ups and downs. And when I come to it, I'll take the leap. :)
Conclusion: Pick this up when you're feeling down. I guarantee it'll make you feel A LOT better. :)
Funny and Sad Story!
Definitely adult-rated material. Quirky read, definitely from a man's point of view. Good book. I can totally see this as a top-notch "guy" film, because of the unique twists to the story, that you might see a room full of bachelors bonding and laughing about. I enjoyed the story, and the viewpoint, and completely agree with the philosophy of making the most of the time you are given in this life, that life is what you make of it, so make it glorious, and full of adventure. This story is too close for comfort, so forgive me for getting all sentimental... I wish that time wouldn't pass so quickly during the happy times in our lives...savor it while it lasts. Appreciate whatever pleasures in life that you enjoy most, whether it's hanging out with friends and family, reading, painting, writing or whatever, and don't waste your time on regrets (unless it's something that you can fix). There's NEVER enough time. I don't think that there ever will be.
