To the skies! Or at least that’s where our birds will go when we review Wingspan, the bird watching game that has taken the board gaming world by storm. Winsgpan is a Euro-style game for one to five players, designed by Elizabeth Hargrave and published by Stonemaier Games. Players compete to earn the most points by playing valuable birds, laying the most eggs, and securing special objectives. Each bird played also increases the potency of one of your core actions, but you get fewer acctions to use each round. It’s a delicate balancing act, and one that we think really works. Check out the episode for our full review!
For what we’ve been playing, we’ve got a Faerunian twist on a classic with Betrayal at Baldur’s Gate, our first impressions of Keyforge, and the Frankenstein simulator Get Me a Fresh Brain.

We’re back with another interview! This time we have our friend Camilla Greer on to talk about the upcoming horror RPG zine The Demon Collective, Vol. 1. She and three other authors have each created spine-tingling adventures for the zine, which is currently funding on Kickstarter. Available in PDF or printed format, The Demon Collective, Vol. 1 will feature amazing black and white illustrations by Lauren Bryce and is designed to be accessible to GMs no matter what system you’re running. They soared past their goal, but you still have a chance to pledge until March 2. If you like what you hear on the podcast, be sure to check it out here!
We’ve got some delightfully unconventional games on What We’ve Been Playing this time, including The GLOG (Goblin Laws of Gaming), a tabletop RPG system designed to be fast and flexible. We’ve also got the adorable and asymmetrical Root, the new unique deck game Keyforge, and Rise of Moloch, a steampunky one-versus-many that features some of the 19th century’s best and brightest.
We want to give a big “thank you” to Nerd Dad with Running Shoes for featuring us on Instagram as one of his favorite podcasts. Check out his podcast for some well-rounded nerdery, fitness talk, and only the occasional dad joke.

Hail, listeners! We’re bound for Viking lands on this week’s Dragon’s Demize, to review the 2017 Kennerspiel des Jahres nominee Raiders of the North Sea. This worker placement game has you building up your supplies and crew before going out to raid the English countryside. Your raids will bring you plunder and victory points, but beware the Valkyries who will kill your crew. The Fields of Fame and Hall of Heroes each add some great mechanics as well, so of course we cover those.
We’re extremely excited to announce that we have been promoted to Affiliates on Twitch! Thank you so much to all of the people who join us for our livestreams on Wednesdays and Fridays. As usual, we also talk about the games we’ve been playing lately. Greg tried out the automa variant of our recent favorite Wingspan, and Jakub brings us an update from his ongoing game of Betrayal Legacy.

Hello listeners! We’ve got a special treat for you today. Game designer and friend of the podcast Dave Chalker is back to talk about the upcoming Sentinel Comics RPG! In particular, he walks us through the extremely robust character reation process. Using nothing but the system, we create three characters from the ground up. Backstories, powers, even our motiations and personalities. It’s really unique and we hope you enjoy this sneak preview!
If you’re interested in the Sentinel Comics RPG, you can check out their Kickstarter until February 22. There’s also a Gameplay Guide that will give you a taste of the system using some of the most beloved Sentinels characters. While you’re at it, head over to our Instagram to let us know your favorite superpower!
Lesley and Dave also share what they’ve been playing lately. Between the two of them it’s a respectable list: Spirit Island, Bruges, Terraforming Mars, Between Two Castles, and Aeon’s End: Legacy.

Welcome back to Dragon’s Demize, where we’re looking at another one of our favorites for an updated review. Last time we discussed the card-building wonder of Mystic Vale, we weren’t able to talk about the expansions because they didn’t exist! Today’s episode looks at each of the five expansions and examines how the themes and mechanics they’ve brought to the game have shaken things up. Check out the episode for a full review, including re-issued ratings, and then head over to this week’s Facebook post and tag a friend who loves deck builders!
Jakub also walks us through his first impressions of Betrayal Legacy on What We’ve Been Playing. It sounds like a fantastic game that not only solves some of the issues that plagued the original Betrayal, but also takes full advantage of the legacy style. I can’t wait to bring it to the Dragon’s Demize table.

Hello listeners! On this week’s episode of Dragon’s Demize, we’re reviewing the tabletop RPG Awaken. We’ve played Awaken on stream before, and both Greg and Jakub are big fans. In this dark fantasy RPG, players are members of the Vasalli, humans who have “awoken” the latent powers within themselves. These “gifts” give you the incredible ability to manipulate the world around you, but they come at a cost. If used too often, they can corrupt their wielder, rendering you paranoid or worse. Listen to the review for our full thoughts, and then give us a shoutout on Facebook or Twitter with which Order you think you would join if you were a Vasall!
If you enjoyed our review and are interested in learning more about Awaken, you can check out the Kickstarter page for their new sourcebook, “The Liborian Saga”. This book will focus specifically on the Liboria region, but there are opportunities to acquire the Core Rulebook as well!
Jakub also gives us a download from his trip to Podcon, and we talk about two new games. Unstable Unicorns is silly, fast-paced card game with an adorable theme, and Wingspan is an awesome new resource-management game from local designer Elizabeth Hargrave. We loved it, so be on the lookout for more Wingspan content in the near future.

Greeting listeners! On today’s episode of Dragon’s Demize, Greg and Jakub revisit one of our reviews from waaay back before Greg even joined the podcast. It’s Mysterium! In this cooperative deduction game, one player takes on the role of a ghost who can only communicate with the other players (mediums) via dreams. The other playeres must each identify a person, place, and object before everyone can guess the true identity of the ghost’s killer! Mysterium is definitely a people-pleaser, with its gorgeous but surreal clue cards and emphasis on team cohesion. Check out the review for our full thoughts, especially how the original European version compares to the American version.
The games we’ve been playing lately also get their weekly shout-out. We talk about The Pyramid’s Deadline, a tense puzzler from Oink Games, and a new (for us) COIN Series game, Fire in the Lake.

Hello listeners, and welcome to our newest segment! We’ve enlisted our local Strategy Guru, Will, to give you all a practical guide to How To Win. On the first installment, Will and Jakub discuss one of Will’s all-time favorites: Terraforming Mars. If you’ve ever wondered which corp to choose or how to assess cards during the drafting phase, look no further! Will takes us deep into factors such as point efficiency, phased gameplay, and when to make a run on those lucrative Awards and Milestones. Tune in so you can have a leg up in your next game! You can also find our full review of Terraforming Mars here.
If you enjoy hearing tips on How To Win, please let us know and we’ll be sure to bring Will back for more strategic goodness. Don’t forget to suggest games we could tackle!
The boys also talk about what they’ve been playing lately. Evolution: Climate and Tofu Kingdom are returning favorites, but there are a few new games today as well. Just One is a cooperative party game where players try to provide clues about a word. And Trellis is a gorgeous tile-laying game where players race to place their flowers in a garden.

Welcome back to Dragon’s Demize, everyone! For our first official review of 2019, we’re tackling Whistle Stop. This tile-laying, pickup-and-deliver train game is full of colorful charm. Players compete to earn the most points by exchanging resource cubes for stocks and points. Along the way, they’ll build their routes, purchase upgrades, and maybe even dig for gold! Whenever an individual locomotie is retired, that player earns a bonus, so make sure to get a many as you can to the finish line!
If you’re interested in learning more about how to play Whistle Stop, keep an eye on our Youtube channel for a new episode of Board Game Bistro coming out soon.
We also chat about what we’ve been playing. Greg had a chance to try out some new games with friends. The Champion of the Wild is a party-pleaser that he looks forward to playing again, and Catacombs is a dungeon-crawler mixed with a dexterity game.
