Today I decided to indulge in a guilty pleasure of mine and read a Mail Order Bride novel. Why do I call it a guilty pleasure? Because just about every mail order bride book that I have read follows a pretty standard formula. 1) Something happens causing a young woman to need to relocate. Generally she doesnât have a lot of money or options, so she winds up answering an advertisement in a newspaper from a man across the country who is looking for a wife. 2) She takes a long train ride to wherever her future husband lives and marries him the day she meets him. 3) There are usually a number of hardships or difficulties that they must endure and overcome together. And 4) Once they overcome these difficulties together, love wins out and their happy ending is ensured. There are a few variations of this from different authors, but in general thatâs the standard formula. The book I chose for today was no different.

âGenevieve: Bride of Nevadaâ definitely counts as your standard Mail Order Bride novel. Itâs one of a series of books that were written by a number of authors. In this series, there is a book for every state in the USA. This one focuses on Genny, a young woman who has just lost her job as a factory employee when the factory burns down. She answers an ad for a Mail Order Bride from a rancher in Nevada who was recently widowed and needs a wife to help him raise his two small children. The problem she encounters after she meets him is that he doesnât intend for it to be a ârealâ marriage. His wife had died in childbirth and he is unwilling to let himself love another woman and risk losing her that way as well. And no ârealâ marriage means that there will never be any more children and no risk of losing someone else.

As she really has no other options at that point, Genny agrees and marries Stuart. She falls instantly in love with his children, and they are almost as quickly in love with her. Then she discovers that her new husband intends to share a bed with her, though there will be no physical intimacy between them. (Remember, heâs not willing to risk his heart or to father more children.) Unfortunately for Genny, she truly wishes to have children of her own in addition to the two of Stuartâs that she is helping to raise. As expected, she falls in love with a husband who keeps pushing her away.

Another very entertaining book. Great narration!

This was a great fun story. I enjoyed Thea quite a bit she was smart, witty, feisty, and beautiful. Dalton was awesome and quite a surprise. They made a great couple. The chemistry was great between them. Real and genuine. There was a couple very nicely written sex scenes, not erotica not rated G, but steamy.

The story line and plot was great. There were a few surprises that I really enjoyed. I don't want to give away any spoilers so I wont. Just know it was a very good story. Well written, easy to follow and had a lot of fantastic dialogue and characters.

As for the narration, Beverly Crick did another great job. The men sounded like men, everyone had their own distinct voice and she reads with a lot of emotion which makes the book come to life.

I do hope to see more Lenora Bell books on audible, I like her writing style, characters and stories.

Excellent Story, Writer and Narrator. Loved it All!

I do not usually review even the most enjoyable books and popular authors. BUT, this Historical Romance, of which I read many, just had a superior quality and level of story telling content that surpasses many I have read. Everything was done perfectly and enhanced by the excellent narrator Beverley Crick. I had never heard her before the two books in this series, but will look for her now! Her reading and interpretation of every voice was spot on and more important in a romance, her narration of the love making moments were absolutely riveting and sensual, passionate and touching and most important to me not gratuitous, not xxx rated, but tactfully described. So you did not feel like you were listening to porn.

My ONLY wish is that Lenora Bell has MORE novels coming soon!!

Two is not enough for this great romance writer.

Better than the first - Good story & FUN

I knew I would enjoy Dalton's story. This was fun from the start. I enjoyed it more than the first book in the series.

Absolutely Amazing! Superb Narration!

I loved this book! It was so good from beginning to end!

Wow was this story good. I really loved these two characters together. Rohen and Kate had some great chemistry and banter. Some of the best written sex scenes I have read. Just excellent writing and story telling going on here.

The story line and plot was great. I loved the conspiracy, kidnapping, sword fight, mystery and all the action. You don't get a lot of that in historical romance books but this one had it all.

I highly recommend this book 100%

As for the narration, well Marian Hussey is one of my very favorite narrators so not only was the story good the narrator made it even better. She does such a great job on the men's voices. Every person gets their own distinct voice and her reading voice is amazing. She reads with emotion and is just a super narrator!

First time to read this author....

and the author is very talented. Brought the characters to life. I am currently on my second one right now. Highly recommended!

Kate had such a darling character

I really enjoyed reading this book although it took me almost a week and a half to do so. The characters seem real and the interactions believable. I have purchased another book I have been wanting to read but I would love to get back to this series after I finish that book and find-out what happens next.

My Dangerous Duke is exceptional story in the Inferno Club series. This story is Rohan about the Duke of Warrington. He is also know as the Beast and he is an Assassin for the Order Of St. Michaels. In this story Warrington has returned to his ancestral home Kilburn Castle. Some of his tenants have run afoul in his absence. To stay Warrington's punishment too themselves they kidnap a virgin sacrifice Miss Katherine Fox/Kate Madsen.

Once Warrington finds out that Kate is not a doxy but a gently born lady and has been use by the Promethean Council to lure her believed deceased father Capt. Fox in to save her.

Gritty Regency romance

I wish I had know this was a 3rd book before I started it. I would have read the others first. There is a lot of the other two stories in this. Even switching to the other two sisters points of view a couple times. So it would be better to read this series in order. This was like no other regency book I have read. The cover is so sweet and innocence but the book has a gritty edge that is going to turn some proper regency fans off. This was a different side of regency England behind the actors on stage and in less privileged people. I love how the leading lady took her life in her own hands and fought for a better life. It is sad she had to delve into a world of prostitution, barley keeping her head above water. I enjoyed this and I didn't think I would. It had some fun elements and a good story line that is really different. There is sexual innuendo throughout, this is not your normal proper romance, they talk about sex a lot. There is no sex scenes. This is more a world like the Phantom of the Opera movie.

