  • Games for Non-Gamers

Hello listeners! It’s Christmas Eve, which means many of you may find yourselves in the company of family or friends who aren’t avid hobby gamers. If you’re like us and can’t wait to convert everyone you know, we have a list of games you might consider starting with! Each of these games has a lot in common with  more commonly known games, such as poker, checkers, or rummy. Take a listen and see if any of them might appeal to the non-gamers in your life!

We also talk about some of the games we’ve been playing lately, including the super-fun Deep Sea Adventure and the two-player InBetween. We also talk about a game of recent favorite Whistle Stop.

Thank you as always to O Abnormal and Agata Poniatowski for the artwork and Strangelette for the music. • 2018 Middleweight Gift Guide

Hey listeners! We’re back with another holiday gift guide. This time, we’re looking at games that are moderately complex. These aren’t necessarily long, but they tend to have a fair number of mechanics or strategy to consider. Think Illimat or Palace of Mad King Ludwig. As always, let us know if you think we missed a good one!

As for What We’ve Been Playing, it’s all about the legacies. Lesley talks about her experiences with Charterstone and Greg has finally reached the end of his patience with Seafall. We also talk about Spirit Island, because of course we do.

Don’t forget to check out our Patreon for some exciting and exclusive backer rewards. We’ll have the first behind-the-scenes content coming to you this month!

  • Einstein

Hellooooo listeners! We hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving, or a great week if you’re outside the US. We sat down to review Einstein: His Amazing Life and Incomparable Science. A tile-laying game for 2-4 players, Einstein features unusually-shaped tiles that can be played in different configurations. Each player is attempting to create their own patterns while also competing for shared objectives. It’s a fun game with tons of interesting facts about Albert Einstein’s life and work.

Jakub’s sister Agata joins us to talk about What We’ve Been Playing. This week’s list includes the incredibly ridiculous Tofu Kingdom, Spirit Island (as always), and Agata’s personal favorite Kodama.

If you like the podcast, please consider supporting us on Patreon. Every dollar helps us make Dragon’s Demize the best possible podcast for our listeners. Backers can get access to additional monthly content as well as a chance to influence what we review. Head over and check it out today!

  • Rising Sun

Hey everyone! On this week’s episode of Dragon’s Demize, we’re reviewing the complex strategy (and stunning miniatures) of CMON’s Rising Sun. Rising Sun is one part territory control, one part action selection, and one part trying not to get BACKSTABBED BY YOUR ALLIES. Each player attempts to lead their clan to victory by marshalling their forces and finding clever combinations of upgrades. There are some unique and compelling mechanics that make this a step above your average territory control game. Check out the full review for all our thoughts!

We’re also extremely excited to announce the launch of the Dragon’s Demize Patreon! We love producing content and we want to make Dragon’s Demize everything we know it can be. • RPGs on Kickstarter

Ah Kickstarter. That wonderful place where creativity knows no bounds. We love to talk about the amazing board games that have come out of Kickstarter, but those aren’t the only projects out there. On this week’s episode, we’re highlighting crowdfunded tabletop RPGs. From reboots of old systems like 7th Sea and Scion to incredible new systems like Awaken and Phoenix Dawn Command, there’s a ton of great things to explore and discuss. Check out the podcast and join the discussion. What’s your favorite crowdfunded RPG?

*During this episode, we mistakenly refer to the shapeshifting, slice-of-life RPG “Turn” as “Line.” We apologize to Brie Sheldon and the rest of the Turn team.

We also talk about What We’ve Been Playing, including recaps from our recent Gloomhaven stream, Greg’s first game of Whistle Stop, and a rousing game of X-Wing.

Thank you as always to O Abnormal and Agata Poniatowski for the artwork and Strangelette for the music. • Spirit Island!

YES IT’S TIME! Dragon’s Demize is finally reviewing the much-discussed Spirit Island. Spirit Island is a “cooperative settler-destruction” game for 1-4 players. You take on the role of spirits who are trying to drive the invaders off their island. There’s tons of replayability, as the spirits, adversaries, power cards, and even the island itself can change with every game. We also discuss the currently available Branch and Claw expansion, and briefly mention the upcoming Jagged Earth Expansion. We’ve got so much to say about this one, so we hope you enjoy it!

We also find time to talk about what we’ve been playing! Lesley has a few LARPs that she attended, Jakub talks about The Pyramid’s Deadline and Sidereal Confluce, and Greg… Greg played Spirit Island.

Thank you as always to O Abnormal and Agata Poniatowski for the artwork and Strangelette for the music. If you enjoyed this episode and would like to hear more from Dragon’s Demize, you can find us on Facebook, Google+, and Discord. We’re also on Twitter and Instagram if that’s more your speed. Finally, you can find all of our streams, vlogs, and other video content on Youtube or catch us live every Wednesday on Twitch.

  • Pandemic Legacy: Season 1 vs. Season 2

IT’S BACK! Two games go head to head in this week’s Meeple vs. Meeple podcast! This time, it’s the titans of legacy: Pandemic Legacy Seasons One and Two. While each of these games has a lot to offer, our champions give no quarter. Greg and Lesley think that Season One’s superior storytelling and relationships between characters make it the better season. Jakub stands alone in defending Season Two’s innovative gameplay and intensity. Who will be the victor? Tune in to find out!

Thank you as always to O Abnormal and Agata Poniatowski for the artwork and Strangelette for the music. • Worldbuilding: It’s the Little Things

It’s another exciting RPG episode here on Dragon’s Demize. We’ve talked before about how much we love worldbuilding. Constructing massive cosmologies and dynastic politics can keep us entertained for hours. But what about the smaller stuff? What do the NPCs do when the players aren’t around? Who writes the music that the bard plays down at the local pub? On today’s episode, we’re talking about all the little details that can really bring an RPG setting to life.

What We’ve Been Playing is a bit of a misnomer this week, as we pine for the newly-announced Spirit Island expansion. But we do chat about a recent game of Terraforming Mars and our first ever game of Tiny Epic Zombies.
