Curtains up! This week we are joined by Matt Billups. After graduating from the Brit School, Matt quickly found himself playing in the band for X-Factor winner Joe McElderry which then led on to the touring show of Joseph. Since then he’s been a regular in the theatre world touring the UK, Europe and depping in the West End. We chat about his career, what it’s like to play in the theatre, the gear required (lots of percussion), prepping for the West End, coping with long tours, a chance meeting with Dennis Chambers, the dreaded ‘never again’ list and dealing with imposter syndrome. Enjoy!

Hear about our busy weekend as we went to Young Pine’s gig, George played at Icebreaker and Ben did some session drumming in the studio and went to a surprise 40th birthday party. There’s also snare chat; George switching to Remo and Ben wants an aluminium snare (add it to the shopping list), broken cymbals and a listener has sent something into the Drum Dumpster (shhhh). Enjoy!

It’s just the two of us and we can make it if we try. We’re talking favourite months, the Ladyboys of Brighton, an easy gig for George and managing anxiety. Plus George has got himself a new job and is moving in with his partner. He’s growing up fast! Enjoy!

We’re back and joining us this week is Liam James who is the drummer for Young Pine. Fresh after sorting his kit out for a headline show, we chat about Young Pine and their new single ‘Cold’, what it’s like being pushed in the studio (by Ben), his attitude to progress, starting drums and playing weaknesses. After the drum chat was out of the way, we got onto the big topics; keeping the studio tuck shop in business, favourite delivery company (it’s a wildcard choice), McDonald’s and how Liam put his foot in it with the studio neighbours and their van. Enjoy!

We’re very pleased to welcome Daphne Koskeridou onto the show. Originally from Greece, Daphne moved to Brighton aged 18 to pursue her dreams of becoming a drummer. After studying at BIMM she has achieved a lot with both her original band CLT DRP, her covers band 80s HiFi and as a session player including a sold out show at the O2 Forum in London with Martin Rossiter. Endorsements from Natal and Code Head Drums have quickly followed and with a new CLT DRP album out this year things are only looking up. We also chat about her kit set up, singing, a quick drive to Romania and the challenges that come about from being female in the drumming world. Enjoy!

Welcome to Mum and Mummer! A podcast about Mums, Mumming and Mummers. It’s a kind of New Years special and after teasing it for a while we have our Mums on the podcast! Say hello to Ann and Sandra. We asked them what it was like when we said we wanted to play drums from noise in the house, lifts to gigs, waiting in car parks, watching us play and sending us off to university. We also find out about their musical (and dancing) chops and find out who their favourite delivery companies are along with a great tale involving cheese and the police. Happy New Year and enjoy!
