  • LOTS and Teotihuacan

This week Jakub and Greg talk about two games about building things! They preview LOTS and review Teotihuacan. LOTS is a fun, quick, dexterity game about building up a tower and trying to score the most points without knocking the tower over. There are some great mechanics that keep it interesting even if it is a light game. Teotihuacan is a game about building the temple in the ancient meso-american city. There are some really unique worker movement and advancement mechanics but tune in to hear our full review!

  • Least Favorite Game Mechanics

Do you have a board game mechanic that you just loathe? Does a game with that mechanic have to clear enormous hurdles for you to even consider playing it? If you answered “Yes” to these questions, have we got an episode for you! On this week’s Dragon’s Demize, Lesley, Jakub, Hunter, and Greg commiserate over their least favorite game mechanics. It’s a chance to air grievances and just generally have some fun. If you have a least favorite mechanic, join the conversation by letting us know on Facebook or Twitter!

We also do a quick run down of what we’ve been playing lately.

Dragon’s Demize’s coverage of Origins 2019 continues! While we of course had an amazing time trying out new games and seeing old friends, we also had a blast talking to some truly incredible people from within the gaming industry. This year was especially wonderful because it marked Hunter’s first ever interview, with the one and only Emmerson Matsuchi. If you haven’t already checked out our Jenga interviews on Youtube, you can listen here for some of our favorite moments!

  • Board Game Glossary – Other Games

Hello listeners, and welcome to the fourth installment of our Board Game Glossary! Today we’re talking about other games, games which don’t fit into the neat buckets we’ve created in the other Board Game Glossary episodes. There are many of these games so we focus on what makes some defined categories different and why we separated them. If you haven’t already listened to the other episodes in this series, you can check them out as well!

For What We’ve Been Playing, we discuss International Tabletop Day and the games we played there.

We were at Origins last weekend and have a bunch of cool interviews and other content so check that out at YouTube.com/dragonsdemize!

  • Ancient World

It’s been a minute since we’ve reviewed a Red Raven game, but the drought is over! Ancient World is the latest worker-placement, resource-managey goodness, and it plays 2-4. Players compete to collect banners which will earn them points at the end of the game. Banners can be found on Empire Cards which can be built, or on Titans which can be defeated by your armies. There’s an intereseting parallel gameplay, as the armies are mostly separate from your citizens. You can hear more about it, as well as our official ratings, in the episode so give it a listen!

As usual, we talk about What We’ve Been Playing, including some more Betrayal legacy for Lesley and Hunter, and a nifty little game called Planet for Jakub.

As we mentioned last week, we’ll be heading to Origins June 12-16! If you’re going to be there, hit us up. We’d love to hang out, and we’ll probably have t-shirts! And for something a little closer to home, don’t forget to buy your tickets to WashingCon, happening September 7-8. Tickets are still discounted, so get ’em now!

  • Board Game Glossary – Social Games

Hello listeners, and welcome to the third installment of our Board Game Glossary! Today we’re talking about social games, games which are all about heavy player interaction and usually best with large numbers. This is also the first time we break things out into subcategories. In this case, we’ve got Hidden Identity, Restricted Communication, and Party games. Give the episode a listen to see what we think are the essential elements of each of these types of social games. And if you haven’t already listened to the other episodes in this series, you can check them out as well!

For What We’ve Been Playing, we discuss the newest games from Red Raven: Ancient World, along with the familiar games Pyramid’s Deadline, Codenames, and Quiddler.

This is also the time when we announce we’re officially going to Origins! If you’re going to be there, hit us up. We’d love to hang out, and we’ll probably have t-shirts!
