Drawing South

@mikewindyart made some tacos for @lisabubert Monday night and after a lovely dinner that had a nice long chat about writing, lore, mythology, integrated practices and a whole host of other things! We hope you give it a listen and please dive into Lisa's writing on Longreads or her website lisabubert.com

It's our Birthday! The Drawing South Podcast turns 100 episodes today and there is was only one conversation that was worthy of this special milestone! @mikewindyart sat down with @winwinmitch at their kitchen table and talked about being creative around each other for over 30 years! We hope you will give it a listen

@jolieepix exhibit "The Conflict" opens this Saturday December 6th @watkinscollege WAG gallery at the Packing Plant from 3-9pm. She and @mikewindyart had a chance meeting @arcadearts in February during his residency and they've both leaned into that luck of broadening their art ecosystem. This was a great conversation about photography, grief, addiction, and religion that we hope you give a listen to!

@mikewindyart and @lisabachmanjones sat down in her solo show @electricshedtn and talked teaching, being an artist who educates, how her job as a baker helped her become a teacher, curating cafe shows, being the only artist in a family, and learning the new language of sculpture. We hope you will give it a listen and dive into her practice on her Instagram page or in person the next time she is in a show.

@mikewindyart has known @kimradfordart for over twenty years—we met taking Painting 2 with the legendary Lisa Houha in the old Trahern Building at Austin Peay State University back in the late ’90s.

Since those days in Clarksville, Kim has literally painted her way into Nashville’s visual identity—becoming one of the city’s premiere mural artists. Her work has graced @grimeys walls for album campaigns for The Black Keys, Valerie June, Joni Mitchell, Billy Strings, Lilly Hiatt, Brandi Carlile, Allison Russell… and iconic local landmarks like Mitchell Deli and the famous Dolly mural @the5spotnashville

We talk about:
💥 Always hustling & betting on yourself
🎯 Why passion projects matter (especially early on)
🧩 Being a one-woman show
🤖 And wrestling with how & why to use AI as an artist in 2025

Proud to call her a friend, colleague, and inspiration all these years later.

@mikewindyart and @thejasonmoran had a great conversation about Jazz, Art, Teaching, and Skateboarding. If as Jason says The Gonz is Charlie Parker then who is @rodneymullen ? He talks about the joy and calling of teaching and playing with former students(is there such as thing as former) like @sullivanfortnerjr the night before!

We talk about his collaborations with Joan Jonas @broadcove and #adrianpiper and more. Whether you're an art nerd or a jazz nerd or a combination of both we hope you give it a listen and join us as warriors as creatives in this world that needs us all more than ever. #jasonmoran #drawingsouth #drawingsouthpodcast #mikewindypodcast
