    Résumé de l'éditeur:
Cet audio est constitué de :
    L'auteur
Chapeau bas, Monsieur Devos.

Title: Go the F--k to Sleep
    Author: Adam Mansbach
    Narrator: Samuel L. Jackson
    Format: Unabridged
    Length: 6 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 06-16-11
    Publisher: Canongate Books Ltd
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 127 votes
    Genres: Fiction, Humor
    Publisher's Summary:
Academy Award nominee Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction) rocks this mock bedtime story, capturing a hilarious range of emotions as the voice of a father struggling to get his child to sleep.
Go the F--k to Sleep is a bedtime book for parents who live in the real world, where a few snoozing kitties and cutesy rhymes dont always send a toddler sailing blissfully off to dreamland. California Book Award-winning author Adam Mansbachs profane, affectionate, and radically honest verses perfectly capture the familiar - and unspoken - tribulations of putting your little angel down for the night. In the process, he opens up a conversation about parenting, granting us permission to admit our frustrations, and laugh at their absurdity. Beautiful, subversive, and pants-wettingly funny, Go the F--k to Sleep is a book for parents new, old, and expectant. Due to its explicit language, you probably should not play it for your children.
"I was anxious to do the audio read of this book because my agent has twins and he gave me the book and I read it and I fell out laughing. And I remember all those times when I did read to my daughter when she was that age and everybody tells you that reading stories will put kids to sleep, but it never works. It didnt in my house. Actually if I picked her up and made up a story it worked a lot better. But I did say Go the F--k to Sleep to her a lot, and I think at some point she would look at me when I would come into her room, and she would look at me and say Go the F--k to Sleep, Daddy!. And I would say Yeah, go the f--k to sleep'." - Samuel L Jackson
    Critic Reviews:
"Total genius." (Jonathan Lethem, author of Motherless Brooklyn, father of two)
"I wish this book had been around during my daughter's overly protracted sleep rituals! Finally, someone tells it like it really is. This is no-guilt funny and a godsend!" (Cristina Garcia, author of The Lady Matador's Hotel, mother of one)
"A children's book for grown-ups! I really did laugh out loud - hilarious!" (David Byrne, musician, father of one)
    Members Reviews:
    Brilliant - can't beat Samuel's narration
I had heard pieces of this and had heard people rave.
It's great - and despite the language my 88 year old mother (who never swears) thought it was very funny too.
SLJ - just has a brilliant voice and carries this off better than every other version I've heard.
    do you the F word
i am glad the story wasn't a long one,it did make me laugh in a few places
    Don't pass this Up
What did you love best about Go the F--k to Sleep?
Samuel L Jackson. His delivery was superb. He made it, I've seen this book in stores and perused it but would never consider buying it.
Has Go the F--k to Sleep turned you off from other books in this genre?
    Not at all.
    Which scene was your favorite?
No you can't go to the bathroom......You can go......Samuel say's it just how I want to say it to my kids.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, It's a short listen but oh so funny.
    Any additional comments?
More of Mr Jackson please Audible.
This is certainly not a book for kids
Would you consider the audio edition of Go the F--k to Sleep to be better than the print version?
hmmmm. i love Samuel L. Jackson, so am a bit biased.

    Publisher's Summary:
Enjoy a second helping from the obstreperous creature that romped so riotously through The Pig Did It with this sequel, The Pig Came to Dinner.
All of the charming characters of the previous story are also present again: Kitty McCloud and her new husband/former blood enemy Kieran Sweeney have bought an ancient Irish castle with the profits from Kittys popular revisions of classic novels like Jane Eyre. Kittys American cousin, Aaron McCloud, has arrived to visit with his new wife, the former swineherd Lolly McKeever. With them is a troublesome and unwelcome pig, a wedding gift they are redelivering to Kitty and Kieran.
But over the resulting lighthearted discord hangs a weightier problem: Kittys new home is inhabited by a pair of ghosts from out of the castles troubled past. How this haunting couple is dealt with serves only to embellish the allure and humor of Joseph Caldwells uniquely theatrical storytelling.
    Critic Reviews:
This charming, at times hilarious tale serves as a satisfying story as well as a quiet commentary on the sympathetic relationship between imagination and compassion. (School Library Journal)
Humor and sadness, the past and the present, all live side-by-side. (Publishers Weekly)
Irish to the core, [Caldwells trilogy] speaks to all of humanity... with a heart as wide as an Irish smile and a drollness that would be welcome in many a pub. (Richmond Times-Dispatch)

    Members Reviews:
Laugh your way into understanding human history
This clever play takes on the serious subject of past pain and unforgiveness. Through his use of humor, Alexander McCall Smith addresses how "reasonable and educated" people can become sucked into prejudice and unforgiveness. It is respectful of people's hurts while still challenging them to move forward.
    A nice little "breather".
The accents were delightful and the atmosphere was enjoyable as a nice palate cleanser between fuller and longer dramatizations of the author's work.

