‘These are some highlights we’ve chosen from a 5+hour playlist we put together for Candida’s 50th birthday party. A playlist mostly comprised of Candida’s favorite and most meaningful songs, with the odd extra suggestion from me, Emma. Candida gave me the list to edit down and order the songs in a way we hoped would suit the changing mood of a big birthday party (i.e. anticipating when the booze and the dancing would kick in!) Some of the most difficult-to-please music aficionados offered up their compliments, and the last couple of hours were a gloriously communal sweaty mess on the dance floor. No, do not adjust your eyesets, it’s not the Ronnettes or the Crystals, it’s the Royalettes. The Rosspunk mentioned to me recently that we haven’t dropped a lot of Phil Spector! Well being big Spector fans, I felt I needed to (sort of?) balance the books a bit. Between 1989 & 95 we used to go to a small club in London’s Soho called the Hardclub- run by (& also the main DJ) Mr Hard. London’s original Electronic/Industrial club, specializing in a mix of the best Electronic/Industrial and Underground Techno –  Regularly featuring live’ bands like Sheep on Drugs, Hardcorps and Borghesia. It would also not be surprising to bump into  other bands like NIN, Nitzer Ebb, Kraftwerk, D.M, Liabach, or the Revolting Cocks.

We recently tracked Mr Hard down an asked him if he’d like to do  a mix/playlist for DTB. We’re really pleased he agreed. An this is what he came bac with- a lovely random mix of some of the things he used to play at the club as well as a couple of his more laid back faves………

The 27 Club is list of musicians that died aged 27. The list includes, Jimi Hendrix, Brian Jones, Jim Morison, Kurt Cobain, Robert Johnson…………

Some superstitious people, who are very familiar with the phenomenon, bring up the subject of white lighters when discussing this club.  Apparently, Kurt Cobain, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix all had a white lighter in their possession when their bodies were found. The lesson to be learnt here is, if you are a musician, don’t carry a white lighter!
