🟦🟨 GUEST RESEARCHER PROFILE- DR. SHASHIKA BANDARA.

Dr. Shashika Bandara is a post-doctoral fellow at the Department of Global Public Health in the School of Population and Global Health at McGill University. His research and advocacy focus on global health policy and governance.

He co-leads McGill University’s research on policy exemplars addressing structural discrimination to improve health in collaboration with the Lancet Commission on Racism, Structural Discrimination and Global Health.

He is an academic editor of the PLOS Global Public Health journal. Shashika received his Ph.D. from McGill University and holds a masters in global health from Duke University. Dr. Shashika is formerly a policy associate at the Center for Policy Impact in Global Health at the Duke Global Health Institute. Dr. Shashika has worked in human rights policy advocacy in Sri Lanka and South Asia, with Law and Society Trust and in collaboration with Forum Asia.

He also has experience working in humanitarian settings with CARE International. His previous training includes molecular biology and has conducted cancer immunology research at Johns Hopkins University.

Mr. Yusuf Hassan Wada is a Pharmacist with a long-standing commitment to global health and leading partnership buildings that align with UHC & SDGs attainment. Presently, he serves as a Policy and Advocacy Officer, African Region with the Society for Family Health - coordinating SFH policy positions at regional, national, and sub-national levels on health systems strengthening initiatives.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy and a Master's in Public Health. He has additional trainings with the Lagos Business School, National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) and the University of Washington and has received an IAS Advocacy Fellowship in South Africa and Canada.

She currently serves as the Research and Publication Officer at Move Against Cancer Africa and a Research Fellow with Women in Global Health Nigeria.

Mrs. Ogechukwu contributed to Nigeria’s public health response through her role as a Laboratory Scientist at the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC). Ms. Nwadiuto Okwuniru Azugo is a public health parasitologist, researcher, and science communicator committed to advancing equitable access to health education and care in rural Nigerian communities. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Environmental Parasitology and Public Health at the University of Port Harcourt, focusing on urogenital and female genital schistosomiasis (FGS) among adolescent girls in underserved areas.

Her advocacy centers on reducing gender and educational disparities in disease prevention. She has provided health education for out-of-school children in Anambra State, empowering them with knowledge about schistosomiasis and hygiene practices. She also founded the first schistosomiasis health club at Christ the King Seminary School, Nnobi, where she leads school-based advocacy and behaviour-change campaigns on NTD prevention and genital health.

A fellow of Women in Global Health Nigeria and the Social Innovation in Health Initiative (SIHI), Nwadiuto combines scientific research with storytelling and community engagement to promote inclusion and health equity. When she’s not working, you can find her nose buried in a good book, researching Igbo traditional cosmology, or watching K-dramas.
