  • A conversation with Just Call Me Willis

@mikewindyart can't remember how he started following @_traplanta_ but suffice it to say he's so glad he did. Thanks to a clumsy first attempt at an assignment(we've all had those, but most of us won't admit it) Willis leaned into photographing the communities he's known throughout his life as an Atlanta native and let's the rest of us in on what we won't see at the Trap Museum, which for him is authenticity and respect of and for the people in those communities. He reads in great length to get the right caption for each image and sometimes takes him many months until he feels like he gets it right. We talk about the strategies and skills he acquired in his 20 years serving in the US military and how they are serving him well in his own art career. PLEASE give this episode a listen and dive into Willis' work and read other interviews and articles @photobookmagazine @motherjonesmag @shoutoutatlantaofficial

  • Another conversation with Duck aka Darrel Green

This conversation with @mikewindyart and @swimmintilimpicked Darrel Green centers around a collection of their Thoughts Lately series of short films that they recently screened at SOHO House Nashville's Film Club. Duck's film practice ranges from being very mindful about strategies to letting things organically arrive and trusting their intuition. we talk about talking as writing and writing as talking and how Zora Neal Hurston is still ground central. I love the way Duck model's a way into spirituality, their comfort in their own creative skin, and community as sacred. We hope you give it a listen #drawingsouthpodcast #drawingsouth #mikewindypodcast #sittingduckmotions

@mikewindyart and @ah.lay met up on the Sunday of Big Ears Festival at the Emporium where her time.place. exhibit that she curated was on exhibit. It's an incredible group show made up of 15 artists that she was in some way connected to 10 years ago when she was finishing up her art degree at UT Knoxville. we talk about mentorship, her history in teaching art, curation, and how time as Lisa Donovan says "is a sneaky little bitch". • A Conversation with Leticia Bajuyo

@mikewindyart and @ lbajuyo met in December 2000 and then co-taught @gregg_gah 's 3-D design class for 6 weeks while he was on paternity leave in the Spring of 2001 at @apsuartdesign

It was so great to reconnect after all these years later. This was an accidental 25-year reunion! We talked about the flukes in our life, leaning into those lucky moments, and how they taught Leticia to always ask regardless of the situation. Her teaching practice and studio practice are both at incredible levels but that's no surprise to me. We hope you give this episode a listen and dive into Leticia's work if you haven't already.
