    Publisher's Summary:
Rudolph! is a first-person account of the behind-the-scenes workings at the North Pole. Narrated by Bernard Rosewood, one of the elves of the North Pole Consortium, the story begins with Santa's realization that a young girl's request to get her dad back for Christmas isn't going to happen. Dad, you see, died in a car accident on a snowy road shortly after Thanksgiving. The NPC can do a lot, but they can't do miracles. Enter Rudolph, who has been hairless, cranky, and perpetually irradiated since the unfortunate malfunction of the Nuclear Clock in 1964. Rudolph is a survivor of the worst accident in the 400-plus years of NPC delivery, and if there is anyone on staff who believes in miracles more than jolly Saint Nick, it's Rudolph. Bernie, in a valiant effort to keep Christmas from going off the rails, is swept up into a Heaven-storming, Hell-crusading, Night of Bad Musical Numbers adventure to ensure that every child wakes up with presents on Christmas morning. Rudolph! is a funny and fast-paced reaction to 50 years of world-weary cynicism, technological advances, and post-millennial ennui since Rankin/Bass brought a stop motion reindeer into our living rooms.

    BADASS SANTA WINS CHRISTMAS
This book is totally badass and unexpected. I don't usually love books with awesome looking covers, but in this case it's ok to judge the book this way. ;)
    Five Stars

    Five Stars
    a highly fun'tastic read.. :-)
A hilarious holiday tale for adults!!!!
If you are looking for a Holiday story and are wanting something a bit edgy and different, Rudolph! is the book for you. The story begins at the North Pole the night before the night before Christmas, where Santa is frantically searching the internet working to fulfill a last minute Christmas wish. Rudolph, Santa, Bernie the Elf and the rest of the reindeer team promptly set out on several no-holds-barred trips with the Mark V Sled, and of course the reindeer fly. They have a variety of high tech firepower and explosives that Rudolph and Company generously use in their encounters with Heavenly and Demonic Beings and even a few Bad Guys. The quirky characters will have you frequently chuckling with their witty banter. You should be warned that the story does have a couple of times where you may find yourself reaching for a tissue for "that" irritation in your eye. Rudolph! is a story of making miracles happen and the implications for fulfilling them. It is a story not to be missed this Holiday Season.

it is well worth the listen.
Do not miss reading this book
What did you like most about The Witch with No Name?
The story line was well presented and kept my interest, in truth, I was sorry when it came to an end.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Witch with No Name?
That is always such a difficult question, because there were so many, and in simple truth, I feel it would be unfair to spoil it for others, read it and discover the magic in this authors wondrous skill.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Publisher: Mark Henry
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 4 votes
Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Fantasy: Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
Zombie socialite Amanda Feral and her undead friends, Wendy and Gil, shamble into an idyllic seaside village for an event promoting Amanda's memoir, Happy Hour of the Damned and, as usual, to consume cute coastal townsfolk. As is their unique luck, plans are derailed when they become embroiled in a gory mystery at the Miss Sand Flea Pageant. Beset with perky, sinister go-go dancers, the inevitably hot wereshark, and the most annoying octogenarian writer ever, Amanda must, once again, take time out of her busy schedule of perpetuating horror, critique, and ridicule to solve the crime and save a local bookseller from ruin.
After a few years away from the Urban Fantasy genre, the dark and dementedly funny Mark Henry is back with the first installment in a new trilogy of hilariously gruesome novellas featuring everyone's favorite undead socialite, Amanda Feral.
    Members Reviews:
Amanda Feral is back and I'm as giddy as a twisted school girl!
5 stars for a story that makes you wonder what kind of person you are for enjoying the twisted and warped mind of Mark Henry.
I about wet my pants when I found out Mark Henry was writing 3 novellas to continue the misadventures of the gruesome threesome from his Amanda Feral series.
Amanda, Wendy and Gil are on another road trip and they think their first stop will be quiet and peaceful but they should have known better. There is no such thing as peaceful when these three are involved. Golden go-go dancers, pageant queens, crazy annoying writer and Weresharks oh my. Mark has a way of finding anything and everything that is depraved, strange and oh so wrong.
Beach Blanket Bloodbath gets The Crazy Booksellers stamp of approval for a novella that is a must read.
    Mark Henry does it again!
Mark Henry has done it again. Amanda has returned and there is no holding her back. Apparently, you canât keep a good (if you can call her that) zombie down or quiet. Back on the road with Wendy and Gil, along with the addition of Abuelita, the now foursome continue to shock and awe at every turn.
Markâs talent for melding snarky humor, gore, and sex makes for a delightfully decadent read. Whether you are just being introduced to Amanda or have followed her antics since Happy Hour of the Damned, you canât be disappointed with Beach Blanket Bloodbath, except maybe that there is not enough of it. Not to worry though, Amanda and the gang arenât finished yet. This is the first in a new trilogy of Amanda Feral novellas and I canât wait to see what or who they manage to get into next.
A good time for all... except for those who got eaten
Amanda is back, this time as the consummate starving artist. Minus the starving. Actually, she seems to stay pretty well fed. I guess that's one of the benefits of picking up your food behind the Safeway bottle return shed rather than inside the store itself. What I'm saying is; the girl eats even though she's beyond broke.
Meanwhile Gil and Wendy are exploring new career opportunities, and I'm not sure Amanda is particularly happy about it, which means there's an extra layer of bitchiness on top of the already bitch-heavy layer cake that is Amanda Feral. God I love that bitch.
There's so much packed into this little novella that I don't even know where to begin.