  • Mere Anarchy Audiobook by Woody Allen

    Title: Mere Anarchy
    Author: Woody Allen
    Narrator: Woody Allen
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 3 hrs and 22 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 07-20-10
    Publisher: Audible Studios
Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 456 votes
    Genres: Fiction, Humor
    Publisher's Summary:
For the first time ever, hear Woody Allens Mere Anarchy in the authors own distinctive and hilarious voice. Here, in his first short-story collection since his three classics Getting Even, Without Feathers, and Side Effects, Allen has managed to write a book that answers the most profound questions of human existence.
In 18 flights of inspirational sanity, we are introduced to a cast of characters only Allen could imagine: Jasper Nutmeat, Flanders Mealworm, and the independent film mogul E. Coli Biggs, just to name a few.
Whether he is writing about art, sex, food, or crime, Allen is explosively funny. In "This Nib for Hire", a Hollywood bigwig comes across an author's book in a little country store and describes it in a way that aptly captures this magnificent volume: "Actually," the producer says, "I'd never seen a book remaindered in the kindling section before."
Woody Allens short story collections Mere Anarchy, Getting Even, Without Feathers, and Side Effects are available separately or together as part of The Woody Allen Collection.
    Critic Reviews:
"Throughout my life, literally thousands of people have made me feel inadequate, but none more so than Woody Allen."(Larry David, Producer, Writer, Actor)
"Woody Allen brought modern comedy to the cinema screen." (Ricky Gervais)
"Nostalgically enjoyable....The stories in Mere Anarchy deliver the same joys and foibles that have been with its author from the start." (The New York Times)
"Brilliant neurotica...unfailingly entertaining...[an] obsessive and seriously funny book." (Los Angeles Times Book Review)
    Members Reviews:
    What can I say?
One thing about Woody Allen--you can count on him to either hit it out of the park or strike out. In "Getting Even" he hit it out of the park and in this collection hewell, you can figure it out.
Listening to these 2 audiobooks in sequence, I am reminded of how thin the line is between brilliantly intelligent satire and overblown, pretentious nonsense. While this book has its moments, it definitely leans towards exemplifying the latter. It is a collection of essays in which Allen uses news snippets or minor personal experiences as inspiration for fictionalized comic sketches. In finding the ridiculous in these things, he ends up going too far and ends up being tiresomely ridiculous himself.
Nevertheless, I certainly will never give up on Woody, because, who knows, next time it could well be a home run!
    Don't buy it
    Any additional comments?
Wish I could get my money back. Terrible. The only humor is his attempt to use the most convoluted language to express the most simple of thoughts.
Best of Woody Allen's Four Humor Books
Each of Woody Allen's four humorous books is a compilation of New Yorker articles. Woody reads all four for Audible and gives a great performance in each. This one seems to be the funniest to me though certainly each chapter can be hit or miss depending on individual tastes.
    Big Woody Allen Fan!
    Any additional comments?
5 Stars all the way! You can't beat this, Woody Allen reading his own words is just downright hilarious. Great pick up!
2 stars. Ok but not as funny as I expected.
I had a few chuckles but no laugh-out-louds. Sometimes my mind wandered. I like his weird mind. Woody Allen has a strange relationship with food. Several times he mentioned something odd with food. Many of the vignettes did not have endings.

    Wodehouse at his best.
Hilarious vintage Wodehouse, superbly rendered by James Saxon. The stories had me chortling, and Saxon's readings just hit the spot. Superb stuff.
    disappointing
I misrakenly thought all the stories would be based at Blandings with the usual cast of wonderful characters. However many of the tales related to adventures in the US with less interesting individuals. I would not have chosen this one had I realised. Good narrator.
    More than just Blandings
The book starts with Blandings, Lord Emsworth, the Empress and a scary battalion of powerful women. Classic Wodehouse set amongst the aristocracy. The wit is sharper then Lady Constance's voice. The second part of the book contains Mr Mulliner stories, which are less well known and set in Hollywood, where Wodehouse worked writing scripts. They are not what you would expect if your only experience of Wodehouse are the TV series. Thoroughly recommend, a book to listen to again and again.

    With a contented sigh
Jeremy Sinden has captured P.J. Wodehouse so very well in Heavy Weather.
The plots and subplots are delightfully entwined and keep Galahad on his toes.
While would be high profile personages are plotting to steal Galahad's ms, others see a fortune in publishing same. Meanwhile the Earl is determined to prevent his neighbour stealing his award winning pig. And then some.
A most enjoyable listen. I would like to hear Sinden read more of Wodehouse.
    Absolute pleasure
Jeremy Sinden, the narrator, is an absolute pleasure to listen to. I have liked his rendition of Heavy Weather so much that I went on to get his other readings of PG Wodehouse's novels. Would highly recommend!
    Wonderful
Best of Wodehouse. Hilarious, clever and narration is so so good.
Been listening to this to get off to sleep, instead Ive kept the whole house awake by laughing out loud. Cant recommend it highly enough.
    Good Wodehouse entertainment
One of my favourites... All the usual characters and plot. listened for second time. brilliant.
    A sunshine filled joy!
The sun always shines at Blandings Castle, true there are storms and 'Heavy Weather' but eventually the sun will come out again and shine upon the inmates of the castle. If you are already a fan of Wodehouse, then you will love it . If you are new to the delights of Blandings, I would suggest starting at the beginning with 'Something Fresh'. Although to be fair it doesn't really matter too much. A complete joy from beginning to end.
