Dayanand Saraswati’s Arduous Search for a Guru
The story of Dayanand Saraswati, one of India’s greatest philosophers and a social reformer, and his search for a Guru is quite interesting.
He became quite detached from the world at a very young age.
He wanted to experience self-realization, so one day he left home in search of a guru. The search was long and difficult.
One day, someone gave him an address and told him to visit this Guru and take initiation.
He went to the given address and knocked on the door.
A voice came from inside, "Who is it?"
But Dayanand Saraswati was silent.
Again the voice said, "Who is it?"
He remained silent again.
Then the Guru opened the door, came outside, and asked, "Who are you?"
Dayanand Saraswati’s reply surprised the Guru.
He asked some more questions and suggested a way for Dayanand Saraswati to find self-realization.
The way suggested by the Guru transformed the life of Swami Dayanand, and he experienced self-realization under his guidance.