Looking forward to number 2. The writing is exquisite, and well formed plots keep the reader captivated. Recommended to all.
    Stuggles to find its way
Antoine Rouaud faces a real challenge in "The Path of Anger" which is: how do you write a likeable book about basically unlikeable characters? Unfortunately, I am not sure he is up to the challenge that he sets himself.
The novel concerns a general and a boy, who become a drunk and a man over the course of the book. An empire falls, treachery abounds, love makes its presence felt in several forms, all as the action and plot moves back and forth across many years. It is this frequent movement across time and place that is one of the more obvious shortcomings of the novel however: the transitions can be jarring, even though they are handled in a surprising way: the shift is gradual, combining action and dialogue from each over several paragraphs until the move is complete. But this can be a bit confusing, and seems to serve no real purpose other than to handle the technique in a different way than is the norm.
The other interesting narrative technique here is that the first half of the novel is devoted to the general, and the second half to the boy, and they each have very different and distinct perspectives on the same events. While this is interesting, I am not sure it is compelling, and doesnt seem to succeed except to reinforce the very unprofound idea that different people will see things differently.
And that leads us to the primary flaw with the novel: neither of these very different characters is really very likeable. The general wallows in self pity and remorse for most of the novel, and the boy in anger and hate. Neither has much in the way of redeeming characteristics until the last quarter of the book. As a result, we really find it quite difficult to care what happens to them.
With the rest of the plot being a bit contrived and a bit thin, there is just not that much here to really enjoy.
    Great fantasy debut
'The Path Of Anger' is a typical fantasy novel. It begins in an in, and as with many good stories, it's a dark and stormy night... Viola walks in with her mysterious protector and finds an old man she's been told is called Dune. When she discovers he's actually Dun-Cadal, the war hero she's heard a lot about, she persuades him to begin talking.
The story jumps from the present, with Viola trying to get Dun-Cadal's help to find the sword of the Emperor, and the past, where he narrates some of his battles, and the events that lead to the fall of the empire.

Trying to make sense of humanity's quirky and often devastating behaviors, birds formed a religion complete with mythology, lore, and fissured beliefs. "This is dangerous territory you place your wings in, my starling friend." The goldfinch lowered his voice. "I feel something strange in the air ever since you came here. You aren't usual, and there is an energy growing in the air we breathe - like a berry on the vine. It's ripening, and when it's ready, there will be either a wonderful feast or poison."
The tenuous worldview of birds, and perhaps humans too, is about to be challenged by the coming of a Starling of Prophecy and the truth He is called to discover and ultimately share.