Not the best in the series

I'm going to disagree with my fellow reviewers and say that I liked this book the least in the series. There are a number of reasons and chiefly I think it's because I read all three books in a row. I enjoyed the first two so much and again, unlike other reviewers I liked Jasper, the H in this story, from the beginning of the series. I felt like I understood him well and as a result I didn't enjoy his book as much.

Again I didn't love the h because she was stubborn and resistant to the H for no good reason. I couldn't understand her insistence on returning to the theatre after her brother explained his reasons for wanting to take care of her for a change. He said that it was his turn and that at no time had the h ever asked him for input before making her decisions. That just made so much sense to me. The other thing that grated is that the h knew that her returning to the theatre could undermine her brother's position as a doctor if she went back to the stage. She also knew that her time on the stage would be limited to a few more years at best but she's willing to throw away respectability for that and for revenge on the uncle. Finally the ending didn't make a lot of sense to me realistically because I really don't believe that the H could ever have married an actress. He is his father's heir and the father is a viscount. The author did her best to make it feasible but I wasn't buying it.

Having said the above, I love the way the author writes and her storytelling is wonderful. She doesn't rely on sex to sell her books and I find that admirable in Regency romance. Perhaps the key is not reading this series in quick succession.

A fine third novel in the Fairchild series

I really like the character development across these three novels (to date) and the ever deepening insights into each person.

Another Wonderful Cathy Maxwell Book

I haven't read/listened to a Cathy Maxwell book for some time now. I always loved her novels. Well, this book is another hit. As usual, the author brings all emotions into her story. Gavin and Sarah are both strong characters. They know what is expected of them; however, love prevails - as it should. This story is quite entertaining in itself and I was surprised by the ending. I loved it. Ms. Maxwell, please continue to give us wonderful stories.

Cathy always writes wonderful characters and stories that excites and warms my heart. These characters and this story will take its place as one of my favorites. Can love be satisfied with such a deep divide between the lovers? That was my question? Loved spending time with these characters!

Cathy Maxwell is brilliant

I enjoyed this easy listen. Cathy Maxwell's wit and charm are showcased in this second in this series. I find our female lead believable in her quest to have her love mean something solid and I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys a good actress getting her leading man!

Simply Perfect

I enjoyed this book. The writing is superb and no detail left out. The hero Gaven is multifaceted and swoon worthy. I found myself a little jealous of the heroine. Sarah is a strong woman with layers to her as well. I enjoyed this book so much. It is my favorite in the series. I hope everyone loves this twisting story as much as I did.

Good clean story

A nice easy listen. I appreciated the clean content and the clean language. I have had to return so many books lately because of foul language. Other than the odd pronunciation of Clara which the narrator pronounced "Claw-ra", he did an excellent job and aided in the enjoyment of the story without bringing attention to himself as the narrator.

MY TAKE

I read this book before, as a book. I was thrilled to find the audiobook available and listened to it. The narrator, Jason Tatom, did a fabulous job. I hope he does other audiobooks in this series.

I love the Jonquil brothers. They are such a fun and interesting family, each so unique and vulnerable in their own ways. I'm really hoping the publisher will get the rest of the books out on audiobook on Audible soon.

Corbin. Such a great guy. Love him to death. And how he handles Clara's little charges (daughter and nephew) is precious. I love it so much when a big, strong guy can be so tender and gentle. And tender and gentle is just what Clara needs as well after all the horror she's gone through.

Eden always does a fabulous job making her character fragile and broken in their own ways. She engages my heart and makes me ache for them.

Esceptional historical book.

This book is one of my favorite books. Dorothy Wiley is an excellent story teller and I enjoyed every minute of it. Can't wait for the next one to come out as an audio book.

Alan Phillip Ormond does an excellent job of reading it with all the right emphasis in the right places.

Wow! Just Wow!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Hero in the Highlands?

They hit the ground running in their first meeting with the cow stuck in the mud.. Too funny!

What does Flora MacDonald bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

Flora is smart but straight forward and brings a fresh outlook to our jaded H

Narrator did stellar job of using the Scottish dialect. Will look for authors books again.

But those narrated by Flora MacDonald are fantastic!! I loved Gabriel's voice and it was very distinct. Excellent job!

Quick Thoughts: This book was really hard for me to rate! There were parts I really loved and other parts I had a hard time wrapping my head around. Actually there was one moment and it was the first time it got smexy. I didn't care a wit about how sexually free she was but I did notice that he just kind of assumed it. That bothered me a gosh darn bit. I loved them otherwise and they both showed tremendous growth during the story. Their romance was perfect (for them) and in the end I was left wanting more (I already have book 2 which I am told I will adore like mad). So yes I recommend this!

This is (as far as I know unless this is an alias) the first Flora MacDonald narration I have listened too. I was impressed. In fact, she might have been a wee bit too good on the narration because there were a couple of times I had to rewind to catch her Scottish Brogue.

This Book Would Have Been A Hot Mess...

...in the hands of a less skilled author. Instead, it was enchanting! And the narrator, Nicola Barber, made the experience extremely enjoyable. Terrific author, fantastical premise and utterly delightful performance---who could ask for more?!?

Ehhh?

This is just a crazy mish-mash of incidents that don't seem to be satisfactorily tied up at the end. I didn't especially like Emmaline, and the reader's interpretation of her voice as wimpy and breathless, almost whispery was just annoying. Lords Silverton and Olympia were annoying and not charming or loveable - and Emmaline should have knocked Silverton flat when he showed his true colors. And ghosts? Where did the ghosts come from? (Although Queen Victoria was my favorite character in the book - a dead woman was more lively and believable than the living characters!) And, what were the Americans doing? I've listened twice, and I've read it once, and I just don't get it. I didn't feel like there was any resolution - the author just decided to stop writing.
