It is easy to get distracted and lose motivation when working from home during a pandemic.

You have all those delicious snacks surrounding you and you just can't wait to get your hands on them.

It is really easy to turn on the tv, mute your laptop volume, and eat Cheetos all day while watching Netflix.

However, if you do this you are running the risk of losing productivity or worse getting in trouble with your employer.

Here are the top 10 ways to stay motivated when you are working from home!

1 ) Wake up early

It is very tempting to wake up late when you work from home because you don't have a boss hounding you and you don't have to commute. Sleep is great but it is important to wake up on time and early to be productive.

I have made this mistake so many times where I stay up too late and end up waking up late and getting in trouble with my manager.

I fixed this problem by setting my alarm a little earlier each day to wake up earlier and be on time.

Waking up earlier allows you to allow your body and mind to warm up quicker and be more productive.

2 ) Put on pants

Haha, it sounds so silly but if you don't put on pants you are likely to not be focused and take your work seriously.

I'm not saying that you need to wear a 3 piece suit to sit on your couch with your laptop, but if you are without a decent shirt and pants all day you will not feel serious and won't be taken seriously when video conferencing.

Dressing up even a little takes more work so that will keep you focused.

3 ) Don't work in bed! - Create an office space

I have done this so many times...

I wake up...yawn...grab my laptop from under my bed...

and that's it, I'm ready!

There are several issues with working on your bed or where you relax.

If you get stressed from work where you normally sleep or relax you will never be able to escape that area. Once you "leave work" you will be in the same place which will keep your stress around.

I suggest setting up a desk area that is organized and set up for you to work. Complete your work there and then when you are done you can return to your happy places!