    Great book with lovable characters
As an bird lover, I can easily get into this book and imagine how my aviary of birds might act in like. Well written and with a deep message that is conveyed well through the eyes of birds. Worth the read and is good for all ages.
    Remembrance and Murmuration
When Mentor Diver commends SLâan and the entire murmuration of young, eager starlings, the sage teacherâs words as if âreviveâ the acolyte bird. âInstead of making music with our voices,â Mentor Diver workshops his fledgling charges, âwe make music by the power of our union.â It is a âmusicâ we witness of the starling flockâs flight. It is a âpowerâ created when the birds fly as with the âsame wing beats,â so the âair-soundâ they each play together and as one realizes a âunionâ as if of the very godsâ were harmonizing.
SLâanâs voice emerges during this âclassâ as a âstrange ringing out,â the young birdâs knowing without knowing that, with Mentor Diverâs tutelage, he is âseeing music instead of hearing it.â SLâan does not realize he must soon fly out into the world, alone, and actually live the sage philosophy Mentor Diver has illuminated. SLâan is the One, âchosenâ by starling lore, in fable, through tales passed down orally, as religion. He is growing into what he has learned, and must now experience that learning, both in the community of birds and alongside the society of people, embodying that knowledge he has always known, yet still needs remember.
The idea of knowledge and remembering breathes light throughout Tanya Sousaâs first novel, The Starling God. Sousaâs vision illuminates a collective memory that has been forgotten, imparted, teacher to learners through the workâs first few chapters, as in the style of Ishmael, through lectures delivered by Mentor Diver, and as in a classroom, except outdoors in the starlingsâ native setting, like in Jonathan Livingstone Seagull. But unlike in those anthropomorphic classics, Sousa asks that the reader see along with SLâan, who must not only recall his forgotten, embodied memory, but he must actually experience the learning he does not yet know he knows. SLâan must both fulfill his individual destiny as well as help the entire community redeem the music inside of each individual starling.
This music, Sousa shows, is of memory forgotten by all the birds.

    Members Reviews:
Beauty and the Beast and the Beast and the Beauty, sort of...
It's probably rude to start off by mentioning another author, but here I go. I recently discovered the writings of Laird Barron. At last, something new and different. I ran through his work like lightning and thought I would not find anything that good for a while. Along comes Mercedes M. Yardley and her seductively titled novella, "Apocalyptic Montessa and Nuclear Lulu: A Tale of Atomic Love." I began reading and I was stunned. First of all, her writing is to die for, her style and use of prose is like no other I have read. It is seductive and compelling, hypnotic even.
As the tale began, I thought, "great, my favorite mythic theme, beauty and the beast." I actually cheered at Montessa's acceptance of her apparent fate, death at the whim of a serial killer. She baffles her abductor through her absence of abject terror and her refusal to beg for her life. Lulu, or Lu, as he is known at this point in the story, simply doesn't know what to make of this. So, Montessa = Beauty; Lu = Beast. Simple, right. I don't want to retell the whole story here. Through her extraordinary storytelling skills and her beautifully twisted psyche, Ms Yardley unwinds a story in which Lu,the Beast, brings out the Beast in Montessa and she brings our the Beauty in Lulu, as Montessa has now named him. That Yardley accomplishes this while telling the story of two serial killers is a literary feat the likes of which I have never before seen.
This is brilliant prose, extraordinary storytelling. Hate, revenge, fear, sorrow, regret, tragedy and triumph are all woven skillfully into this glorious novella. I admit, it is not for the faint of heart, nor for those who fear the darkness in their own souls. It is for anyone who loves superb writing with a taste for the unusual. Think H. Ellison, Robert Bloch, et al. Think about reading something the likes of which you have never read before. I can't wait to get caught up with her other short stories. Her first novel is coming. It can't get here soon enough.
Highest recommendation: don't miss this one!
    Absolutely astounding
Life isnât always cut-and-dry. Sometimes, the most terrible of circumstances can directly lead to the most wondrous acts of creation. A personal tragedy can spur an artist to craft their lifeâs seminal work. Addiction can result in the addict steering an otherwise ill-fated existence onto a path of hopefulness. Society can rally around a national catastrophe, bringing people together, opening up pathways to communication and goodwill. This is true even on a cosmic scale, when something as violent as the Big Bang leads to the creation of life, itself.
And sometimes, an abused woman and a serial killer can find love, because existence can be the darkest of jokes, whose punch-line is hidden beneath layer after layer of human frailty.

In a world no more than a whisper away from our own, the Islands of Grand Britannia have been reduced by the ancient Plague Wars to a land of deep forests and a handful of small cities, governed by a powerful totalitarian Authority, based in the central city of Londonborough. Chad Mundy, a young teacher is sent to the remote city of Petra Dumnoniorum, to replace a colleague believed to have committed suicide. It soon becomes evident that there are darker, more sinister secrets locked up in the claustrophobic world of the Academy.

Events rush toward a fateful confrontation between the totalitarian Authority and the insurgents, culminating at the Midsummer festival and coinciding with a storm that will ultimately lead to tragedy.

