There are several ways to compare nutrient digestibility. Three common methods are with in vitro studies, ileal digestibility, and indicator amino acid oxidation analysis. In todayโs episode, I talk with Dr. Cara Cargo-Froom about her studies, which compare these analysis methods in order to determine how we can improve them and understand nutrient digestibility coefficients in an easier and cost-effective manner.
Dr. Cara Cargo-Froom is a Postdoctoral Fellow that works with Dr. Jennifer Ellis at the University of Guelph, in conjunction with Mad Barn. Her focus is on employingย in vitro digestion modeling to represent nutrient digestion, degradation, and fermentation of feed stuff fed to equines. Also, her Ph.D. focused on the comparison of methodologies used to assess protein quality, while simultaneously incorporating the processing of pulse ingredients, the usage of pulses as protein ingredients in swine feed, and the digestibility and metabolic availability of amino acids from those ingredients.