I gradually grew to enjoy this book. 3 1/2 stars, rounded up.
This book takes place in a future Grand Brittania after the Plague Wars have caused a worldwide collapse of civilization and dramatically reduced world population, while what little is known of what had happened is kept closely guarded, for the public's good, by the totalitarian Central Authority in Londonborough, which is concerned to protect GB from the expected Evropan invasion that has never comeâyet. The Historical Society does what it can in secret to find out and preserve what ancient knowledge it can, any way. The novel begins with a mysterious murder and coverup (It's SUICIDEâgot it? We know where your wife + kiddie live!) in the fortress-town school of Petra Dumnoniorum Academy, as the Way Things Are is gradually shown to the reader. There's quite a bit of hand-to-hand violence interspersed though out the book, along with some guns, and a bit of blackmail thrown in for good measure.
More than a third of the way in, no spoilers, but something happened that for a little while had me wondering what kind of book this was. It hadn't seemed to be fantasy up UNTIL this point, and it's not.
Although at first I found it hard to get into the book, partly because of the annoying PDF format provided, at some point I found myself drawn in, interested in the various characters, eager to learn more secrets. Another murder follows, cunningly blamed on the wrong people, to discredit them. Hidden knowledge must be unlocked. There's a clear split between the Christian Londonborough-based government who want knowledge controlled, and the outlying dissident heretical pagans who want to know as much as is possible about what REALLY happened before and during the Plague Wars. What exactly is the Daybreak project? (There's a tiny love interest, with a tiny triangle complete with crossed miscommunications, scarcely worth mentioning. If you like such stuff, it's thereâif not, it isn't large enough to detract from the whole.) The Epilogue, which is seemingly there to pull loose ends together, ends slightly abruptly.
I gradually grew to enjoy the book, and so will rate it at 3 1/2 stars, rounded up. I'm still not entirely sure why it has the title it doesâ

What made the experience of listening to Drawing Dead the most enjoyable?
    The final poker game.
What other book might you compare Drawing Dead to and why?
I'm going to skip this question for now. Nothing is coming immediately to mind.
Which character as performed by Alex Hyde-White was your favorite?
    Eddie Nelson, the main character.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
    Nope. But that's OK.
    Any additional comments?
The story is told using a few flashbacks to bring the reader up to date on how Eddie Nelson got to this deplorable state. A Brit, he and his girlfriend came to Las Vegas for a vacation. He returned home to nurse his blossoming addiction for on-line poker. That on-line addiction grew to playing in live tournaments. Soon, he was playing professionally, and living by himself. Fast forward to present day and Eddie has been on a losing streak for weeks now. Hes out of money, considering who he can call to wrangle a plane ticket home when a sketchy stranger buys him a beer. Raphael wants to stake him in a high-stakes game. If Eddie wins, he gives half his winnings to Raphael. If he loses, then Eddie has to do Raphael a favor and play in a private poker tournament.
This tale started off a little slow for me and I think that is because I dont play poker and some of the lingo was lost on me. There was a quick run down of game rules and terms at the beginning of the book, but such a list is hard to absorb in audio form. Anyway, the story does pick up with the flashbacks of Eddie spiraling into the poker addiction whirlpool. I really enjoyed watching Eddie go from a winning high to another high to another high and then the bum of a loss, and then another loss, and finally to the point where Raphael finds him.
And I guess I am free to talk about the Las Vegas vampire aspect since there is line about these poker vampires in the books description. The vampires dont show up until about half way through the book.

It's Christmastime for L.A.'s newest witch, but all Maxie wants to do is Bah Humbug her way through it. This will be her first Christmas without her parents and her friends have been called away. She thinks it's a blue, blue holiday until things get worse.
Katelyn, one of the Hotel DenMark maids, was just dumped by her fiancé on Christmas Eve. She's a sobbing mess and Maxie knows how it feels. After all, her fiancé broke up with her in a restaurant.
Maxie decides it might be time to meddle again. She's got a few spells up her sleeve to insure Katelyn gets her man back. After all, there's no point in both of them being miserable for Christmas.

    Very cute!
Maxie just wants to be happy at Christmas and the same for her friends. When a little magic doesn't turn out the way she planned, Maxie feels disappointed. But the man with the white beard and jolly laugh gives her a Christmas she'll never forget.
    Cute Story
The Maxie shorts are all very cute but I can't wait for a new Maxie book.
This short is about about family and friends at Christmas and realising that what you think is best is not always the case. A cute and happy story.
    It's Okay
Eh. Not good, not bad. A good fluff book to kill a few minutes time.I would not recommend it, but I don't hate it. Be sure to buy on sale though.
